Fantastic video as always, Andy! You really managed to capture the "heart" of the pedal in your demos! Thank you very much for the care and attention you put into the video, I'm very happy to have another one of our pedals reviewed by you! 🐙💙
Love your vibe. Does the exp control work like an actual Uni Vibe? I get, that it might not work as well, as the $600-$????, ones. The ones I’ve tried, either dont have the full range of speeds, or the pulse just doesn’t always follow the exp pedal. I have used the Mission Engineering EP-1, when told by the builder to, but they just aren’t great. I’ve tried several more expensive ones, but when used with a delay, there’s no difference, so I’ve kept the EP-1, and sold all but a Moog Ep-3, that is my backup, or for a different pedal. Which expression pedal would work best? I really want to get your V2, and there’s only two other options I’m considering, with yours the one I’d like to get the most, but I have other Uni Vibes, so I’m just trying to find the one I really want.
@@AndyDemos Always partial to the Uni Vibe videos. Still go back and listen to you playing Isabella, on the Villanova from Mojo Hand FX. Which I bought, and still use for when I want a Vibe before Fuzz, or sometimes just for a Leslie effect, and it’s a great always on, boost/thickener, with a little movement, using the mix control correctly. The vibrato is unique as well, because it’s all in that mix control. Love that one, and it’s in an enclosure the size of a Catalinbread pedal.
As always, your demo really illustrates how well a pedal actually sits in a mix or live setting. Many thanks for your efforts all these years, I would wager that at least half of my 60 some pedals were bought because of your excellent skillset and application. My only gripe with this pedal is that the graphic on it is not chaotic enough and the labels seem to be mostly legible. They should really be striving for that KMA look where the text for each knob is so small I have to steal my 80 year old senile neighbor's "peepers" AND the text color should blend in with or be nearly the same color of the background. Maybe all the blue's-lawyer's out there who will buy this pedal will hire a supple young boy (a squier if you please) who can still see to turn their knobs to that killer Jimi sound and all 8 people at McGuffy's on a Tuesday night in January will know....SRV never dies!
@@KrozzDevices "Best pedal review this year goes to...." Andy Demos! You did a great job man! Brazil has some awesome pedal makers! I love Deep Trips Stuff.
Does the expression control work well? Is it anywhere close to an actual Uni Vibe speed pedal? So many Vibes, that are great ones, have a exp input, that usually works with a 10k pedal. Yet, I just haven’t found one yet, that actually follows how quickly I move the pedal, and/or don’t seem to have the full range of speed available through the expression pedal. I’ve used several different ones, with the same Vibe units, including the Mission Engineering one, that has a very good build, and works with delays I have. I’m just curious, as these are priced well, sound great, and I want one that the expression works well with, besides my expensive one.
Hi Corb, thanks for asking! Krakenheart also works with a 10K expression pedal. However, unlike other modern vibes, I made an internal adjustment so that the EXP's speed variation doesn't act linearly - even though the potentiometers used in expression pedals are linear pots. I did this because, just like you, I don't like the way these other vibes vary speed when controlled by an expression pedal and I wanted to make the Krakenheart's speed variation feel more natural to the foot when used with an expression pedal. Regarding the EXP's range, it's exactly the same as the range of the "Pulse" knob! Please feel free to contact me through our website and I'll send you a demo of the Krakenheart working with an expression pedal!
@@mattgilbert7347 I have yet to play the Krozz though. It's not trying to be a vintage unit like some of the others and it sounds amazing. I have to test one out for sure.
@@Bairov I had a Retrovibe Mk3 which was amazing but I had to sell it. I use a Danelectro Cool Cat Vibe which is the best $80 I ever spent on a pedal. It's built to proper vintage Univibe specs with the correct old components
@@mattgilbert7347 I've owned a few of the ones you listed and I'd say you can't go wrong with most of them. Didn't really care for the JHS, but I still haven't parted with it yet.
Cool, but I’d check out the SchuTone Spiralizer: opitcal vibe in mini/pico size pedal.(I was running out of room on my board and finding out this type of vibe in that size existed was astounding! It replaced my JHS Unicorn.)
I don’t really care for the JHS Uni Vibes. They aren’t bad, but they don’t sound as good as this Krakenheart, or a lot of Vibes I’ve had. That Spiralizer is more a phaser, than a Uni Vibe. I remember videos, and a lot were bad, because of the demoer. I’d say it’s pretty much like the FET Lovetone Vibe, that is also in a small enclosure. I know their Luna Obscura, has a vintage circuit, with photocells, though. The Spiralizer can get good sounds, but it’s just not a great Uni Vibe, imo. I just replied to someone else, who commented about the JHS, and how it just seems to be missing something. I felt the same way, and I’ve tried three different ones, that Josh came up with. The Unicorns just don’t do what my favored Uni Vibes can do, and it’s hard to know why. It just doesn’t react to Fuzz or Drive pedals, or me digging in lot the guitar harder, the way the Vibes I like best do. It’s like any effect though. Price, build quality and even cheap builds just don’t matter, if the effect inspires, snd is what one likes. I’d put it in a loop pedal though. Saturn works has them pretty cheap, with or without a buffer. I’ve used them for Behringer pedals, that were nearly broken, and more expensive ones, that I just don’t want you to keep stomping every time I play. Just look up Saturnworks true bypass loop pedal. They’re like $30-40, and it will keep the pedal working great longer.
Is that a joke? If not. Yeah, not gonna happen with an all analog pedal. I thought Chase Bliss would eventually make a Uni Vibe, using some of the ideas from their phaser, that was a Phaser, Pitch Vibrato, Harmoinc Trem and Uni Vibe in one type thing, with something else weird, to be Chase Blissy. Although, their phaser was all analog, so maybe they make a half analog, half digital Uni Vibe, that the digital side can do wild things, and other mod effects, along with those presets you want. But nooooo. They’ll probably make another reverb next. 😄 The digital multi mod GFI synesthesia and Wampler Terraform, have Uni Vibes in them, and presets. I’m not sure about midi though. I really don’t understand why you think Midi is needed, other than presets, and like I already wondered; all analog pedals don’t do anything hooked to midi. Do they?
