Hello! We just ordered this kit for my son. The kit now comes with nylon strings and 6 regular sized picks. I ordered through your link because your unbiased opinion helped us make the decision to purchase this guitar. Thank you, you did an excellent review, much appreciated! ~Angel
Thanks for not being like these other pretentious music RUclipsrs, that bought an Amazon guitar just to shit on and make fun of it. Sure this isn't the Holy Grail of guitars, but it's perfect for a family who's maybe strapped for cash, or for a kid who you know will probably just play it twice and never touch it again.
Thanks for the support. I completely agree, not everyone has the same budget or the desire to sink in lots of money on a hobby.
I used to own 3 music stores and sold 100's of cheap guitars like this one. You are 100% correct in everything you said. I also just sent your links from your description to my wife, so she could order the guitar and nylon strings for my 15-year-old. He already has a nice electric guitar but wants cheap acoustic to play around with.
Thank you for the support. I wonder why the manufacturer doesn't just put nylon strings on them to fix the issue of snapped necks.
If you own 3 music stores, why don't you give him a somewhat decent guitar? lol
@@ugot1try I used to own.
@@HeWentRogue you have a point I agree 100 percent and love ur videos
Thanks for being Honest, Humble and Very Talented. These 3 qualities rarely stay together in this troublesome century. World would be a better place with more people like you. Thanks again Brother.
Dude, your review made me buy this guitar! and a set of nylons. Thanks!
Thanks for the review, I’m 16 and wanted to start getting into acoustics. Doesn’t seem to bad to me!
Thanks for this video !!! I just started playing and this is my first one . Only can afford until next year ill be able to upgrade
Dude, you're a good instructor. Keep it up.
I got the same one for $15 at a thrift store. For that cheap it works fine, but I wouldn't pay more than that. Survived a restring and hasn't exploded yet! Plus a negative radius fretboard, making it incredibly hard to play if you're a beginner
Thanks for your honest review. Other reviewers called the guitar junk and didn't explain about the nylon strings.
Yes but with Nylon Strings it's now playable again
I really like how you give an honest review on the base guitar and then give solutions on how to fix it for those who already have it, it's really well done
Played around with this guitar while stuck in Jamaica visiting family a couple summers ago. Belonged to my little cousin. As someone who's played guitar for over fifteen years, I'd say it's not terrible for the money. In my case, the action was low. Definitely strictly for beginners though. Wouldn't gig with it, but not bad for campfire sessions. Personally, I would recommend spending a bit more on a Rogue acoustic, Jasmine s35, a Glarry, a Donner acoustic, or for a bit more a Yamaha FG/FS800, but if you specifically want a classical or folk guitar for cheap, it's still pretty playable and doable.
Love the Freddie pic in the background 😍
SUPER HELPFUL VIDEO!!!
Just got this with your links. I've had Yamahas and Fenders, etc. I've played for 50 years, read music, play passably well at what I do know. I got rid of my guitars when I moved overseas. Got a uke, but they're not the same. I just want one to bang around on when the mood strikes, and I super appreciate your review. I think this fits the bill.
Thank you for adding the nylon strings! I saw the “other” reviews you mentioned, but nobody ever mentioned just changing the strings out. I’m happy to see that made a noticeable difference.
Sounds pretty good, I had an small acoustic that had metal strings when I was a kid it was a name brand, and it sounded funny wiht the steel strings lol.
great review
I appreciate that batteries not included reference it blew my mind nice review and playing as well
okay just ordered mine, coming next week hopefully i'll sound as good as you oh my god lol
You could use the Thomastik Infeld CF128 Flatwound Strings for a Slick Jazz Feel or if you want a Steel String sound, you could use KR116 Rope Core Flatwound Classical Guitar Strings
I started out with this guitar its decent if you switch the strings I just a got a 1982 fender strat a couple months ago😌
What I learnt years ago about the type of string to fit on an acoustic guitar is that if the guitar has a metal tail piece that bends over the far end, it can take steel strings but you may choose to use nylon instead; if the strings can only be attached to something very near to the bridge (as shown in this guitar), only nylon strings are allowed. And that has to do with the tension placed on the tailpiece. I don't know if that principle has changed since!
But with a little modification, this one sounds pretty good.
