When you can get your hands on VirtualDJ 8 Pro, this controller is *_so_* much more powerful! It's because it has only few hardcoded functions like the pad modes or the jog wheel color. Using vdjscript (which is awesome btw) i have created a complex 1500 lines code mapping for my Mixtrack Quad which makes it better than my friends DDJ-SR, because that has a lot of hardcoded functions -> less customization. As soon as i have a good camera i will make a video about it and show how to create complex vdjscripts so can get the most of any controller. Right now my controller can: - choose effects, switch them, and control their second knob - switch to modes where you can control the filter and the key with the jogwheel and control the filter resonance as well - make loops, half or double them, make them in slip_mode, have them "while holding" only or with on/off trigger - switch to modes where you can move the in or out point or the entire loop with the jogwheel live (while loop) - make the pitch fade to 0 with 3 different speeds (normal click is slow, shift + click is fast and double click is instant) - change filter, key and gain on the fly using the EQ knobs -> change the eq while holding shift - change to 5 other different modes which are: = cue mode: set up to 8 cues/hotcues and change the way they behave (stutter, hold, ...) using the effect knobs at the top = sampler/drumpad mode: use the 8 full colored pads for samples, you can also change the individual volumes of the samples and their playback mode (stutter, unmute, ...) using the knobs = BPM suite: see the beatbar visualised on the top 4 pads, so you can see the beat and the sequence. you can half or double the BPM if VDJ didnt get it right, you can set the first beat for some quick correction, you can move the beatgrid with or without snap using the knobs and you can tap one pad to set a new BPM; this is perfect for getting the right BPM and sequence on any track easily and quickly, so you can fade and loop without problems = fun mode: this mode is mostly for visualizing the music in the most awesome ways the top pads blink to the beat and the volume in different colours, the bottom row shows a colored VU meter from left to right and there are 6 different jogwheel visualization modes you can choose from using a knob while the jogwheel still works as normally. you can also choose another deck to visualize so you can see one deck on both sides. on the pads you can quickly access features of the automix like on or off, shuffle, next track, and much more, so its visualization and playlist editor at the same time! = settings mode (in progress): change the jogwheel sensitivity, disable or enable spin out for spinning forwards and backwards, change if vdj should emulate the time it needs a vinyl deck to start, stop or scratch and much more! also: - using shift and moving the crossfader you can make a perfect high-pass to high-pass transition into the right or left deck without complicated changing of filters and such. - the browsing knob is improved, so holding shift will speed up the knob so its 5 times faster while scrolling and instead of having to shift-press every time for a folder you can now just press the knob and wait a second for the folder to extend (which is far more easier IMO). there is even more minor things but thats what i got right now, i can share everything of it if you want. so the numark mixtrack quad is more powerful than you could ever imagine.
TheAustinsMusic yes, you do. there is no vdj8 limited edition as far as i know but you can buy a controller-license for about 50$/€ for the mixtrack quad. if you don't want to spend the money you can still do decent mixing with the limited edition though. but not all that crazy vdjscript stuff :/ if you have the 300$ for the full license or a *cough* different source for a full working vdj8 it's ofcourse way more handy than vdj7
I know this reply is old but I've just came across it.. I STILL use this controller 😂👍& would love to see a video of all this, but I'm going to play about with the things you talk about... I'm on VDJ 2020 now..🤪
Hi Phil, Thanks for your video review, although I found it a bit confusing. I eventually decided to go for the MT Quad and I'm very glad I did; here's why: As an entry level (consumer) controller, the MT Quad is meant for beginners, who're starting from ground zero. There's a lot to be learnt, hence, ease of use is extremely important, to allow for a smooth learning curve. I found the colour coding offered by MT Quad (and Virtual DJ 8) to be very user-friendly. After using the device for a couple of hours, without any special effort at all, I can easily tell what's the active function of the pads by colour (e.g. green = cue points, red = samples, etc), how many cue points and loops are defined in the songs, which deck is active on either side, etc, etc. Regarding the software, I installed both VirtualDJ 8 and Serato DJ and I must say that in the latter I felt like lost, while in the former I felt like home. Never used either of these before. Don't take me wrong, here, I'm not saying one is better than another (as a general statement), but I personally found VDJ much easier to pick up and use. That means I can focus more on learning how to mix rather than try to find out what the software does. Having said that, once I learnt the basics, I did download VDJ's manual and read it from cover to cover! One of the most powerful features allows adding "Actions" and executing small scripts of commands anywhere in a song, to control the flow of music and the configuration of the MT Quad. While learning VDJ 8 with MT Quad, I also discovered a few bugs and reported them in the community forum. I was very impressed by VDJ staff responding within hours with workarounds, and VDJ getting auto-updated with bug fixes within 24hours.
Our Mixtrack Quad was build for professional. And we think you didn't understand the Mixtrack Quad. We recomand the Numark Orbit to you. The Orbit is perfect for people who wan't to understand what mixing is. After the orbit you could try the IDJ Live even though we think it will be very difficult for you. Phil you don't have to press the button under the filter it's only to turn it off. If you turn the knob it works. For all the others www.numark.com/product/mixtrack-quad at this page on the right beneath downloads you find a mapping for traktor pro 2.5.6
great video, but i really think that numark should step this up a little more by having inputs for the other channels c-d or 3-4 so this could be used as a mixer too and then having a peak meter on, i think this add on would make it much better ok the price may be higher but then you also get a decent mixer with effects to whats your opinion thanks for the great videos
Hi Phil, I am a beginner DJ. Just wondering for the filter knob on this controller, do you know where on Serato DJ if there is a little icon where I can how much I am turning the knob left and right (like the other 3 FX pads). I can't seem to find it unless there isn't one at all. Thanks for your time and vids.
Hi there, was wondering if you could help me. I am looking for a controller that doesn't break the bank and was looking at this Mixtrack quad. I have also looked at the ergo and others. What would you suggest out of these two? And any others that you think are better than those? Thanks!
Hey Phil, I need your advice on this one, I own an original Mixtrack Pro, and use it with Traktor and my own complex map that can do everything I need and even more.. The thing is (since I'm a mapping geek) I don't really care if it's 4-deck controller, I just see it as a great potential for mapping, as it has more knobs and more LED colors, so depending on the indicators those pads can do a lot of things, and I do mean A LOT. So would you recommend me buying this to replace original MP? Thanks
Hi Phil, Me and my girlfriend planing to start Djing and are now looking for entry-level gear. Is this a good controller to use if we want do Dj at homepartys? Is there any way to plug this controller in to a PA-system? Thanks =)
I'm actually a little disappointed by the Quad - At one point I was fairly interested in this controller. I'm currently using the X1 MKII (loving it) as I already had a F1 and plan on getting the Z1 this month but I like buying bits of fairly inexpensive kit just to mess about with. Virtual DJ is possibly holding the controller back but the functions seem limited? If was recommend anything I'd say go for something with Traktor included as you know it will keep you entertained longer then VDJ.

