    Hello. Just wanted to let you know that because of your videos on the Merida Big Nine NX-Edition, I am now the proud owner of one! Thanks very much for taking the time to review more affordable and excellent bicycles like this. Thanks also for your thorough, in-depth review which made deciding on one really simple!

  • @taxner
    @taxner 5 лет назад +7

    Hi Sickbiker! I really like your videos! I am getting a hardtail for racing and training when my budget allows, and have been comparing a few different Hardtails. I am torn between The Cannondale FS-I carbon 5, 2019 and Specialized Chisel Expert (Alu). Both similar components and price, but one is carbon and one is Alu. My question is how is the seated position on the Cannondale, and overall how happy are you with the bike? Have you ridden a specialized epic or chisel? They share the same geometry. On paper, wich one would you chose, Cannondale vs Specialized
    Fully understand if you haven't got time to answer! Cheers anyway from Sweden!

    5:40 -- The Markhor has only 30mm diameter stanchions, according to specs on Manitou website.

    In my country the aluminium Scott Scale 950 sells standard with a FOX 32 Float Rhythm Grip 3 fork and MT500 Brakes. How does this compare to the Merida?

      @@th_js I've checked a couple websites that sell the Scott. Some just mention "Fox 32 Float Rhythm" Whilst others also state the "Grip 3". Don't know what the official name is. It does have 3 lockout settings though, so I guess that's what the 3 stands for. Seems like the Scott may have different versions for some countries. It's the 2019 version btw.

    Great video, the Merida is a nice looking bike. I bought an alloy Trek Pro Caliber as a frame and built it up with Xt and XTR . The comfort for me was the main attraction with the Is system , at 70 I was staritng to get lower back pain . The Trek solved the problem , super comfortable . It climbs better than my Cannondale Trail did so I am super happy with it. I am tempted to change to NX which I like the look of.Good luck in the race.

    Just bought a Scott Scale 950 (2019) in US and it has the Fox 32 fork as others have mentioned. I think you meant to say the "940" has a Rockshox Judy. I wish that Merida was sold here in the states because it would have been a contender for me.

    Nothing about their geometries. Merida and Scott are more compact, whereas Trek has a bit longer horizontal top tube. Also Merida has an almost old school head angle of 70 degrees.

      2x drivetrains give you more top speed and low speed, so it depends on the TERRAIN you'll be riding. So if you'll be riding somewhat flat terrain without major and LONG climbs 1x will be ok, if you will do many long steep climbs i'd go 2x. Personally I like climbing so I'm on 2x

    • @richarde1355
      @richarde1355 5 лет назад

      Was looking at the machete 120mm myself but went with the markhor 100mm for my hardtail. They were around the same price here (Australia) but the 100mm and light weight suited my needs better. I can’t fault the quality and I’ve done about 300km on it so far with about 100km being off-road and some real rough stuff including a 50km non stop xc loop.

    Tips for xc racing?

    • @jorgeduran6661
      @jorgeduran6661 5 лет назад +3

      Hey Bread I am a UCI junior and this is my second season racing. I was overweight when I began racing and the best change I have made is in my nutrition. No amount of training or carbon parts will outrun bad habits. First you should keep your nutrition in check and make sure that your body is getting every nutrient it needs to run correctly and enough rest to race correctly. Then comes training. I purchased a 7 month trainingpeaks plan which includes pre base build, base, pre race, and race week. This plan set me back about 125$ which is quite reasonable since it is reusable. Without rest you will never take advantage of your training, it sits at the top of importance next to nutrition. Proper stretching is also extremely important. I make sure to stretch every day after workouts. This is just an overview and xc racing has many more details to it but ill leave that to the experts. Kudos👍👍
