As a ex-captain from World of Warship, I can say armor scheme in German battleship is nut. In WoWs' game mechanism, sloped armor belt behind main armor belt caused AP shells no way to touch citadel. It take players times to find out how to counter effectively: aim the hull that above main armor belt and below weather deck, and let AP deals 1/3 damages to target's hit point. For cruisers and destroyers, just use HE shell to hit super structure to cause fire. Although that game didn't had mechanism for USN's super heavy shell, the early release of Graf Zeppelin and its AP bomb on Ju 87 successes to "one-click delete" by dropping AP bombs into the deck, which was thick enough to active the bomb's fuse.
That's pretty much the goal in Warthunder only gun calibre and Warhead type matter a whole lot more. In WT you need AP to smash the armor plates, then HE to cause catastrophic flooding or crew damage and fire. SAP is for targets you know you can Penn easily and delivers more TNT for less pen HE spam works if the shell is large enough. it can take a long tome
drives me crazy seeing scharns, hoods, alaskas, or krons being used as stationary or slow bunkers, ESPECIALLY the scharn since it’s basically invulnerable at the moment
I hate seeing this thing, our team shelled it from all directions for half a hour and the thing just wouldn't die. Never seen a Scharnhorst detonate even once. Yet it's always the one who detonates me.
bruh i just spend 200 AP rounds from Kongo shooting side on from 4 km at afk Scharnhorst player adn it would just not explode and not go below 14% crew without setting it on fire its broken at its purest form
Was on a multiple Island map and didn't spot this guy till too late. Was holding my own until I could not manovure anymore and he got close enough for a Torp salvo, that finished me off lol
There are 3 main Armor Schemes for ships of this era. DISTRIBUTED ARMOR: Armor is applied to areas of the ship according to it's importance. midships has high armor, bow and stern have less armor. ALL OR NOTHING: the most important areas receive maximum armor and less important areas receive none - USA started this trend. TURTLEBACK: Similar to distributed armor but behind the main armor belt is a second ANGLED armor belt designed to absorb or deflect shots that make it through the main protection. the secondary plate is usually much thinner but a high angle makes it super effective in close range fights is prone to penetration in long range fights with plunging shells. examples in War Thunder of this design are the Admiral Hipper and Scharnhorst
Grinding the mission score events in naval is sheer pain if you go past 6.0 because of the near-permanent 7.0 games and Scharnhorst spam T_T The crazy thing is the other number of ships at 7.0 that are solely there as a legal fiction so Gaijin can use placeholder as "top-tier" ships. For instance, I don't have the Renown but fighting it just feels... wrong- 6 x 15" with armor that'll wither to 8" guns must be rough for UK captains thinking another 7.0 ship is going to really bolster the lineup.
Ah, the infamous Scharnhorst spam! It's like a recurring nightmare, isn't it? Just when you think you've escaped, it comes back to haunt you. But fear not, brave captain, for with each battle you fight, you become stronger and more skilled. Soon, you'll conquer the seas!
Scharnhorst is my go to ship to exterminate naval bots, rlly love this ship, can take a lot of punishment but from my experience the Japanese 356mm AP is the weakness of Scharnie.. had mine detonated multiple times by IJN BB greetings from iNAVY o7o7
Ngl they’re really missing a lot of English stuff like the skua and the scorpion that can add a lot to the kinda bland tree that they have and they’re quite easy vehicles to balance
Well using that prefix may trigger some people... Yes, the Battleship Scharnhorst is defo one of the better ships & heh it's got some great HAA hah hah HA 11" guns with HE-DF shells makes certain high leveliers rethink their lifes. G'day, It's wishful thinking that the Armoured Cruisers of the same name were added for they would make great lower BR additions to Germany. OOF BB-1's strike again hah hah.
Yeah it's crazy how prefixes like KMS and IJN have proliferated, even though they are merely creations of post-war historians. But I'm sure Ty is using them knowingly and not out of ignorance.
This time the KMS was a cheeky wordplay on what it feels like to face one 🤣 But you are correct, IJN is the biggest offender IMO and that has become the standard now. 🫡
@CmdrTyrael It baffles me and others that it hasn't been removed yet, Similar that JDS prefixes ain't added on four destroyer escorts (Isuzu, Chikugo, Akebono, Ikazuchi classes) I've got a forum post discussing this & have had several chats on reddit about it as well.
@@lordwintertown8284 Honestly at this point it’s just better to use a custom localization mod. There’s so many other wrong names, the ship prefixes being only a small part of it. I use the IFN1 re-name mod and it feeds my perfectionistic needs quite nicely.
@@kkang2828 Good day KKang, While I agree a localization mod is indeed the way to go, It's regrettable to mention as a console player such dreams are impossible for me. If I ever must for whatever reason convert to a computer I'll look into the mod you've mentioned just now.
Germany kind of was fluffing their numbers a bit. I'm assuming that's why the Brits thought it was a battlecruiser. When in reality she weighed 10,000 tonnes more. 🤣
@@CmdrTyrael honestly the whole concept of battlecruiser Vs battleship distinction really confused me because there's so many examples of them being classed as battlecruisers but basically being a battleship like the hood, the Scharnhorst could be classed as a CB on the basis of lacking as much firepower as other BBs but something like the hood seems like a BB and not a CB

given it’s armor layout i wouldn’t be surprised if the schaenhorst stays meta forever
I heard it had a on par/better armor layout than the Bismarck. We’ll see in game eventually.
@@alexbannykh6603 It has more belt armor but it has less deck armor, so it's a little bit of a mix bag.
Well imagine if something like the prince of wales comes with big 14inch guns and a very nice belt I tjink
The prefix KMS is apt here because that's how it makes you feel when fighting it.
Lol that's what I was aiming for 🤣

HE spam works if the shell is large enough. it can take a long tome
So far the only thing i have seen that able to sink it effectively is depth charges
I have experienced such a death 🤣🤣🏴☠️
You’d think the Scharnie was a dreadnaught considering whenever I’m matched with them on my team they never get over 40kph 🤣
Bloody thing is a battering ram! Should always be used as such 🤣☠️

Though rare, I can say that scharnhorst will detonate now. Unfortunately, it's a pixel hunt to find the weak spot.
You’ll see 5-6in AA-VT shells detonate the turrets all the time, spam firing at them works a lot of the time.

Probably the best armor ship in game
Without a doubt. It's armor you can rely on!
I would still like to have the Iowas in game I know we have a Baby Iowa in Alaska but I want the real big guns.

You say 26,000 tons but the in game stat cars shows 37,000 tons, so whats up with that?
