Found a 65 inch tlc on the side of the road, only thing wrong with it was the backlight. Bought all the tools/ back lights in this video for like 68 bucks. Followed the steps and now I have a huge tv for a fraction of the original price. You guys rock!
I broke my 65' TLC, I would leave it on and it fried the LED strips. And this television was a gift and I didn't want to have to buy a new one. Your video helped me fix my tv and I'm so excited! Your video was easy to understand and I love that you took your time but didn't give needless commentary. Straight to the point! Thank you!!
This guy just saved me from tossing a $700 TV. Thank you!. Definitely had to rewatch the assembly when I thought I lost the little IR wire that snaps onto the board, didn't realize it was on the bufferboard thing. Thanks again!
Excellent! Just relolaces and worked like a charm! The ribbon cables that connect the buffer boards FLIPS UP. The black price flips up and ribbon pulls out.
Excellent. A very simple and straightforward video, and from the company I'm looking to buy the replacement parts from no less. Currently sitting on a 55" and a 65" TCL with the same dead backlight issue. Both died after a year and a half, literally within a day of each other.
This video has been upgraded, GREAT. Me being old school I thought the ribbon cable that hooks to the buffer board and looks like scotch tape was scotch tape and so I cut them with a razor knife. WHAT A BLUNDER. I ended up getting a air bubble in the screen, so I had to junk it. Glad it was mine.
Thanks for the instructional tutorial. Very thorough step-by-step instructions. Just repaired my 65" TCL tv. A few things I did different. I have read where several people have cracked their screen when trying to remove it from the top filter frame where it is glued together. So, I left it attached to the filter frame and removed them together. Used a couple tabs of painters tape at either end to help keep together. Also, I carefully removed the white reflective backing paper and put back with some Scotch double sided tape here and there. No cutting necessary. I don't know if it will make a difference in longevity of the LEDs but I put a dab of thermal paste under each LED when installing the new strips.
I got the TCL 65S421 TV for free, after confirming the display panel was good with a bright flashlight. I purchased the backlights. I'm going to attempt this repair. If anything goes wrong I will only be out of 40 bucks.
So I have two of these tvs one of them has a broken screen the other has a bad back light is it possible to take the backlight off the one with the broken screen and switch it ?
Seems that two screws hold the strips in place. On the ones that I removed there are some black material that also held the strips in place. Would that be thermal paste? Does the double sided tape need to be thermal or will any double sided tape do? Also, once the new strips are in place, is it okay to turn on the power to confirm that all led strips are working? Thanks for any replies?
I used the LED tester tool to confirm that all the new LEDs worked before reassembly. Scraped off the black adhesive and put a dab of thermal paste under each LED. Double sided tape in between in spots to keep strip tight against backing and paste.
Thanks. One strip out of six not working. Black material on back of strip under leds. Not sure what that material is. Scrapes off easily. Had to cut paper backing around leds on one side and fold back paper to remove strips. Maybe will fold paper back down and cover with white duct tape. Thanks.
@c t Scotch double sided tape will hold that down. I wonder if the different sheen on the white duct tape might make brighter or darker spots. If you use the duct tape let me know how that works out. Thanks.
@ct7625 How's it going just seeing how repair went.Did tv show lines where you cut paper around led.I was debating on cutting or pulling up paper. Thanks
I used the video to replace the LEDs on my 65" TCL tv on November 11th. I notice last night that during streaming and when the tv has a darker screen when processing from from one episode to the other I am seeing lighter areas in the upper mid section of screen. I have an image on my phone and it is limited to about a 8" square area. Is this an issue you have seen? Or could the adhesive backing on the strips have come loose in the area?
Hey maybe you can give us some guidance. We replaced all of our back lights, it fixed the issue but now we have horizontal lines that move when we tap the side of the TV and the left side of the screen is fading different colors. The backlights are working but now this new issue. We suspect we damaged the ribon cables. Any guidance would be welcomed. Thanks!
The left and right sides have like a black film tape under the bezel holding the panel in, is that safe to cut, didnt see it on the other tvs ive done or in the video.
This seems such a common problem on LED LCD TVs, that there would be a benefit to the industry and customers if there was a diagnostic that a single indicator (e.g. the on/off indicator) could be used during boot-up to affirm the LEDs are getting appropriate signals and power. With that information one could immediately determine if replacing one or more strips would fix the display. If an LED strip failure is detected, the same indicator in theory could be used to present a code that even IDs the specific failing strip or strips. The same could be used to check the output(s) of the LED power inverter.
