  • Israel has been encamped at the foot of Mount Sinai for some time.
Moses has been up the mountain and begun to receive the law from God, including instructions concerning the design and building of a tent where God may dwell, and sacrifice and service to God can be rendered.
Now at the beginning of the book of Leviticus, the tabernacle has been built and constructed, and the presence of God has descended to inhabit the Most Holy Place.
    What’s next…?
God summons Moses to the Tent of Meeting, and begins to issue instructions concerning, sacrifice, feasts, holy living and the way to worship and serve Him.
For Israel and the Aaronic priesthood, these were crucial to enter into and maintain fellowship with God, but do they hold any significance for the Christian in the 21st century?
Much underlies these apparent archaic laws, that teach us about how we should live holy lives and how God is to be worshipped.
However the true glory is seeing how God desires fellowship with His people, and that can only be accompished through sacrifice.
But whats even more enlightening is how everything within the book points to the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This introduction to the book, gives us the first insights into how Jesus is concealed in the Old Testament writings, whetting our appetite for what follows.
The first sermon in a series by Pastor Matthew Hobbs.
Teaching delivered on Sunday 11th August 2024.
