Do they still do this "race" every year? I live near Crested Butte and I'm into mtn biking. I'm of the era of this video. I remember the very first commercial mtb's.
That's my type of biking in times way back in the past, justcut off jeans, ball cap, wore what was confortable,no spandex padded shorts,or suspension, all out fun and just the basics and plenty of desire.
I want Jane Carpenter to make my next bicycle! I see no downhill wipeouts were filmed. I'm dubious that this is the whole story. Everyone that is showing an interest in riding bikes deserves the whole story.
You must be a lot of fun at parties. 😉 Seriously though, they did used to show all of the major injuries for each competitor in the X-Games, but stopped years ago. In that context, where kids are compelled to try the stuff they see on TV, I think that was actually a good idea, as they have no clue what preceded these pros making it look so easy. This, however, is NOT the X-Games! Coordination and discretion will determine a riders survivability.
this is without a doubt the best sport in the world... it's not just about riding a bike, but a lifestyle I wanted to be part of a team like capitalist hippies in love with nature and dedicated to this wonderful sport.
This is super interesting. Can someone please answer one question?. Why was the police onto the Klunkers?. The narrator of this video said "it was said that it was better away from the cops and concrete ". It don't seem like these riders were doing nothing illegal from what I can see. Well, either way, I'm very impressed with this video.
@@The_Invisible_Self of course. He says he raced _MOTOCROSS_ before it was called BMX. Before it was called MOTORCROSS it was called scrambling. It's a motorcycle thing. Not bicycle, that's the confusion I'm having.
Man. These guys are legends. I wish there were guys like this where I live. My brother Joey and I want to move outside the city and do this
The Häagen-Dazs hooters at 1:35 are great!!!
Went to the Butte for the fat tire festival in 1986, rode PP with a group that included Charley Kelly.
Historic video of the beginning of MTB bikes, cool and amazing, and the bicycles of this time are very different to the bikes of today.
Seen the whole KLUNKERS documentary.
It's easily THE best MTB doc ever made.

It’s because of the booze and the grass😂😂
Literally nobody wore a helmet in those days :D fck safety
And fck the police, concrete and cars. Wha-whaaaaaat!
They were hardly invented, back then they wore those Belgian leather strips, the ones you can see now at Eroica
I raced MOTOCROSS before it became BMX in the 1970’s, also built and sold Bicycles, NEVER HEARD OF CLUNKERS!
Did they use to call bicycle racing motorcross?
@@Whitejesselink BMX literally means Bicycle Motor Cross

Wish I could go back in time with a modern e mtb and win
Battery bikes are a weak human's only chance of winning.
Couldn't get a better thumbnail? Had to use Jeffery Dahmer...
