Two interesting facts about this song: 1. The intro and ending to Ohio U's Stand U and Cheer is almost identical to the intro and conclusion of the NC State Fight Song, despite the fact that the melodies have nothing else in common. 2. Ohio U. and Montana State are the only two major colleges that share both a team nickname (Bobcats) AND a fight song (Stand Up and Cheer).
@@haydenw6895 Yes indeed, Western Kentucky and North Dakota and Southeast Missouri and Alabama A&M and Grove City College and a number of other schools use Stand up and Cheer as their fight song. This far exceeds the number of schools that have adopted any other song as their official fight song. And why is that? I can't say for sure, but I strongly suspect that it has to do with the movie "Stand up and Cheer" from 1934, which used the tune as its theme song. That happened to be the first Shirley Temple movie, and likely served to popularize the song, which was written in 1909 for the University of Kansas. BTW, KU is one of a few schools (others include Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame, California-Berkeley, & Stanford) that have a large number of fight songs. I believe they still use "Stand up and Cheer," but it would be no higher than fourth place, behind I'm a Jayhawk, Fighting Jayhawk, and the Kansas Song.