If one does happen to damage a fragile "buffer board" (note1)...is it a totally catastrophic failure issue, or is it an inactive component that can be fixed to a _"good enough"_ state with bonding material and/or splinting of some sort? note1: I've seen people misidentify simple mechanical strips without electronics/circuitry as "buffer boards" is why I'm asking.
If we can increase the life of the LED backlight subsystem by changing the defaults of various TV, this would be a major benefit to users. Is there a BRIGHTNESS (e.g. 50%) and/or "PICTURE MODE" (low power) and so on that can significantly increase more than a year the amount of time before the LED subsystem fails? Example: default a 65 4series TV from Walmart Model 65S41 (which I THINK is equivalent to the 65S451) came with default brightness set to 100%. However, it is perfectly viewable at lower settings.
I have the same t.v. I have replaced the LED strips, main board and the power supply board and still have no LED backlights? there is no voltage at the power supply to the LED's even though its a brand new board. any ideas as to what im missing?
I THINK it's because the directions have us cut the paper strips that secured the LED strips...so we could then remove the LED strips. The double-sided tape ensures that after replacement the LED strips continue to stay flat and properly oriented in the absence of the paper strips. (note: this is just my observation based on viewing the video)
We replaced our TCL backlights and the TV just blinks one time and still no picture. We can see words on the screen if we hold a light next to the screw. Do you have any other suggestions to try?
Did you turn the tv on after replacing the strips to see if the leds lit up? I had all the leds working then put the tv back together only to get a color screen full of horizontal and vertical lines. Then the black screen with white line (crsck). I may. have screwed up or screen was already cracked and could not see with black screen. Not my tv.
I am trying to locate the clear plastic IR beam sensor cover for a TCL 65" tv (65S421). Mine is broken and I cannot locate a replacement or even the part number. Help.
Hi I have a vizio d60-f3 and I started having problems with the picture it's got a line going horizontal about half the screen still have picture but top half of the picture is darker than the bottom half
Hi I had the same problem and I did the same thing with the flashlight I removed everything just like the video I tested all led strips there a + plus and a -negative right next to the connection red and white wire I had a led tester from jeston model DLV300 I got from Walmart for $20 bucks just be careful if you use it it does have power once you hit that red switch on it will shock you just be careful so I tested each strip found out there was one led strip bad all other strips worked so removed the strip cause it’s stuck to the frame I used a flat head screw driver or something flat that can get under and just pop up slowly cause there stuck hope it helps
How can I identify Aftron tv 55 inch?... I replaced the led and again it was damaged. What is it the problem plz? Firstly I have pictures with out backlight but second I don't have backlight and images and I can not test it the sound 📢 Plz let me know it
while this video is helpful i think it's safe to assume there are some other reason for a no backlight situation, having a professional show the diagnosis process to confirm it is an led failure and not a board component failure before doing the risky full disassembly would have been nice....
I had a hard time putting the bezel back on. I guess the screen wasnt perfectly aligned, so the bezel chipped the corner of it. It was a tiny crack, but it somehow sent it all the way down to the other corner. Upon putting it back together, the entire screen is fried. So fml. Also, it took me like 4 hours. U guess im just not too savy.
Replaced LED strips in my TCL 65s423, I had no backlight but could make out the Roku image on the screen prior to replacement. After replacement, I have the same issue. Could it be the screen and buffer boards that is bad?
Don’t do what I did. Be careful not to scratch or touch (with bare hands) the transparent screen behind the display screen. It will show when you turn the TV on now I must live with my mistake. Thankfully I saved the TV from being tossed and only paid $36 for the LEDs to fix it, and 2 hours of my time.
RECOMMENDATION: don't take you TCL tv apart to check the LED strip part numbers before you order the LED's, there is to much risk of something getting damaged while the TV is apart waiting for new LED's, just order the LED strips listed for you TCL model and wait until you get them to dismantle your tv. also be aware that there is a screen attached to underside of the outside tinted screen that you don't even notice until it's too late, if the tinted screen gets flexed to much the screen underneath will crack in multiple places and there will be no sign that anything is wrong until you fire the tv up and find out that now without a new screen your 3 year old tv with the new twice as expensive shop jimmy LED strips is junk.....
It’s actually not man just need patience and time have the right tools and your good I had the problem and I fixed and I’m not a technician you’ll be ok
Doing this right now and it is a pain in the ass. The time consuming part is cutting the LEDs from behind the paper wall .... Would rip it out like other videos, but it looks like replacing it is also just as time consuming.
