👨💻 IN THIS DEVLOG 👨💻
For a long time, I've only used a simple camera follow script for tracking the player. In this game, the ragdolls can be flung around in all kinds of ways AND you have the ability to control the camera zoom, which made this simple solution not quite enough. I ended up combining two different ideas: track a position that smoothly follows behind the player and add on top of it an offset value to frame the scene. Secondary additions include auto-zooming to keep the ground in view or when the player has a high velocity, as well as the use of raycasts to locate the ground.
I also created a basic title screen, and improved the connection forming of circular shaped objects.
Should I change the game's name? A good name describes the game well, is pronounceable, memorable, and searchable. I don't think the current name "Siege Engineer" checks all of these boxes. "Siege Sandbox" won the twitter poll, and it visually looks cool, but it's kind of awkward to say too. I'm probably overthinking this lol. "Siege Physics" is growing on me. Leave a vote in the poll in the video!

Siege Engineer is a 2D physics-based puzzle game I'm developing with Unity. You are tasked with building siege engines to transport the ragdoll foot soldier across enemy territory. Fed up with his siege engine genius being ignored due to his low status in feudal society, our protagonist has decided to single-handedly take over kingdoms and stuff.
To play, drag objects from an inventory into the scene and connect them together. Press play to watch chaos ensue. Create catapults, trebuchets, vehicles, and much more!

You should still have a few levels about destroying enemy castles, they shouldn’t have been completely taken out.
The camera zooming at the beginning was funky :D I really like your explanation/animations for the new camera tracking! As for the name, I see why you want to change it. Out of the new ones, I like Siege Physics the best, although from your google docs list I like Sir Flingalot :) I'm excited to test the game as well!

@@SamHogan Sir flingalot is more memey/humoristic, rather than a name that fits the game in my opinion, so if I had to choose, I would definitely pick Siege Physics.

Thanks a lot dude! I usually like the simplest solution for things, but the old camera tracker might have affected gameplay. And good point about the alliteration, probably why siege sandbox was so popular. I just wish it rolled of the tongue better!

@@MB2Studios Yep! The game has destructible stone walls (although I need to partially reimplement them), which you can see in some earlier devlogs

I love the game! And the devlogs! One request (assuming this is still in development) - can this game have a sandbox mode for just messing around? The level editor is pretty close, but I think a sandbox would just be amazing. (also, I would definitely be trying to build mechanical computers if there was a sandbox - and probably even without that!)

I'm not sure if you still work on this project, but it would be cool to make a special high score mode where you try to launch the guy as far as possible
you should call it "old timey physics game where you make stuff to achieve an objective"
I have an idea what you could add
1. each ragdoll has random hat or clothing
2.have somekind of survival mode where you need to protect your guy from incoming sieges (catapults, trebuchets, etc.)
3.make it so you can turn gore on or off
4.add it so you could control the character (the idea might be too hard)
5. Add it so you can make your character hold weapons and use them (maybe even make your own for battle levels)
Maybe a button that links up all unlinked joints? I saw you were clicking on each rock pivot separately... I imagine those are unlinked joints. Very cool looking project though!
I think there should be a more where you (as the player) can create (and maybe even download or share your own levels by allowing editing of terrain and machines and allowing access to all players and allowing use of all pieces.
he should make a sandbox where you can make anything with any material.
As a Scratcher, I can say that, I used the 2d to make the 3d.
Make other characters that will have their own code, for example:
Cavalry - destroys wood with lances, but is more susceptible to crushing etc.
Pawn - Runs across the battlefield and destroys wood after 10 hits
Mobile - shoot their bows at stone and wood
wood - 5 shots
stone - 10 shots
And the last one is the enemy
the enemy kills the main soldier with 5 blows. Hits every 3 seconds. You can kill him just like breaking the main soldier.

Will there be a sandbox mode?
I have an idea you could add. And that is you could bring back breakable walls but they act and work like the wood walls just they have a pressure limit we're the player has to find a way to the flag with a persific weight limit of the walls
