As long as you state that it's a first impressions video, I can't see why that would be a problem to anyone, this channel is your opinions anyway... Watching these reviews and impressions is a tool to help gather your OWN thoughts and impressions, not to cling on every word and expression from the person you are listening to 100%. It's encouraged to explore many reviews and discussions to figure out if a product is right for you. That is kind of an adult skillset you need in life in general.
HIGHLY disagree with the commenter who thinks you shouldn't release a First Impressions video after one play of a game. The video is clearly titled, and clearly states, you only played it once. Your opinion is completely valid on that one play.
It would be like watching one episode and not continuing to watch because it didn't hook you in with the first episode. That's a valid first impression, which is what it is.
It's not a review, it's a FIRST IMPRESSION.
Potential video topic: How much does a designer/publisher typically spend **before** launching a crowdfunding project? I imagine design, art, prototypes, ads, social media, paid coverage, and many other activities.
I disagree with the commenter who thinks you shouldn't release a First Impressions video after one play of a game. I understand his point, but as long as you are up front that it is a first impressions I see no issue with it.

Completely respect the viewpoint. I personally don’t mind it when you give a first impressions as a snippet within a larger video about multiple things. But a full dedicated video, first impressions or not, has a lot of weight to it and even comes up in the algorithm more often in searches for that game. If RUclips worked differently I would agree with you I think. But generally speaking I’m not big on them. Not against them, just not a fan.
Edit: I realize I’m likely in the minority here, just giving my 2 cents.
Regarding the comments you got on your first impression of Sand. I’m very comfortable with (and want) you playing one game and giving your critical opinion because you are so thoughtful. You never (rarely?) say “this game is bad.” Instead you say “this game didn’t work for me” and you take the time to think about what others might see and enjoy in the game. I appreciate how measured you are and your transparency
I believe answering comments and having a discussion on various topics warrants a new regular series of videos on the channel :)

I really like knowing about critical first impressions, I before buying will look at several reviews and I care less about the fact there is a critical review than what the critism is. For example, if you tell me the rule book is badly written it might be a great game but I am unlikly to put the effort in to get that far.
On the topic of 10 games if you like ...
I would also really love a revival of play this not that! That was one of my favorite formats back when it all started.

I appreciated that you put out any content on Sand at all! In my opinion, as long as creators, like yourself, are prefacing their thoughts, reviews, etc with what they're experience with the game was (multiple plays, only at 2 players, single play), I can still take away valuable information and interpret it on my own. Any third party review or opinion on a game that I'm interested in is useful to me to help validate or question my interest into a game. So thank you (also super stoked about BUS, thanks for the news)

It's interesting to me that people feel the need to complain about the existence of first impression videos (or any videos in a style that isn't to their liking for that). I watch a lot of your videos, probably 4-6 a week, sometimes more. I don't watch pretty much any of your First Impressions because that's generally not content I enjoy consuming. But I don't feel the need to comment on every one that's not content I enjoy. Creators will see in their viewership metrics what kinds of videos people want to see from them. No need to vote with a comment.
I think it is worth leaving a comment on Alex’s videos because he is so open to feedback. Especially if the comment includes “the why” or more context.
I think any comment left respectfully I appreciate. In their case they were concerned about the fairness to the designer/publisher..which i think is a reasonable concern.
I don't follow the BGG Hotness, but I like your summaries of why games have popped onto the list.
Depending on the depth, you can totally form an opinion after one play.
I bought the Magic the Gathering boardgame (something Dominaria something). After one playthrough, I felt I saw everything it had to offer.
It's a game I'd teach my kids to play before I teach them Catan.

Alex, Alex, Alex!!!, I remember ordering Monumental based on your recommendation years ago. I believe I would love it, given our similar tastes on board games. However, this Kickstarter kills the vibe. Interestingly, I'm stepping back a bit from the board game world, but I'm happy to receive Kickstarters like Skyrise, Bloodstone and Tamashi, which have found their spot on the shelf of shame. The journey which start in 2019 with you is lovely.
You should look into the Drop Bears update. News / updates worthy. I think you covered the campaign. Short of it is they’re asking for more money. They said the game will deliver regardless but they need more money to avoid delays and losses.
Funforge needs to look in the mirror.
It was good to see the Boardgamewire article on Funforge and Monumental campaign. The communication has been so bad that no one has any idea of when or what they will ship after 3 years, and all trust in their words is lost. I do hope it delivers as I have the base game and really want to play it with the great African nations of the past.

