I tend to drive quite aggressively which causes my tyres to degrade quickly. This really helped me to still be able to push without losing my tyres to the track within a few laps. Thanks a lot!
I made jokes like this (who hasn't ?! ;D) but it's not really Pirelli's fault. FIA asked Pirelli to make "crappy" tires so managing tyre wear becomes more important again.
Everyone still races with the infamous 1/11 setups and the extra speed they get more tan makes up for the (theoretical) extra tyre wear. They should scrap setup from the game if they can´t come up with something decent, or at least give us an option to race on a fixed setup for everybody. Cranking everything up to the fast side of the bar doesn´t add anything to the game. Bugged setups and curbs and grass being friendly is what kills this game. If you use a sensible setup and ride the curbs in a sensible way you´ll be slow. You need to abuse the tracks and use nonsense setups to be competitive.
@@vedanthms3634 there was an F1 game released by Codemasters that behaved differently when you would change graphics settings. It was a joke, both my comment and the game.
Here's a tip: Do Q1 with prime tyres. You don't need options as you only have to get at least 16th. Do 1-3 hot laps on options in Q2 and if you make it to Q3 either take a new set of options or just do 1-2 hot laps with the current tyres. That should save the tyres for the race. Works fine for me ;)
I've just ended a career 50% race at Bahrain in a Force India, Professional level with only Traction Control at Medium as an aid. After failing to enter Q2 (Aus: 10th, Mal: 9th, Chn 7th) I got after 3 curves at 12th, with di Resta in front of me. 6 laps later, I checked race director to see the lap times. On the same tyre, di Resta was running at 1:38-1:38,5 ,whilst I was running at 1:40 , avoiding excessive speeding not at straight line and especially at kerbs, and in fact, being as gentle as I could with the tyres. My strategy was an option-prime-option race. The last option tyre was at 75% at the time I put it, because I had done 2 flying laps at Q1. In the end I struggled holding back Chilton and Van der Garde, who were a lap behind, while having lost a battle with Bianchi... In this game, if you go fast, you end up with ruined tyres and overtaken. If you look after your tyres, you go like a gay, and they overtake you eitherway.
haha ask me a favor: drive REAL a f1 or f3 car, do a pair of nice tests "piu belle" and then go back and comment, you talk like u was hamilton or vettel, but maybe u can't drive a motorcycle, a've tested a sauber-ferrari, last year, and i say: the engineer say to me: even if u drive like a bitch, dont turn off the traction control, u never know how the downforce and the aerodinamycs react to the track, first make a pair of laps, just for test the systems and heat the tyres, then turn off traction, if u are lucky, maybe don't die in a crash lol

Andrew Hall Having a Ferrari engine does not turn a Toro Rosso into a Ferrari. That would be like saying that a Renault engine makes a Caterham the same as a Red Bull.

I know this game is 11 years old, but i still play it. This tutorial was very helpful, it helped me also improving my lap time (i never used the quick menu). Maybe my laptime at the australian gp track was just horrible, but, hey, -2.366 is great.
maaaan I needed this ... I begin to play career and in australia in last 2 laps I was sliding all over the place ... hamilton chased me and he close the gap from 11.3 seconds to 3.9 !!! I'm sure this would help me thanks a lot :)
Just to clarify you can use this exact setup for any track on the game and it should work, the only thing I would change is the Aero to suit the style of track you are racing on :)
Tiametmarduk, thank you so much man! since F1 2012 im using all your setup video's for my carreer races and I really learn from you video's. Thans for all the time your putting in this ;)
Come to think of this, will your anti roll bar setting (seeing that you're setting them to really soft) hurt your handling? I think that may make the car wobble a lot, and that's bad for the balance.
People have been struggling with tyre wear in every car. If there is any difference in tyre wear between car it would be by a very miniscule amount. But overall these changes will work for every car to good effect :)
If what you say is true, the simulation is rubbish. I had, many years ago GP2 where you had to finetune a hundred things on the car and believe me, it made a difference, including tyre wear in a much more realistic way.
It's not supposed to be an F1 sim. Codemasters has come out and said, "These are not meant to be simulation games." It's supposed to give you an accessible, digestible approximation racing in F1 without actually simulating it.

fick dich Yep. Until this week I was out of a job, I love racing, and I live alone, haha. I found another job though, so, maybe I have less time now to do this.
