Stede being a dad of small children, and being the pirate Captain he is, defo blends well and matches up with the more human interpretation of piracy. It wasn’t all ‘no rules, just violence, drinking and stealing (and sometimes sexual interactions).’ They had a set bedtime, loot was shared fairly, no fighting or gambling amongst the crew, and the captain settled disputes democratically. If you broke the rules, then you’d get the captain’s wrath.
The fact he: chose all the flags just so no one got their feelings hurt. Reads them bedtime stories. Parents them gently. Encourages them to talk through their emotions instead of maiming each other. Good crew dad!
The crew fighting on the magical dinghy that fits all of them at once and Stede saying that he’ll turn the dinghy around if they kept at it would be HILARUOUS.
I can’t believe this is a show about a closeted man going through a midlife crisis who runs away from his wife and children to adopt a horde of queer children and meets the love of his life.
I hope Calico Jack comes back in S2 or S3 because Stede standing up to him to and telling him to fek off after he killed Button's best friend was such a great scene and I need Stede to fck Jack up properly
i want another one of eds exes to come round, a) i wanna see stede make some sort of snide remark about eds previous choices in men (cos this guy would be rank too, lets be real) and b) i LOVED the way jack was taken out and i need it to have been for real
Aw you missed the part when their on the fancy boat at the party and Ed is all upset that they were mean to him so he pulls out his gun and Stede goes, "Edward! Put that away! These are my people, I'll deal with them." Always struck me as a dad scolding his kid lol.
The tone shift on the ship after Karl is killed is monumental and so noticeable that even Ed sobers up quickly and disapproves but it really is Stedes reaction that sells that scene, everyone becomes shocked and sad but stede is angry because the loss of Karl really hurts buttons
I think his "divorced dad" talk after Ed left with Calico Jack would have been a good addition to this video.
