    I meant to write on your last few videos, but I was just so exhausted at the end of the year after one heck of a year and ended up sleeping away the last two weeks, while RUclips played away on the TV. I managed to stay awake for the RUclipsrs that I regularly watch, but I didn't have the energy to do anything but watch.
    I hope that you are okay. I was worried when my usual Tuesday Maddie-video day didn't have an upload (Australia, so your Monday upload is Tuesday here), so I am going back and giving you an extra watch on this one. I gather it's because you aren't up to filming and or editing or both and I hope you feel better soon. Take it easy!!
    Heated socks are a thing?! Yay for wispies... whispies...(?) I don't know how you spell it, but yay for regrowth!! I am going through the same thing at the moment after a few years of hairloss. I ended up getting a bonnet after seeing you with one and it seems to be working (and less stress at the moment), although it's really hot to use at the moment in the middle of summer.
    School work is interesting to me - What are you studying? Unless it's personal / private. I have a feeling you may have said that you might not be sharing that. If that's the case, that's okay. Good luck with the studies. I am here doing uni work as well... clearly, LOL... But I should be... I need to do two weeks of work in 7 days...
    Rest up, lovely. We look forward to seeing you soon when you are all better. Don't push it. Don't come back with Chloe Ting if you aren't up to it. Listen to your body. Take care.

      I'm alright now! My video this week was supposed to be the Chloe Ting workout challenge, but because I was sick, I ended up not finishing the challenge and thus the video was scrapped. Hope you're doing alright.

      @@maddiedoeswhatshewants I'm so glad to hear that you are on the mend!! As for Chloe Ting, our young bubble of joy and pain always seems to be around, so you can always come back to doing a video about her when you are feeling up to it. As for me, I'm fine. I was just burnt out and exhausted after a very turbulent year. I just slept and slept. I obviously needed it. Hopefully, I will find out soon whether or not I can permanently stay in the role I am in now, which will greatly influence how my 2025 goes. Last year, I was in a great role, but I was pulled back to my permanent role, which was the straw that broke the camel's back. It's a good role and very important, but I have outgrown it and I was so crushed to leave a project and role I had built from the ground up. My cat was also dying at the time and I just wasn't at my best during that time. I spiralled, if I am being honest. Alas, we are strong, aren't we? And we adapt and we overcome. I started a new role a few weeks later (my beloved cat, Loki, passed on the second day in that role) and here I am now. But I am looking towards the horizon.
      As for the heated socks - How lovely is Henry! I appreciate men who show genuine care, thought and friendship towards their wives. He reminds me of my own husband. I might have to look for them for my husband as his feet are always terribly cold! As for the bonnet, it's been good. Very hot during our 40°C heatwave days though (104°F)... I'll have to work out a way around that. But my hair is coming back. I have very fine and very curly hair, it's standing up in every which direction and after getting to a point where my scalp was becoming visible in places, I don't even care!
      I respect your need for privacy. It's a very public thing to be on RUclips. I do wonder if you are in a similar or adjacent field to me, just because of the vibe I pick up from you. Many of our people (ADHD people) end up in fields like mine. Some of the adjacent fields to mine require a lot of privacy, so I respect that. I couldn't focus at school. Every report said "Erin would do so much better, if only..." Turns out - ADHD! Hurrah! I did my first degree in Music and it was half an amazing success and half an unmitigated disaster. Some subjects were great, if I didn't need sustained focus, such as a performance, where I could just whip out my flute and play, top marks! But if I needed to submit an essay or something... fail, fail, fail. I literally handed in one essay on "The Double Ontendres of Classical and Contemporary Music", which was torn out of my notebook - I didn't even spell "entendre" correctly! How appalling!!! I eventually completed it 7 years after I started it. When I finally graduated the head of the School of Contemporary Arts came up to me and said she looked forward to seeing what I produced as a musiologist "Yeah, nah, I've just taken a job with Housing..." She was horrified! But it was the right thing. I am studying psychology and criminology now. My hope is to complete a PhD with a focus on Housing, Transport and the interactions with community wellbeing. It'll come full circle eventually, I hope! I'm also a much better student this time around.
      Anyway - Happy new year and I look forward to your next video!

