      My 400s is due soon. I'm pretty darn excited. The apps don't excite me. Maybe when they improve it by making it flatter, so it can get under more furniture, I'll be enthused about an upgrade. If you get an IR blaster you can use your phone as the remote. RM4 for instance just connects to your router and can do power over ethernet so no extra plug needed. Then you connect your phone to the app and you press each button and it'll simulate them in app. I keep a remote drawer and use my phone as a remote.

    Thank you for the video! I had the 400s. I sent it back. I spent more time babysitting it and couldn't get it to clean one room completely. We have similar thresholds/transitions from hardwood to tile. It would go over one way and then get stuck. I will get the 450. I tried 3 robot mops. This one for sure got the floor cleaner hands down! I just couldn't deal with the dumb version. I am hoping that they make this one smarter over time. I agree with the mapping. I do wish it could dock itself. I also wish they could figure out a way to deal with the transitions. Thanks again!

    Now I may be wrong about this but I’m 95% sure I’m correct. With the feature showing it’s position in real-time being able to do it with the W450 and not the roombas actually has nothing to do with Vslam rather than the gyroscope. I have a ton of robot vacuums with all different navigation methods and one that maps like this one doesn’t have lidar or vslam it’s gyroscope navigated. I wish iRobot would integrate that into their systems it wouldn’t be hard for them I’m sure. Actually would love them to switch to lidar. It’s beyond me why they haven’t, even though they’ve done a lot with vslam.

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  3 года назад

      You may be right, but I'm pretty sure the Roombas have gyroscopes. Without them, their navigation would be completely worthless. Take the i3, for example. It HAS to have a gyroscope, or else how would it have the slightest idea where it is?

  • @lauracavanaugh5610

    Does the w450 vacuum as well? Do you need to vacuum before washing?

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  3 года назад +1

      Well, it's not designed to, and you don't want it to. It will suck smaller debris and pet hair into its water tank if you don't vacuum first, but you don't want that, since it's a pain to clean. So to answer your question, this is a dedicated mopping robot and you want to sweep or vacuum the floor first before using it.

    • @MrRoombato

      I don't think they can, not with the dual tank design. But think of it like this...you definitely need to vacuum under beds and such because dust gets there...but why do you need to mop there? You don't walk there or spill anything there. Unless of course you have a ferret...

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  Год назад +1

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  2 года назад

      Definitely the W450. But you want to make sure its movement speed is set as slow as possible in the app. That's how you get the best performance. However...it also depends on the complexity of the environment. The m6 will do better navigating around obstacles and still cleaning the whole space. The W450 is not a real navigating robot and has only the slightest clue about where it is in the room.

    Any one month review comment on iLife W450? Mine seems to have lost suction. For the amount of clean water I fill in, I would expect at least half of that to be collected in dirty water tank. Instead I see extremely wet floors.

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  3 года назад

      Nothing new to add, it's still doing great. Have you checked yours for hair or other debris stuck in the water tank? They include some handy cleaning tools for getting it out of there. There is also a little orange sponge filter that needs to be cleaned.

      Hello, how is your robot doing ? Did you sort out the suction issue ?

    • @monicalavale
      @monicalavale 2 года назад +1

      @@theattorney6072 It happens when the robot runs on floor that has not been dry vacuumed. Even when I think the floor does not have enough dirt to be vacuumed, and run the W450, the small dirt is enough to clog it and the robot loses suction. Cleaning it is a mess. I am not using it anymore. Waste of money.

      I don't do "full tests" with mopping robots, I tackle messes as they come up. It's all good and fine to put various stuff on the floor like I used to and see how the robot does against that, but I don't find it interesting because, well, that stuff never happens to me in real life. I want to base my tests on the sorts of messes that I actually use my robots for. For vacuums, that's easy to replicate. For mops, not so much. Any ideas?

    • @keith3761
      @keith3761 3 года назад

      @@MrRoombato hmm you would probably have to have a few sheets/tiles like a square meter that you put different dried dirt/products on and keep the tiles to age for like a day or 2 to dry out. ketchup. mustard, mud with a water % mixture and let sit till it dried out. then test the robots on the surfaces against each other. how many passes how well it cleaned them etc. It would be nice to know what the optimal cleaning settings for the w450 are.

      @@keith3761 That's the kind of stuff I have no interest in doing...too artificial. Plenty of other people do that stuff, and do it very well. I like to showcase real world messes with mopping robots. That's my thing. Also, I can already tell you what the best cleaning settings are with the W450.