Higher rear wing gives you better traction meaning that you are sidling less in the sacrifice of straight line speed. This means that it indirectly saves your tyres as you are sliding less.
I did this at Monza in a 100% race, had to pit on lap 4 because I used all the options in qualifying but then I somehow got 41 laps out of a new set of prime tyres. The reason why I got so many laps out of the tyres was mainly because of forcing them until they were completely red enough to pretty much make them explode if I hit the gravel.
Thank you 4 uploading this my tyres always go towards the end of the race especially the left front but i used the set up and my tyres weren't that bad during the final few laps and i managed 2 push on them and get a few more places :)
I did a 50% race in f1 2013 driving around Australia and could do a two stop while conserving the tyres and all three sets felt fine at the end of each stint
Should also point out CM have stated in the early stages of career mode tyre wear is worse than GP mode and later on in career mode, due to the cars being less developed as the R&D challenges haven't been completed. Another tip i'd suggest is to start the race with an aggressive fuel load, this means the car is lighter and as a result you aren't putting so much load through the tyres. Good video, i tend to implement most of your techniques too although maybe not so much of the lean fuel mode.
Hey Bro, it's probably been covered by other comments; I've found holding the throttle just above 3/4 on the start will prevent wheel spin. As soon as the car settles, you can open the throttle fully. How fast you go from 3/4 to open will depend on various conditions like the weather and especially your rear camber. Just as I hitting full throttle, KERS is being engaged. This all takes a small moment to achieve - well worth it though.
Man, thanks about the info but is this preserving-tyres setup suitable enough for qualifying and isnt it quite slower than the one in your ''Spain setup'' video (which was quite aggressive on tyres).??
Do you use abs in the game? Braking pressure also affects tyre life because when your brakes lock up your tyres will grind through the track, and doesn't the toe configuration of the car affect tyre life as well? I did not see you cover them so I just want to ask...
Good stuff Ben, cheers. Would this alternate setup to save tires in races apply to all tracks?
11 лет назад
Very good explanation Ben. I've tried this suggestions and I could make 2 stops in %50 Australia with Red Bull. Thanks man. By the way, -2,50 -0,50 camber settings make the car so consistent and gentle on tyres.
I was driving on Melbourne on my carrear for youtube I had my headphones in and I made my tyres last allot more than earlier thank you do more tyre saving plz
Hi, I was hoping that one of you top guys would put these ideas in a video. Great job on this. Just 2 thoughts: 1. How valid are these ideas in F1 2012? 2. In longer races, there's a lot of time to gain through effective fuel management (eg getting your car light early and gain time on every lap, until you have to go lean). What do you think about the trade off between this and switching fuel mix constantly to reduce tyre wear. I have a video on fuel management if you're curious :).Thanks
what difficulty level do you race with? im not a bad driver but i can never beat the ai on my difficulty level(cant remember off the top of my head what i had it set to before)... well, with it being codemasters AI you can always get into first even on hard difficulty since they are so bad at braking but other times than that they drive like they have no minimum weight restriction or something lol
More guides please to do with managing braking and setup. I was great on f12010, f12011 but f12012 & f12013 I'm getting a spanking. Using a Logitech force GT in PS3. Good work Ben!
hi im having problems with force india and their setups. my tyre wear is somewhat horrific. i recently had a race in catalunya and it went from 3rd to 11th thanks to tyre wear. i used the setups you shown on your videos but it didnt quite work out. help?
oh gosh..i had the same problem at catalunya..i drove laptimes arround 1.19.5-1.20.5 and after 6 laps they was totally dead and i startet to struggeling and in the end i had to ram the guys behind me out of the track to win the race (offline) im not a ram noob ;) but i figgured out exactly the same like you and the setup effects togetherr with the driving style are massive important how long u can kepp the tires alive. nice video, thumps up
What I also noticed Ben is, The Brake Bias make also a slight difference on your tyres, What I do sometimes is when my front tyres are worn out faster than the rear tyres I put my brake bias on the rear. The front brakes won't overheating as much as the rear brakes. :)
Hello Tia, nice video! One thing I don't like however is that you compare to a career Toro Rosso race which is from my experience much different from a GP with all the development upgrades etc. I think that is the thing that makes the most difference to the tyre life in this comparison. I would appreciate a comparison with this compared to qualy setup in the same Ferrari GP race. Thank you
i take it you and aarava use steering wheels rather than the ps3 duelshock controller for smooth turning? as i've just brought the game and struggle on cornering
Do you have any advice to warm tyres ? In rain conditions with my Sauber i actually cannot warm my back tyres in wet conditions. I tried a lot of things but it really didnt work
First of all, congratulations, it's an excellent video! Second, I remember in f1 2012 that there was a briefing on each track telling how was the Tyre Wear and Brake Wear (i.e. tyre wear high / brake wear medium). I didn't find this kind of information on 2013's game. Its it missing or am I just not seeing? Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Amazing videos you've been posting recently :) Quick question though: As you have shown, you lasted 3 additional laps on the Options, but did you also run simulate a 3-lap qualifying stint on the same set? Additionally, Tyre Wear (according to CM) changes over the course of a season depending on the team, so you should have tested in a Torro Rosso. Regardless, your setup vids are pretty good, and I generally use them as inspiration for my own races.
