Johnny "Ringo" McDonagh & Guido Plueschke 4 Reels - Bodhran & Banjo - Irish Folk

When I heard the CD "ballroom" by De Dannan for the first time in my folk-discovery phase, it almost blew me away. This record and the instruments on it never let me go. On the one hand the bouzouki, which is the reason why I first learned mandolin and then bouzouki, because I thought it was a mandolin that was being played. And on the other hand the bodhrán, whose sound fascinated me. On this CD Johnny McDonagh plays the bodhrán. He and the music of De Dannan had a strong influence on me and unleashed in me the desire to play the Irish frame drum as well. In addition to the bodhrán, I have always turned to stringed instruments, so that from the initial mandolin playing also the learning of the Irish tenor banjo was obvious. And that brings us to today's video.
In 2011 I met my great bodhrán idol Johnny McDonagh, who is also called Johnny "Ringo" McDonagh, in reference to the Beatles drummer Ringo Star. Since the bodhrán position was already taken for this video, I therefore play the banjo. And what can I say, it was fun!
Dear Johnny, thank you so much for being a great inspiration all these years. You have influenced me a lot with your playing!
Als ich in meiner Folk-Findungs-Phase das erste Mal die CD „Ballroom“ von De Dannan gehört habe, hat es mich fast umgehauen. Diese Platte und die Instrumente darauf haben mich nicht mehr losgelassen. Zum einen die Bouzouki, die der Grund ist warum ich zuerst Mandoline gelernt habe und danach Bouzouki, denn ich dachte es ist eine Mandoline die gespielt wird. Und zum anderen die Bodhrán, deren Sound mich fasziniert hat. Auf dieser CD spielt Johnny McDonagh die Bodhrán. Er und die Musik von De Dannan haben mich stark geprägt und bei mir den Wunsch entfesselt, auch die irische Rahmentrommel zu spielen. Neben der Bodhrán habe ich mich aber auch immer wieder den Saiteninstrumenten zugewendet, so dass aus dem anfänglichen Mandolinen-Spiel auch das Erlernen des irish Tenor Banjos nahe lag. Und schon sind wir bei dem heutigen Video.
2011 traf ich mein großes Bodhrán-Idol Johnny McDonagh, der auch Johnny „Ringo“ McDonagh, in Anlehnung an den Beatles Drummer Ringo Star, genannt wird. Da die Position der Bodhrán bereits für dieses Video vergeben war, spiele ich daher das Banjo. Und was soll ich sagen, es hat Spaß gemacht!
Lieber Johnny, vielen Dank für die große Inspiration in all den Jahren. Du hast mich mit Deinem Spiel sehr geprägt!