VirtualDJ is a good software, but the effects are way better in Traktor, even more after the Flux Mode macro implementation. Maybe VirtualDJ 8 will be better in this aspect.
Do i need special speakers for this controller? Cuase i have pretty good ones but they have a cable that can be connected to ipod/computer/iphone/mp3 and stuff. If i connect the dj controller and speakers to my macbook, will i be able to play play the music?
It's pretty good, here's our full review: www.digitaldjtips.com/2013/09/review-video-numark-mixtrack-quad-dj-controller/ You might look into other Numark controllers like the Pro 3 or their newest one the Mixtrack Platinum
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. The software they include with this baby really sucks, even the Pro version of Virtual DJ (if you buy it) is pretty bad, but the mapping for Traktor is excelent and better in my view. You lose the Slip Mode but I believe you can do those things increasing your skills with practice. Great controller!

Numark is not the best dj company out there, however... I myself only play on the Numark NS7... I got in on a killer deal... The guy wanted 200 bucks AND IT HAD AN ODYSSEY CASE! - A DJ THAT USES "beat match" (😂😅) IS NO DJ WHATSOEVER... A relative of mine claims to be this grand mix master.. When he has the software do the mixing for him then he sounds good...he came over a few yrs ago with his USB STICK (WITH MP3s) - the nerve of this guy... Guys... Don't ever play MP3s or anything that has been compressed... 1st and foremost i only dj my own music... Period... And it's always in a wav format, no exceptions... Anyways.. The NS7 gives the Uaer the option to automática kill "Best mstch"... Lol... Here comes mix master man... It was awful guys... If you're going to be a DJ then be a DJ... mix strictly by ear only... You know how silly a popular dj looks when he has beat match on.. Ridiculous... Anyways.. The NS7 which u still have even though I went out and got the NS7 3... this is the real deal.. The only other controller that can come closer is the new one by serrato... I don't know the model name.. Still any NS7 allows one to mix by ear, you're dealing with a direct drive work horse... The weight alone let's you know you're playing on real turntables, if it's not you're thing then you can actually turn them off and then use it like a regular controller (how boring is that?) anyways... Mix with your ears and not with the best match feature... Have a great day...
Right now my controller can:
- choose effects, switch them, and control their second knob
- switch to modes where you can control the filter and the key with the jogwheel and control the filter resonance as well
- make loops, half or double them, make them in slip_mode, have them "while holding" only or with on/off trigger
- switch to modes where you can move the in or out point or the entire loop with the jogwheel live (while loop)
- make the pitch fade to 0 with 3 different speeds (normal click is slow, shift + click is fast and double click is instant)
- change filter, key and gain on the fly using the EQ knobs -> change the eq while holding shift
- change to 5 other different modes which are:
= cue mode: set up to 8 cues/hotcues and change the way they behave (stutter, hold, ...) using the effect knobs at the top
= sampler/drumpad mode: use the 8 full colored pads for samples, you can also change the individual volumes of the samples and their playback mode (stutter, unmute, ...) using the knobs
= BPM suite: see the beatbar visualised on the top 4 pads, so you can see the beat and the sequence. you can half or double the BPM if VDJ didnt get it right, you can set the first beat for some quick correction, you can move the beatgrid with or without snap using the knobs and you can tap one pad to set a new BPM; this is perfect for getting the right BPM and sequence on any track easily and quickly, so you can fade and loop without problems
= fun mode: this mode is mostly for visualizing the music in the most awesome ways
the top pads blink to the beat and the volume in different colours, the bottom row shows a colored VU meter from left to right and there are 6 different jogwheel visualization modes you can choose from using a knob while the jogwheel still works as normally. you can also choose another deck to visualize so you can see one deck on both sides.
on the pads you can quickly access features of the automix like on or off, shuffle, next track, and much more, so its visualization and playlist editor at the same time!
= settings mode (in progress):
change the jogwheel sensitivity, disable or enable spin out for spinning forwards and backwards, change if vdj should emulate the time it needs a vinyl deck to start, stop or scratch and much more!
also:
- using shift and moving the crossfader you can make a perfect high-pass to high-pass transition into the right or left deck without complicated changing of filters and such.

Not sure Sara! I'm sorry you're having trouble - I would recommend getting help direct from the company - here's a link to a page where we list all the main forums and support sites: www.digitaldjtips.com/3rd-party-support/ Good luck!

Mixtrack quad, good build and not many problems with tons of features

Have a great day...
mtp2 is the way for 50£ 60£ cheaper
Nice wont be buyin the quad
Does it work with traktor 2?