very good video especially the changing of the engine mapping in the low speed corners, however maybe the career tyres only lasted to lap 6 because you qualified on those tyres as opposed to these tyres being brand new on the ferrari? just a thought as if you remove the outlap, the hotlap and the in lap from career they might make lap 9 aswell
Handy video. Would definitely apply to Malaysia as in a 100% career race I had destroyed my tyres by lap 9 and was supposed to pit on lap 13. I find the tyres last a lot longer as fuel wears off on this game and it's nice to see there is a definitive difference between a good qualy and consistent race setup as well
When I play F1 2012, I'm often too gentle on the tyres, end up lapping too slow and losing my strategy because it's too late to speed up. Does staying off the kerbs help? That's usually what I try to do, and I think it works.
Hey Ben , I tried this setup and tricks with the same track , but I am getting a very unstable rear end (tcs on) which is causing wheels pin Which is hurting both my lap times and tyres . So how do I overcome this?
been watching a lot of your videos, think there very good and informative. in a different video I saw you use the same steering wheel as me :D care to share your wheel settings? I've been testing different settings e.g. linearity and stuff but I can't seem to get a perfect setting. just wondered with you being so smooth with the wheel if yours would help me? as im forever adjusting mid corner :(
i think you are wrong about how to save the tyres but your advices are good. I just want to say that , everyone is driving by his way .You are driving like an f1 driver ,you take all corners like an real driver or like using a simulator. i tried you setup and i had to pit stop in the 5 lap .Maybe is the way i drive or the setting iam using . here is the question . Tell me what driving setting you are using so ill try them .
Nice video, any chance you could try using the more aggressive tyre setup on the Ferrari to see how many laps you get out of the options in comparison?
I start my carrer in toro rosso and the option tyres last only 4 or 5 laps and with the prime tyres i only can do 8 or 9 laps. After than "the car is all over the place" as hamilton once said xD
Same to me. It's really getting on my nerves. I'm in toro rosso, and competing with others well. Always 1-5th until tires are worn out 2 laps earlier than i have to pit. It's impossible to drive 17 laps with 1 stop. 2 stops = >15 place. Idk is it due to keyboard and need to use steering wheel or what. :/
Good video, however, I have some doubt for the accuracy of the test. You're in a Ferrari which is probably smarter on its tires than a Toro Rosso. I know the setup made a difference, but if you have time I'd be interested in seeing the Toro Rosso version of this test. Keep up the good stuff mate :)
What do you have to say about tyre wear with the controller? I don't have any wheels to play, so the xbox controller is my only way. I prefer the xbox controller rather than the dualshock 3, but I still struggle with the tyre wear even when trying to go smoothest I can possibly go on the controller. Do you think these setups may help on the xbox controller as well? Thanks and awesome driving!
You need to do a test in Career mode on this track during a season because in GP mode, all cars have all R&D upgrades meaning the tyres last longer where as in Career mode you have almost no upgrades to the car giving a better idea of how long tyres will last
I still confused in F1 2014, Like when you race in the first early 5 laps, and suddenly it getting rain.. How do I change to wet tyre? Because in the early straregy, I decided to just use both and prime tyre because i thought that it was dry race Can we change type of tyre before we enter Pit (in the middle of the race)?
Ben, i'm not gonna lie i have already watch this video and thanks alot for the tips! It has been excellent help! But for every map except spain this have not worked. Like holy damn tyres runs quick as hell on Catalunya track!