Hi Alex, which website do you use to check on upcoming crowdfunding campaigns? It looks nice.
I use a variety of sources, from board game, geek, to shelfclutter, my own lists and more
for me GW2 is about the experience with people more than about achieving something. The first time i played it alone and i was in a bad place and tried to escape the reality of my life but the second time i played it with my new partener at the time(8 years we're together now) and my friends, i have a lot of good memories of the time we spent on it and all the fun we had together exploring the world even if we didn't do everything. I didn't play any campaign boardgame that gives the same feeling as a campaign videogame, i can't get invested in it and i get bored, there is not as much depth in the full experience as in a videogame, it become repetitive a lot faster. The only one i loved is clank! legacy, because it was very fun and just 11 games, i would do it again if i had the opportunity.
What I always take from yours and other videos too is that these are always just your own opinions feelings etc. toward a game. Ofc some are more opinionated than others. For example a bad rulebook is a bad rulebook, no question about it. But is the theme working / not working for you? - that is totally different for everyone. I feel like saying "you should not post anything after one play" is like taking away free speech. Are you not free to say something after one play on your own channel? Ofc you are free. It's you channel, you can do whatever you want. It's up to us to want to be here or not watching / listening to you. Keep up Alex! Cheers!
Thanks for the thoughts! I do think there's a difference between "allowed actions" vs "responsible actions". That's the more interesting conversation to me.
I wouldn't ask someone to play a game more than they want to. I'm just wondering if with your first impression videos you could include links to other reviews. Understand people can always search for these. Mostly I won't watch these first impressions myself unless I can view more than 2 or 3 reviews on a game. I've seen too many comments on BGG where the commenter has changed their mind, either way, on multiple plays of a game.

21:31 Differing opinions, Alex! I really hate 5 Tribes... For me it is WAY too tactical - and if you are playing with 4 players, there is the potential for you to go 8 moves without getting a turn (if you bid to go 1st one round, but then save money and end up going last the next). I really despise tyne waiting for your next turn party off the game - as it makes it IMPOSSIBLE to plan for your next turn until right before your turn comes around. You can think about good moves - but then right before your turn, your opponent moving right before you sees and does what you are going to do - so now you have to take 5 more minutes to decide what you are going to do, since the board state completely changed based on that one move. Way too much analysis paralysis (AP) 😞

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it. I never got my copy of Age of Atlantis and their utter debacle. El Dorrado is a scam of a company until that changes for me and I’ll always promote their anti client practice until they resolve an outstanding issue.
I'm not typically one to fall into conspiracy theories, but regarding Legend Academy, it's baffling that the game is supposedly so close to the end of production and yet El Dorado hasn't shown anything approaching a finished product.
And while some Internet trolls take things too far with doxing and death threats, a company can't use "people are mean to me on the Internet" as an excuse to ignore the people supporting them.
I agree and they have a track record of leaving people with undelivered games. If are willing to do it before they clearly can't be trusted this time. Maybe some people might get this game but I'm sure if you have any issues with it, they will not make it right.
It was Fun Forge and Steeped Games who said comments are mean, not El Dorado Games.
I'm on the fence about paying for shipping for Legend Academy. It feels like throwing good money after bad at this point but at the same time I really think I will enjoy the game if it ever shows up. It'll depend on what the final number is and if it's low enough that I can justify never seeing a return on that money. Short of the game showing up on my doorstep, I don't think there's anything EDG could do to give me any faith.

There are politics in board games, whether you like it or not. Feel free to hide your head in the sand, but for some of us, these topics are of immense importance.
Hard pass on your take I'm afraid. This is part of our life, and Alex is respectful about the way he discusses it. It would be a failure on his part to not discuss in the context he did (mixed feelings in the community about the GAMA con being in Kentucky).
