Will be interesting to see whether there's any differences in using each of these mics with the updated transmitter.

    Thank you for testing all these mics Stewart! I don't even own these DJI mics but I know how beneficial it can be for the owners. Imagine the frustration if someone had bought a Rode Lav thinking it was a high quality mic and it was completely useless to them. Just got mine with the latest firmware, and our first recording session was ruined with the interference from the Rode Lav mics (usually 0 interference with their wireless Go counterparts). It doesn't happen if you don't take the receiver out of the box and go directly into the transmitter but that solution is not ideal. Considering returning the DJI now :(

    Stewart, PotatoJet [I think] reported that when using the DJI Mic into an iPhone it is MIXED MONO ONLY. Is that true? That would suck. I think this would be much better with iPhone than the Rode Wireless Go II, but [with the Rode SC15 Lightning USB Type-C to Lightning Accessory Cable , the RWG2 IS full stereo into an iPhone. Can you tell us how the DJI Mic records into iPhone? Mono only [like Potato Jet says] ? Or full stereo? DJI email replied MONO only and a DJI support email said the same. BUT the Rode Wireless Go with Rode SC15 does STEREO perfectly. Doesn’t that give the RWG a great advanced? Despite the obvious fact it doesn’t connect as simply? Sooooo....I purchased the Power DeWIse dual mic kit based on this video and I'm happy to say the mics sound great paired with the DJI mic kit. HOWEVER....and let me know if anyone else has this issue...When I got the kit, I was surprised to see the use of magnets along with the mic clips. But I thought it might be a flexible solution to mic'ing people. The PROBLEM is that ALL of the magnets in my kit repel each other.....so it's useless to attach the mic unit to the actual clip. I have to do this weird clipping to the cable thing to actually make it work properly. Has anyone else experienced this and/ or had resolved by the company ?

    Stewart, you say that the source of interference is the DJI receiver because the interference is only present when it is turned on. Whilst this is likely, it is not necessarily so. Let me try and explain why. If the communication between the transmitter and receiver is a duplex link, it is possible that the transmitter does not start transmitting until it ‘hears’ that the receiver is turned on. If the transmitter detects that the receiver is turned on, the transmitter starts to transmit and causes the interference. So when the receiver is turned off, the transmitter detects this and stops transmitting. So, in this scenario, the interference could be coming from the transmitter and not the receiver. This would require a duplex link between the transmitter and receiver. If the link is only a simplex link, then yes, the source of interference is more likely to be the transmitter. If it’s a digital communication link between the transmitter and receiver, then a duplex link is quite likely. I hope this makes sense!!
    Observationally, you also stated that if you increase the distance between the receiver and transmitter, the interference does NOT go away. This strongly suggests that the interference is not originating from the receiver because if it was, the inverse square law tells us that the interference should decrease with distance. You also stated that the interference stays the same as you increase the distance between the receiver and transmitter. This is because while you were doing that test, the distance between the transmitter and microphone remained constant and hence the interference. In other words all of this is consistent with the transmitter, and not the receiver, being the cause of interference!! Hope all of this makes sense!!

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  2 года назад

      Useful feedback thank you! Makes sense as it's the transmitter that has to transmit the RF signal (up to 250m in the case of DJI's stated range) so that's likely to make it the source of the interference, albeit it's the switching on of the receiver that triggers the issue. Cheers!

      Thank you! No, the Rode doesn't suffer from lav interference. We tested all 8 mics again and even when the DJI receiver and transmitter were switched on right next the Rode transmitter and receiver we couldn't get interference. If these results are the same for everyone then it's a big win for the Rode if you don't want to have to worry about lav interference.

    What I was asking myself: Is it necessary to connect the DJI receiver with a device like Phone/Camera/Notebook or is it optional? I know it's actually the main perk, but when I am thinking of using my gimbal connecting the reciever with the phone would (maybe) cause some issues with the gimbals weight distribution. So: Can I record without connecting it? Thanks for any answer!

    Great video. I wish I would have watched it and your other video describing how the sennheiser m2 mics with locking mechanism do not work with the DJI Wireless Mic set before my first shoot with them. We had to use the DJI kit without external mics.
    (****UPDATE**** I did experience intermittent buzzing every so often with the RØDE Lavalier Go Mics. It wasn't super loud and had the same frequency all the time so I'm hoping I can remove it in post. I think the cable is so thin, it is unshielded and the mic is mean for a local recorder, not a wireless one. I will try one of your recommendations for next time. Unfortunately for this shoot, I'll have to stick to these as nothing is in stores now. Bummer) I did go to a local store and bought what they had (the RØDE - Lavalier GO) as I have the second day of shooting tomorrow. I did quick tests and didn't get the interference you were talking about. This is in USA, so perhaps they use a different frequency that doesn't cause the buzzing you experienced. I'll let you know if tomorrow I find otherwise. Again, thanks for the information. ***Read Update Above***

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  2 года назад +4

      No, not really. The internal mic on the transmitter is really high quality and gives a nice rich sound. This is what we are using in our RUclips videos now. The lav mics all have subtle differences if you really get into it but the main difference is the application. The setup we are using works fine because I'm sitting at a desk and don't mind having the mini tripod and transmitter in the shot. But if you want to conceal it or walk about outside, the a lav mic will give you more options. Sound-wise, most of these lavs sound similar to the DJI internal mic. The exception is probably the Shure MVL which has less bass and mids.

    I know this is counter-intuitive BUT would it help using a ground loop isolator with hose LAVs that suffer?

    To go from these TRRS jacks to a 1/4 input, can I just use a standard 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter or do I need something special? Or do i need to stack TRRS to TRS then to the 3.5 to 1/4 lol?

    My BOYA BY-M1 has a big noise floor and doesn't capture properly the sound from couple of cm away from my mouth, I can't put it on my shirt or anything because the mic will not capture the voice.

    I like that you cranked the gain up for some of them. Really hoping this system shows up before my shoot at the end of January. I'm excited about the features and apparent quality of this dji mic. Reviews on the Shure indicate that the cord is pretty flimsy. Does that seem accurate in your observations?

    Anyone have any tips on how to use this for musicians with an iPhone? Not being able to hear / playback audio from the phone while the mic is plugged in is a huge obstacle that makes it almost useless when trying to record music with it on the phone :( I keep having to unplug it, to listen back to my takes and I can’t sing and hear background music at the same time. Anyone have a solution?

    I didn't realize the road Mike had 32 bit float point! 😊 I love DJI products they're usually super well made. I liked how the receivers were so small. I'm regretting it a tiny bit though. 😊

    Stewart! Thanks for this video!! Picked up 4 Shure MVL's because of this video. I have two receivers connected to a Tascam Portacapture X8 for some delicious 32-bit float action.
    Curious, I notice the gain is much quieter with the Shure lav than with the onboard mic on the DJI Mic. Would you recommend I turn up the gain on the transmitter, the receiver, the recorder, or a combination of two or all three?

    • @andrewmason8691
      @andrewmason8691 Год назад

      My Shure MVL just arrived today. I also use it with the Tascam X8. I noticed the same with my Rode+ lav.I did notice the noise floor was also quieter. I am now curious what an even higher quality lab would sound like with the DJI Mic, especially with the noise that comes from the wire rubbing. Do you experience with any laws of higher quality than the Shure MVL?

  • @wonderweddingsjapan
    @wonderweddingsjapan 3 месяца назад

    In my testing I also had the interference sound from the Rode Lavalier Go but the reason for it was that it comes standard as a trrs, you need to buy a trrs to trs adapter and then the interference goes away.