I tend to drive quite aggressively which causes my tyres to degrade quickly. This really helped me to still be able to push without losing my tyres to the track within a few laps. Thanks a lot!
Pirelli not only ruined the sport , it also ruined this game ! damn
I made jokes like this (who hasn't ?! ;D) but it's not really Pirelli's fault.

Bugged setups and curbs and grass being friendly is what kills this game. If you use a sensible setup and ride the curbs in a sensible way you´ll be slow. You need to abuse the tracks and use nonsense setups to be competitive.
It is Codemasters. Try a lower screen resolution to safe tyres. Ity just might work!

i take it you and aarava use steering wheels rather than the ps3 duelshock controller for smooth turning? as i've just brought the game and struggle on cornering
Only slightly, being faster in the race is so much more valuable than Qualifying pace.
Amazing videos you've been posting recently :)
Quick question though: As you have shown, you lasted 3 additional laps on the Options, but did you also run simulate a 3-lap qualifying stint on the same set? Additionally, Tyre Wear (according to CM) changes over the course of a season depending on the team, so you should have tested in a Torro Rosso.
Regardless, your setup vids are pretty good, and I generally use them as inspiration for my own races.
very good video especially the changing of the engine mapping in the low speed corners, however maybe the career tyres only lasted to lap 6 because you qualified on those tyres as opposed to these tyres being brand new on the ferrari? just a thought as if you remove the outlap, the hotlap and the in lap from career they might make lap 9 aswell
Hey dude, just one question. Can i use those set-ups at all tracks?Oo
It really helped me ! Thanks Ben ! ;)
which controller u use?? because ur turns r soo smooth n perfect?? n does it support pc also??
He uses a wheel
I've been testing different settings e.g. linearity and stuff but I can't seem to get a perfect setting. just wondered with you being so smooth with the wheel if yours would help me? as im forever adjusting mid corner :(
Great stuff, this should help in my upcoming league :D
Need a steering wheel to do the job. i'm getting alot of rear wheel spin and jitters through corners...Smooth driving there...! Likes!
i think you are wrong about how to save the tyres but your advices are good.
In a 50% race which setup would be quickest by the end of the race?
I start my carrer in toro rosso and the option tyres last only 4 or 5 laps and with the prime tyres i only can do 8 or 9 laps.
After than "the car is all over the place" as hamilton once said xD
i moved to Sauber after germany
i think you get an tyre wear upgrade in the season
Good video, however, I have some doubt for the accuracy of the test. You're in a Ferrari which is probably smarter on its tires than a Toro Rosso. I know the setup made a difference, but if you have time I'd be interested in seeing the Toro Rosso version of this test. Keep up the good stuff mate :)
0:47 illuminati confirmed!
Thanks and awesome driving!
i need this info too, i struggle with my x369 controller with this shitty tyre wear
Da.shArk87
Serves you right for being cheap and not owning a wheel ;) Good don't come cheap, and cheap don't come good.
Alex Paulsen Dude i own a DFGT -.- i just love playing when i'm in bed...
Da.shArk87
Well, serves you right for being lazy and not getting out of bed to play your video games.
I use a keyboard XD
I managed to save tyres very well, but was struggling with huge understeer on old tyres. But that's better than uncontrolable wheel-spin
You need to do a test in Career mode on this track during a season because in GP mode, all cars have all R&D upgrades meaning the tyres last longer where as in Career mode you have almost no upgrades to the car giving a better idea of how long tyres will last
Uve just earned yourself a subscriber...
The most important thing is, make sure that the tires doesn't drift, because there is when the tyres start to lost grip and increase tyre wear.
I still confused in F1 2014,
Like when you race in the first early 5 laps, and suddenly it getting rain..
How do I change to wet tyre?
Because in the early straregy, I decided to just use both and prime tyre because i thought that it was dry race
Can we change type of tyre before we enter Pit (in the middle of the race)?
Yes. if you play the game for more than 5 minutes you should be able to find the option to change tyres.
Does staying off kerbs help save the tyres?
Ben, i'm not gonna lie i have already watch this video and thanks alot for the tips! It has been excellent help! But for every map except spain this have not worked. Like holy damn tyres runs quick as hell on Catalunya track!
is it worthy buying the game 2013 if i allready have F1 2012?
How are the grapichs? and the feeling of the cars between the 2 games?
you should do a video about setups for all tracks, thanks for the work
