Thanks again! Well, I don't have to ask me: First, this video here is part of a instructional video, where Christian shows first aikiken and then kenjutsu. Including basics as kamae, suburi, e.g., Second: After WWII it was decided, to show Aikido openly, to tell the world about the true virtues of the Japanese people and traditions. Even and espacially the martial arts. I know Christian as a very humble person, who don't need to advertise or boast.
Morihiro Saito Sensei studied more then 20 years with the founder (he is the only one), and transmission of traditionnal knowledge is made from Sensei to student... If effectively, Morihiro has summarized and arranged kumitachi and kumuijo to make accessible the technical combos, "san-ju-ichi no kata" IS the founder kata... It's the founder too who created the "mokuroku", grade which combines tai-jutsu and bukiwaza So, who knows realy the heart of Aikido ? Saito Sensei, I think...
sen sen no sen is a important of aikido. It is a popular misunderstanding an aikidoka would wait for the opponent to attack first and than react. Why do you think it would be two diametrically opposed combat philosophies? You stay on the line. If possible you strike first. You don't avoid the attack. But cut just throughout the opponents sword an body. That's the aikido we practice. So from whom did you learn the combat philosophiy of aikido? Especially the one of Tissier?
So, we find part of the kumijo and jo suburi in the 31 no kata, because Saito Sensei, for explaination, made the way : suburi to kumijo, kumijo to 31 no kata to finally explain O' Sensei kata and not the reverse. It's the same problematic in taijutsu, you never begin with kinonagare (which is normally teached from 3 dan), you learn with kihon first... Saito Sensei has adapted Japanese teaching to occidentals because they learn with mind before body reverse of the japanese.
A question from a non Aikido-ka. What stance is Shihan Tissier using for most of the black and white (front on) footage? I study Karate; it seems to be a combination of Niko hachiji dachi and seisan dachi [not sure if this will mean anything to those outside of karate]. The dynamics of his stance seem very interesting to me - what is the focus of this position? Any info would be appreciated. Domo Arigato Gozaimasu.
I perfectly know Tissier style ! It's Aikikai style, doshu style, NOT the founder Morihei Ueshiba Style ! Only Morihiro Saito Sensei had transmitted the real Aikido to his uchi-deshi !
I agree with you about Saito Sensei : a man didn't follow a genius like O' Sensei if he didn't have great qualities for that. A little precision, Mokuroku of Iwama Ryu are NOT these of Morihiro Saito Sensei (who gave just a few Mokuroku to about twelve of his uchi-deshi). The real Mokuroku are marked with the personnal hanko of O' Sensei and ONLY Morihiro Saito Sensei was allowed to do that.
Hm, there is no aikido tai sabaki" in the kenjutsu Tissier shows? Where can I see ksr? I am not allowed to visit the german shibu because I'm Aikidoka. And there are no videos on the Internet, are they? Is there no openly part of the curriculum like in tsksr? We don't stay on the line always and ever. Thats true. I think, itt was the other way round: Tissier infected his aikido with the kenjutsu he learnt because it was so different form what was shown in Aikido places.
It's the same problematic in taijutsu, you never begin with kinonagare (which is normally teached from 3 dan, dixit Saito Sensei himself), you learn with kihon first... Saito Sensei has adapted Japanese teaching to occidentals, because they learn with mind before body reverse of the japanese... ;-] The great O' Sensei was in his own research, Saito Sensei was in teaching and broadcast of Aikido...
Sorry to say this but Tissier would be WAY out of his league against Kuroda sensei. You just can't compare their skills like that when it comes to kenjutsu...
Obviously, you don't know what a mokuroku is : it's NOT a Iwama Ryu (which is the school of Itohiro Saito) grade !!! Morihiro Saito Sensei himself showed to the Doshu the grade that the founder delivered to him with Taijutsu, Aikiken and Aikijo. The "san-ju-ichi no kata" is really O'Sensei kata (you can see part of this on some video) as Saito Morihiro Sensei said to his uchi-deshi : Let do the Founder kata, O'Sensei style. Learn a little bit about that before talking. !-]
Thanks again!

It is coming from kashima SHIN ryu.
Not kashima shinto ryu.

1 Kesa Giri (袈裟 斬) - corte diagonal (para baixo)
2 Ashi Barai Uki Bune (足 払 浮 舟) - varredura de perna (parar a espada do oponente)
3 Kiri Wari (斬 割) - divisor de corte
4 Wari Zuki (割 突) - empuxo de divisão (no plexo solar)
5 Kurai Tachi (位 太 刀) - espada ocupante (parar o ataque do oponente)
I'm sure he is a training manic and I agree his Aikido is extremely nice.
Be well, mate