It's actually far more complicated than this (and always has been);
The pin bridge was invented for gut (which was replaced by nylon) strings, and was the de-facto standard from the ~1800s (first modern-ish guitars) to today. Around the 1890s, steel strings began to become popular. Around the same time, guitars with a tailpiece began to appear - but guitars were very lightly made, nearly all of them, and even the most well made models could barely cope with steel strings, even models with a tailpiece. Around ~1900, there were three major developments were made: the mail-order guitars from Sears and similar companies would become built heavier (as there were many cases of complains of them collapsing due to steel strings to the point an exception had to be made to the warranty) to accommodate the new, heavier steels. The other major development was the arch-top guitar: Gibson pioneered this, and they would offer models with both pin bridges and tailpeices, which could be ordered for steel OR gut strings, the difference being the thickness of the bracing. The final was hawaiian music; the use of slide-guitar necessitated steels. The average guitar became heavier and heavier built, with tailpieces being common for lower-end guitars or those with 12 strings (or particularly light bracing) to preserve their integrity with heavy steels. Those with pin-bridges for both steel and gut strings were still common as well; but not interchangeable as gut strings could hardly drive the thick tops of steel string guitars. The Spanish style guitar had adopted the string-thru bridge it has now, but American makers would use it for their steel-string models as well instead of a tailpiece in some capacity from the 30s until the 1970s. Martin finally switched over to steel fairly exclusively in the late 20s, and the rest is history.
@@SkipPlaysStrings Thank you for your detailed and insightful reply.
Great review! Nice and refreshing to see someone give a full measure of an instrument rather than just focusing on the negatives. Yeah, it's a cheap guitar but even cheap guitars can be playable as you showed. And I wondered myself about the tuners on it looking classical, thought it odd it would be shipped with steel strings. You confirmed my suspicions and as the guitar by Zeny is currently at $29.99, I'm tempted to buy it and nylons for a classical guitar to practice with, lol.
14:29 But I like to find the positive in things so I could salvage this Guitar by replacing the stock Steel strings w/ Nylon strings.
You could save the Spare Set of Steel Strings for your other Steel String Acoustic Guitars so they'll be used.
Ball End Nylon Strings would help w/ faster restringing. If you want a Steel String sound use Thomastik KF110 Strings
Bruh I’m fd I thought this would be good so I ordered it and now I’m seeing these videos 😭
Edit: the guitar was actually pretty good 😂 it ain’t so bad so far I’ve broken one string and easily replaced the string
it's not that bad tho :]
Same bro
Anonymous TV same bro I am so mad
Lightingale X Nightingal ok I Guess I will keep it
Me too bro
I believe that the Frets are actually Bar Frets like on Old Martin Guitars so defiantly a Throwback to the past
Action was so high I took out the bridge. Hope it'll stay in tune
Good job. 🌻
Got mine from Walmart it’s great and the tuner came with a battery 👌🏾
Same but I can’t figure out how to read it to tune it do re no style cause if it’s that way it’s gonna be easy for me to play any songs
I have five best choice guitars I also have a fender acoustic guitar and a Yamaha acoustic guitar and I find myself going back and plan my best choice guitars from time to time for the money they sound great
Thanks awesome review also I have that knife too lol
So it makes a great Nylon Acoustic Guitar complete with a Strap to help with keeping it in a playing position. The Big Red Pick could actually be used for playing Gypsy Jazz as done by the great Django Reinhardt.
Are those normal tension strings or high tension I have the same one but don’t know which ones to order
9:55 That is what happened to mine.
I died when you blew into the tuner 😆
It's most likely nothing more than most of their guitars use steel strings, so it's just easier to order one kind of string and slap it on all their guitars, instead of having to place a separate order for nylon strings. These days, even for a beginner, you're better off just picking up a cheap Rogue or Mitchell guitar. Even better, you can pick up a Harley Benton guitar from Thomann. You have to order it from Germany, but it's so worth it. They have copies of so many big-name acoustic and electric guitars. And for the money, you get a hell a lot of bang for your buck. I bought an acoustic Harley Benton $61 and that's including shipping. I wasn't expecting much, but when I received it I was blown away! I still have that guitar and I have gone on to purchase for more Electrics. And I've never spent more than $300 for any one of those guitars, even though they're on the same level as your middle to high quality guitars.
Anyway, I gotta say that most guitar channels are guitar snobs who wouldn't even show an inexpensive guitar let alone make a whole review for one. That's really damn cool. Thanks for that.
I just bought this guitar a while ago. Is this guitar smaller than a full size guitar? Will a set of ball end nylon strings work with this guitar? I bought this guitar to replace my 14 year old full size first act guitar that has a broken peg. Luckiave a full size yamaha acoustic gthat's in god shape. Just needed something smaller than a 41 inch guitar. I just want to know if this guitar is smaller. I know that kids can play this guitar al. As for me as an adult, just needed something smaller especially when I travel places with this instrument! Can't wait to get it in a few days!
Mine has buttons on the side and volume setting I put a battery in it not sure what that does probably for show but it's the same guitar but what does that feature do?
