Maybe it was because “matchmaking” would pit elite players against newbies if no one was playing or bad luck. Then they changed the matchmaking system in games to reflect skill levels and match opponents with their perceived equals. If youre a freshly new players and destroy the compeition, you get a huge boost into the algorithm matchmaking so you dont get stuck at the bottom for too long ruining everyones fun lol