    Rainbowplantlife has some great tips on how to prepare tofu, the key is to get the moisture out first.
    For PakChoi I prefer the baby Pak choi over the adult sized version, it's just a bit more tender.

    Aw feel better soon, and the video was great even as you weren’t feeling well! I can’t believe neither of you had never had tofu before. If your body allows for roasted sesame oil it’s an awesome thing to add to air fryer tofu marinade or rub for a stir fry especially if you try it again. Happy New Year & thanks for sharing w/us, you were a fave discovery of mine in 2024 & I it’s an honor to support you how I can. I hope you get rest & good luck w/school too. 🫶🏾

      Thanks! I'll look into elderberry. I take fish oil once a day, but I'll try anything at this point lol; especially considering the FDA recently came out saying most cold medicine doesn't work. 😅 I actually used ChatGPT to help me navigate restaurant ingredients when I was doing No Added Sugar, so it can be really helpful in a lot of ways! It always blows my mind how people use it.

    Omg Maddie I LOVE tofu so I hope you keep trying and I appreciate how willing you are to try new things!
    For a super meaty tofu (I use it in chickenless chicken noodle soup 😂) I make a quick marinade with a little liquid smoke, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, and some chili or paprika then salt to taste.
    Best of luck on your journey and I’m sending baby vibes your way 💕

    I hope you feel better quickly. I've never had tofu, it doesn't look good to me. How was the bok choy, I've never had that either but have wanted to try it. It's nice that Henry always tries everything you make.

    • @maddiedoeswhatshewants
      @maddiedoeswhatshewants  19 дней назад +1

      It was my first time as well and it was...a little weird. I didn't hate it, but it was odd. I actually think some more seasoning could have made it better. I overcooked mine so I need to give it another chance lol. I have heard of people preparing it to taste like chicken, and I do see how it could take on that texture/taste.
      The bok choy was good sauted in oil as a stir fry. I need to figure out what to do with the rest of the head because I have a lot left lol. It did make me gassy, I will say.
      Henry's the best, as usual.

    Also you can try some Peruvian dishes with quinoa, it will give more fun to eat because they have more flavour (also you can change some ingredients to make it PCOS friendly). You can eat quinoa instead of rice too (for example the tofu dish you made in your video) and add it in your soup. You can also make grounded tofu and add some spices in it to make a homemade Taco Bell wrap. A lot of Korean, Japanese dishes are PCOS friendly, in fact most Asian dishes. There’s a RUclips channel called “one meal a day” which is a asrm Korean cooking channel and the dishes are very simple and quick to make and very very VERY TASTY 🤤

      I'm intrigued by your suggestions! Honestly ChatGPT was probably better for a jumping off point and I could have/should have took more creative liberties, but I physically didn't have it in me. 😅
      Soy gets a bad wrap, hormone/fertility wise. Someone else in the comments already weighed in saying that they avoid it as well. Having said that, I do really love Asian cooking. I make curries and stir fries--granted, I'm sure it's the white people versions lol. But I do enjoy them. And you can't really do Asian cooking without soy sauce, so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place lol