Thanks for the review. If I place the nylon strings instead of the ones it comes with. Will the bridge become loose?
I can only speak from my experience but so far the bridge has been intact and I believe that it will stay on.
He Went Rogue how about now?
so im gonna get this guitar so i can learn to play it, is it ok if i don’t change the strings?
This reminds me of the Musician's Friend Rogue beginner steel string. But the Rogue is better constructed, with an adjustable truss rod, and non slotted headstock. I bought one several years ago for $40, and it's a pretty good, and playable, bottom of the barrel guitar, in the tradition of old Stellas, Harmonys, Kays, etc. One unusual feature is that it has a flat fingerboard like a classical, but makes it well suited for slide playing. They're about 000/classical sized and have reasonable volume and sound for blues fingerpicking. The first one I bought even had scalloped x bracing! They're weird and cheap, and have character. Probably better than Amazon's offering overall for not much more money.
The reviews have gone up. I bought mine yesterday and should be here Friday.
@niya it's OK. Not bad, but I will go to my local guitar shop and get it tuned and new strings
I'm looking at getting this guitar. Would it be best to order a set of nylon strings with it? They come in different tensions. I assume that the light tension strings would be better. If what I am reading is correct, it will also reduce the volume too. Is that true?
I suggest getting a set of these: amzn.to/2R3Xg6S - As for tension, just stick with the normal tension until you are ready to start searching for the tone you like and yes there will be a volume/tone difference between light, normal, and hard.
what was that rock you played at the end? it sounded great.
Master of Puppets - Metallica
Just thought of learning guitar. Ordered a cheap one. I know I'm not getting a quality guitar. If I enjoy learning, I'm gonna buy a real guitar for real money. If it collects dust, my wife won't shoot me.
Love your balanced approach man. Fingers crossed I stick to this.
I just bought it... P.s. love the Freddie art lol.
Nylon Strings are also great for Jazz, & Earl Klugh is known for that.
A quick saddle adjustment would fix that sour note.
So then is it ok to try learn how play for now ?
Honestly this is my first guitar....
Is it good for beginners?
@@carlb258 yes it every good 👍🏻
Is that a picture of Freddie Mercury in the background
also sold under brand name third avenue
I just wanna learn how to play guitar.. So I might buy something cheap like this
Did you end up ordering one?
@@HeWentRogue uh no I ended up getting the Jasmine s35 😂 u should do a review on that one it's really good
Im now scared since i don't know if i can spare more money to buy the strings with this guitar. I want to learn but i also want this to be a guitar i use for a while
Thinking about saving money and buying me a cheaper one to practice on then if I want it to sound better I can upgrade lol
I bought this guitar as a beginner so I can soupe it up. Gonna put a good bridge on it. New tuners. Then put steel strings if I can make it better
There's no sense is souping these up. For the cost of the materials you can order a steel string guitar that is by far higher quality. It's not just the bridge and neck, the braces on the top won't support the tension and it will pull it in all different directions
I kinda disagree, learning to tune by ear helps because then you will recognize when your out of tune much easier. The neck being warped is a huge negative for a beginner. Too much relief causes the action to be too high, and messes with the intonation and will be impossible to tune, all things that will absolutely discourage a new player from even trying to learn. Straps around headstock also puts unnecessary stress on the glue joints. Won't matter on this tho cause it's not gonna last long enough for it to
Just ordered this guitar, wanted something to play Around with and get familiar with. Hope it works out....
Did you changed out the strings? I hope it works out. Keep us updated on your experience
i just bought one and its acoustic/electric for 40$. im excited. haha.
He Went Rogue Good thing these Guitars now come w/ the proper strings. They originally came w/ steel strings in the 1st place because I think they've made them a bit stronger & improved them over the years. I actually figured out that Thomastik KF110s might work too & the Flatwound design will save the frets from scratches.
My play auntie and friend brought me one of these
How are you liking is so far?
how wide is the nut on this one? thx
I’ve played guitar for 3 years for Christmas I asked for my first electric one
I got that kind of guitar for Christmas this year
@Julissa Chavoya My dad bought me one. On eBay I will tell you how it goes. I get mine to tomorrow.
@@guitarjourney6191 how did it go
@@defeatedcoot It is not bad. Each one is different. It is a great beginner guitar. If you are a kid you might have problems with it as it is 38inches. Mine creaks a little up the sides when I tune it sometimes. But, it has a great sound. If you get the guitar get some extra strings. I broke a string within a week.
I got mine last year for Christmas
That's not a guitar pic...looks more like a Dorito😋
I bought this and am trying to learn the guitar, so if it’s bad I can never learn? Also another question if I change the strings will it be a little better?
