Something you have to respect about FOB is they have so much variety. Something that made rock artists like Queen and The Beatles is they didn’t settle for just one genre, they played all kinds of different sounds.
Young and Menace is a EDM heavy track, The Last of the Real Ones are more rocky tracks, Heaven’s Gate is a heavy soul track, Bishop’s Knife Trick is a deeper, slow rock song, Wilson and Hold Me Tight or Don’t are pop deliveries. Meanwhile most other artists make music that all sounds very similar to each other.
They’ve been slowly been expanding on their music since they worked on Infinity on High back in 2007.
IKR. FOB keeps it interesting. If they didn't change their sounds from time to time I'd be bored of them.
The difference between Queen. & FOB was Queen pulled off those genres effortlessly. FOB while I appreciate the attempt at genre hopping, sadly those other songs don't hold up as well, plus they come off as tired and try hard for FOB. I love this band too and I like Y&M but this and soul are the only genres this band can actually make seem effortless.

Every time I watch/hear this I always end up crying - the song has such a deep meaning and is honestly art - the way the song brings out the feelings of anxiety and being manic, for those who don’t understand what it’s like to feel like that the song itself at first listen can make you feel very uncomfortable, especially on the hook “young and a menace”. The video obviously shows you the deeper meaning behind the song - for someone who’s gone through the second hand abuse of toxic parents, every time I see him throw the cup it makes me jump. It's not that weird that people don't like this sound. Saying they've changed for the worse is definitely true to a lot of people. I'd just like everyone to not be assholes about it. Okay, I get the song message and everything. But I don't think anyone's talking about how... amazing the video is. Feeling lost and scared, not being able to do anything when things are getting tough. I can honestly relate.
And the ending just makes me want to cry, I'm sensitive I know. But a once perfectly happy family just shattered with fights and violence. Just seeing that girl cry just really brings back horrible memories. I'm in the same situation, sadly. But this is not my sob story.
I just find the song and video to be powerful. I really like their style and direction.

The issue with assigning bands and artists with a specific genre is that people expect them to stick to that genre and get upset when they change things up. If people don't like this song, that's fine, it's their opinion, but to claim that it's "not fall out boy" or to get annoyed that their music is different to how it used to be while throwing around harsh insults is so childish and honestly ridiculous. Artists make music for themselves as much as their audience. If fob were making the same music over and over again there would be no point and I guarantee they wouldn't be as happy and as successful as they currently are. People shouldn't be so closed-minded.
