Nice review, the mower seems decent but has some real drawbacks that would keep me from even considering it. The lack of a mulching blade is probably #1, why have a mulching plug without a mulching blade? My town doesn't accept grass clippings so it's either mulch or compost myself, for others using the bagger would be usable but leaving full size clippings on the lawn doesn't look good. The smaller size deck and low height adjustment are the other turn offs for me. The smaller deck I could let go but the limited height adjustment is another deal breaker, I routinely mow at 4" and my lawn has been much healthier since I started mowing tall. A better folding handle would be a nice touch, but my current gas mower is also difficult to fold so I end up leaving it in position all season. The battery gauge on the handle is a nice touch, and the deck height adjustment looks to be about as easy as it could get.
I checked the clippings after mulching with this mower and they were quite small, way smaller than full size. I can't compare mulch quality with many mowers, but it seems to be at least decent.
I found that my cable stretched after a few uses maybe.. cause I did notice the same problem on my first few times round or I just got really used to it. Over all it's an awesome lawnmower!!
I bought the Ego 21" self propelled mower this year. Very pricey, but seems to be top of the line. The 18" Makita seemed too small for me. The Ego has a lever to fold the handle down, instead of the four knobs Makita has.
I replied elsewhere also... Makita specified blade diameter, which compares very closely to competitors' 20" deck (which the diameter of the metal cover, not the blade). Actually a much better spec to provide, but hard to compare to others. Honestly, unless you have an enormous lawn, this is probably the difference of one extra pass.
I just picked up the Toro brushless mower, 60 volt battery but the Toro has mulching , 22 inch deck steel construction, was thinking about Makita but not available in Canada yet and I needed a mower, but good video
I have always used a Honda mower with a bag because I want to extract all the grass clippings. The power of the Honda generates a strong air flow to achieve this, where as many other mowers are not so good. I like the Mikita, but I wish this review had reported on how well it collected the clippings
You need to review the Makita cordless portable bandsaw model XBP02Z. There are virtually zero videos on this saw but I bought one anyway because Makita has never let me down and they didn't this time either. Excellent unit in my limited usage thus far.
For mowing I have used a super old Yardman yellow and green lawn mower super cheap to fix myself - still running but it’s time to retire this champ of a mower. I would love to see a video on this and it's limitations. Would mowing an overgrown lawn burn the motor out, or just bog it down like a conventional mower?
bmorefan5220 we don’t abuse a tool, push it yes. This mowers motor will bog and stop It pushed hard into overgrown grass. You’d need to go in at top height setting and work it downwards
We have had the same mower for two years. In case that the lawn is either too dense or too high, we switch off the silent mode. Depending on the measured current consumption, then the motor raises its speed from 2500 to around 3200 or 3300 rounds per minute, hence it should be moved forward in a slower way. Eventually the mower can even handle higher grass. If the current exceeds despite of that a certain limit, e.g. the motor gets blocked by an obstacle, the motor will be switched off immediately, and there’s an indication by a red LED. Usually, the mower can be re-started without delay, since the over-current protection prevents that any items run hot by reacting in a fast way.

If you don't already have a nice lawn that you mow every 4-5 days, battery mowers just aren't there yet. A weed filled water grass yard that hasn't been knocked down in 8-10 days will trip the thermal protection in 150-200 feet.