    • @beevas1615
      @beevas1615 19 дней назад

      @ hahaha don’t worry there are multiple kind of soy sauce (light and dark) I just don’t add salt because it’s already salty and it’s more about the quantity too and frequency for example 2-4 tbsp and let marinate whatever meat or tofu for a few minutes. Asian people are kinda born with a bottle of soy sauce in their hands 😂 so they’re used to it. You can find some Asian products with reduction of salt like miso paste (you can make delicious ramen if you like that but don’t eat it too often if your body is not used to) and oyster sauce too. And chatGPT can guide you with some creative dishes with quinoa and tofu too of course it’s easier when you know which country use it often in their diet. I made a little research with ChatGPT about Peruvian diet for weight loss and a few ingredients has to be modified to be less heavy on the gut and less caloric (that’s for me because I want to go back to my old eating habits with a pinch of modification).
      Don’t worry about creativity it can be challenging and sometimes we ain’t feeling it too. It’s just in case you get bored of the salad you had in your video. And follow what your body is used to culturally food speaking, for example you’re eating more Mediterranean dishes so keep doing it and add a bit of other culture dishes without changing drastically (I’m saying that because when I started college I stopped to eat my Peruvian dishes and started to eat more white people food and I gained so much weight and it was hard to lose it, since I started to eat more Asian and Peruvian food (some Peruvian dishes are a mix of Asian food so my body is used to it) obviously with a good quantity, I started to lose weight and get back my balanced hormones (of course with the help of Chinese medicine and yes I will soon go see a doctor for a check up). The more you’ll get knowledge about other dishes the more you will love food and gain experience and confidence too.
      I like to watch your video, you’re doing amazing and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. I wish you the best girl!

    • @beevas1615
      @beevas1615 19 дней назад

      @ also I forgot to tell you that when I want to make a ground beef wrap I use a small amount of ground beef and put it on the pan without oil because beef is already oily and salty too. After I see more oily meat on the pan I ground the tofu on it so like that it absorbs the juice of the meat and fry it enough. Try to just put ground meat on the pan and don’t move it you’ll see there will be oil getting out because it’s the fat of the beef. Sometimes it doesn’t do it when it’s frozen beef. Red meat is delicious but unfortunately us women have been cursed to not eat it often or it will affect our hormones 😭. But mix a really small amount with a big amount of tofu and you’ll see it will taste good with the spices. The other grounded meat will need oil because they have less fat than beef meat

      I actually had a recorded clip of me talking about it, but I sounded like death and the vlog was long enough so I left it out lol. I think I overdid mine a bit so the outer crust was a bit too...crusty. It was fine? I have the recipe I used linked in the description. It's not something I'd go running to try again, but so many people swear by it and have good ideas regarding tofu, so I'd like to give it another shot.

      It was a bit odd! I discovered that the ChatGPT recommendations are probably a good jumping off point to inspire ideas, but the meal ideas themselves weren't whole--they weren't full blown recipes the way I would have liked. Someone more creative and with more energy than me probably could have taken the ideas and made something better out of them.
      I linked the tofu recipe I used in the description. I definitely over did it in the air fryer. It had a crust, but it was a little too done. It wasn't gross, but it didn't impress me. It just didn't have a lot of flavor. More seasonings probably would have helped it, but soy sauce and garlic powder are also pretty flavorful, so it may be a tofu thing.
      The sautéed veggies and rice portion were solid but literally what you'd expect. I've had better stir fried recipes, for sure. But I could really see someone taking ChatGPT's recommendation and turning the lunch/dinner recipe into something really good.
      Sorry for the long comment. I had a lot of thoughts and a surprising amount of people asking about the tofu lol.

    So basically, about soy: they say that its phetoestrogens could increase your actual estrogen. There are a lot of flaws to that logic:
    Phetoestrogens LOOK similar to estrogens, however, your body does NOT mistake it for estrogen. It's a plant hormone, not an animal hormone. Animal products however MIGHT contain actual estrogen, such as cow milk, because, surprise, cow milk comes from female mammals.
    The "slander" part comes in, where the "discourse" actually has a racial dimension. Some people believe that asian men are more emasculated because of their soy product consumption. That is neither proven, nor is there any measure by which one could actually say that someone is more or less masculin. What we perceive as masculin in western countries is usually based on... western bodies and western body ideals, so of course, an ethnically asian body can not figure into the "masculine to feminin" binary quite as neatly.