Sameur Sayed I’m pretty sure these type of guitars need nylon strings, and with steel strings it might break the neck or the bridge
Nylon strings will make it easier to push the strings down which may be helpful to you.
@@dareyesqueda yeah that's a classical guitar so steel strings will have far more tension than the neck and bridge are designed for
Does any one know if a ashthorpe acoustic/electric guitar is worth upgrading
How tall are you? I need to know for real life comparison with the guitar, I'm 6 foot
Its no real problem to lower the action a bit.
I'm wanting to play guitar - For a daily hobby and passion actually - but I can't find any low price high quality guitars. Any suggestions on what I can do? Shipping would be preferred. Also great video. 😁
Depends, what country do you live in, electric or acoustic? and what is your budget?
He Went Rogue I live in the U.S., I'm looking for Acoustic as of now, and yeah Ik I probably sound crazy, but it's only because of budget issues, I'm looking into around less than $100.
There isn't any acoustic guitar I'd recommend for $100 or less yet. Electric ones are easier to find at that price point. You might want to try Orangewood guitars, the low end model is $125 but I've never played one yet so I'm going off of what others said
@@darklink2332 www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/lyons-classroom-guitar?rNtt=classroom%20guitar&index=1
I like the guitar dude
I'm going to be getting more for review. Want me to get you one? Just let me know electric or acoustic and what color.
He Went Rogue you should review the Yamaha student acoustic- id like to know if it’s any good
Classical or regular acoustic?
He Went Rogue regular !
@@HeWentRogue yo wtf i want one🥺
I bought this drunk cuz I need an acoustic for my class and now I must live with my mistakes
What strings do you recommend for acoustic guitar ?
For this specific guitar or acoustic in general? For this guitar amzn.to/2R3Xg6S since it requires classical strings. But the steel strings I suggest for learning are amzn.to/3sh4a8d because they are extra light you sacrifice volume but they will be easier to press down (and makes bar chords easier)
Was it worth the buy ??
I know this video is a year old now, but I just wanted to say it seems like they're now selling these with nylon strings instead at least according to their product description.
I just ordered one I'm nervous 😂
Where's the review of the CRESCENT electric guitar?
The guitar itself to me does look very thin and kinda plastic looking to me BUT it honestly doesn’t look like the WORST guitar ever to me. Tbh i’m kinda impressed but i watch other people unbox these guitars and they say that the strings don’t hold, they go loose after you either play it or after you just tuned it
I just bought this guitar it arrives tommorow I'm excited
Nice, I hope you like it. Did you get strings along with it?
bruh
@@HeWentRogue I'm sorry yes I did but the pick was not that big so that's good
Not all people rich(some country still got below $200/month)... They don't have money but still want to buying learn and playing...i think this guitar good enough for them.. Buy this first after that save money..next time you can buy better guitar
(sorry for my bad English)
Does this work to play corridos Tumbados
KR116 Flatwounds would work on this thing
Got mine for christmas, it sounds good but all reviews online said its bad but i dont got $300 for a nice guitar so shell do for now.
Exactly! Slap a set of nylon strings on & let it teach you what it can. Then, when you're ready, move up a notch.
A girl taught me how to tune a guitar by ear many years ago while in college. Later, I tuned my guitar to whatever vinyl record I was playing along to. Then I bought a pitch pipe, which was convenient to check my tuning. I resisted buying an electronic tuner, because I trust my ear. But now I rely on digital tuners. But I think I'll get another pitch pipe since they don't need a battery.
Can you assist me on how to use the tuner and read the notes for guitar I need to change the tune and pitch to play a song but I’m so confused on how
@@lovleyloner1487 I can only give you an example. I also play bass guitar and even though the bass guitar was in standard tuning it didn't sound right when playing along with a recording. I eventually realized that the bass needed to be tuned a little flat in order to sound correct with the recording. But a tuner couldn't help me, I used my ear, much like I did when starting out. The rest of the songs on the CD were in standard tuning, no correction needed. Hope that helps explain your issue.
Another option that worked for me: YT has videos that show you how each string should sound. Was immensely helpful for me when I started. Link: ruclips.net/video/jJxRjWtwmEE/видео.html

I used these for this video: D'Addario EJ27N Student Nylon Classical Guitar Strings - amzn.to/2R3Xg6S
Its the type that you play at the fire then throw it in

I have the exact same guitar in the exact same color lol
Is it nylon string one or iron string one
It came with regular acoustic strings and I put nylons on after
Now I'm gonna set a timer for 11 11 to make a wish that mines come with everything and don't break mines come on june 9th
Make sure you change the strings asap to prevent the neck from cracking and you should be fine. Let me know how it goes when you get it.
