I believe that this performance set a standard for many students like myself, upon which they built their own interpretations of this magnificent piece. I marvel at how great is Pierri's undersanding of this piece's rhythmics, I have never heard another player capture its spirit so faithfully. It is an absolute masterpiece of a performance

As almost always, maestro Pierri takes HUGE liberties with the tempo here. Some will always hate that, but I love it. I remember seeing him in concert playing Albeniz "Sevillia" and it became unrecognizable midway through. It was still great.
This is 'Chorinho' or simply 'Choro', a Brazilian musical style that combines European classical music with Brazilian popular street music from the 19th century (samba e batucada). The great reference in the creation of the style was Chiquinha Gonzaga, pianist and first woman to conduct an orchestra in Brazil.
I have to agree. One of the best, if not THE best interpretation of this piece. According to my taste, at least. I love the way he does it, rhythm, dynamics, and also the little freedoms he takes by embellishing certain phrases.

This is wonderful playing the tone of the guitar was out of this world and the interpretation was perfect. The last few bars the tempo speeded up which gave a different twist to what is normally expected and worked a treat. GGSNI

Enjoying learning this piece (on Steel and nylon guitars). Thankfully I just got through learning Gran Jota (by Tárrega) ..so, I now have +5 defence from awkward phrasing and techniques

If it's too hard to play, you take one measure at a time and play it over and over until you have it down, then you go to measure 2. It's amazing how the brain and fingers will assimilate the information little by little. But if you never do it, then guess what?
2nd bar there's wrong note being played, he plays A note insted of B note, and repeats the same mistake every time when reaching that part, strange.... On the other hand, he is a very good player with good technique and overall performance is good, strange how could he have missed that note. Might have not learnt it right.. else, that should be counted as his version/interpetation of the piece....

He's the best I've found so far, but I feel like it's a bit too much of a classical music interpretation (focused on strict crescendos and traditional building, across phrases), which is inappropriate for a dramatic Latin, especially Portuguese - the land of Fado - song. Trifles too much and loses the emotional tone/current among the changing phrases.
