As someone who lives near a famous UK track (Oulton Park) and has done on and off for 3 decades, my outlook is this. You move near a race track, then expect noise. Move there after it was built and you automatically forego any right to complain. Enjoying this series Hoovie, hope ita doing well for you.
As you well know then this is not the usual view of people who move to a new house near a UK racetrack. Croft is now limited to around 40 days use a year, Mallory is limited to a set number of days, even Donington which is next door to East Mids Airport has to obey strict noise restrictions. All down to miserable cretins who moan about the noise after buying houses close to tracks..🤷🏻♂️
And don’t forget Brands Hatch. They can only use the GP loop a limited number of times a year now that houses were built right next to the circuit. A circuit that has been there a long time!
This kind of thing is a symptom of urban sprawl. When the tracks were built, they were built out "in the country" away from residential neighborhoods. Over the intervening years developers kept buying out the "countryside" and turning it into residential neighborhoods. Over time residential neighborhoods sprout up around these race tracks and zoning boards don't act to protect the existing facilities that residential neighborhoods might not like to live near when they approve the new developments. This is a story as old as urban sprawl.
Yep, exactly what's happening with the Freedom Factory now. It was built past the urban development line to keep it away from neighborhoods, now they have re-zoned it so they can build right next to the track.
We had a similar situation here where I live when a bunch of people tried to get our local airport shut down for the same reason. They thought that they had some pull with the City Council but they found out in a hurry that the FAA overrules the local government. In fact the FAA came and did their own independent noise audit and debunked every single claim that the Karen's had made.
Laguna was one of my Home tracks, young motorcycle racer back in the 80's. My grandparents lived in carmel so I got to stay with them + race!!! Love that track, raced the old layout and the new...
I grew up in Monterey/Seaside area used to camping 🏕️, dirt bike riding( w/ spark arrestor) , even ran the wildflower triathlon, Kawasaki motorcycle race class, rode mountain bikes in the hills.…. Save Laguna Seca
Even remember the Gp race where young Edward’s rode off the track onto local canyon - the grade… police had to box him in! Classic memories!😂😂😂 Scott Russell used to tear the track up! Bubba Shorbert , Kevin Schawnz etc
I live 7 miles away and by fuel there for my yard equipment often and ofcourse have been to plenty of events, ridden mountain bikes on the trails on it’s perimeter and truly appreciate the remarkable and uniquely American history at this track. It is hard to think of a more recognizable road course in the United States let alone the world, and one even recognizable to non-racing enthusiasts. I just hope whom ever adjudicates this recognizes Laguna Seca’s place in history and its importance to the area.
I heard about this situation on "Lehto's Law" website a day or two ago. Race track has put up with increasing restrictions for several years. I hope the track survives. To the opponents: "If you don't like the racetrack, why did you move to a home near it?"
What's funny about what you stated is that if I had enough money I would love living next to the track. Sort of like golfers living on their favorite golf course. I would have a season pass and a short jaunt to the track when they are having events.
One of the Oldest Airports in Ohio near Kent has had upscale houses build around it and the City is constantly getting complaints about it. From these dorks. Every time they get told that they knew they were building by a airport and the people say , That is not their problem drives us nuts
I use to live right by that same airport, behind El Campesino, Hobby Lobby, Giant Eagle. Those are prop planes…I heard them, but not a nuisance. I know the neighborhood you are talking about…those folks DID know where they were building/buying and need to just deal with it.
Why would you put houses near a race track unless you either wanted to live near it, or had a plan to shut it down buy the property and develop it... It was someone's plan all along...
Laguna Seca is such a wonderful race track. There's already a sound restriction for most events. It would be a shame to see it go away, but I'm not surprised. There have been literally hundreds and hundreds of race tracks that have come to the this demise. Most of these tracks were built in very rural areas but development encroached and residents complained. If you look up defunct race tracks in and around Los Angeles, the results are astonishing.
Cleet is has said he would make a fortune if he sells the track land to developers. But he will not sell unless he and his neighbor/buddy who owns the drag strip next door, and a new facility built and ready to go. He wants that place to run for 25 years and then give it to his son.
many tracks and airports have fallen victim to this BS....the track/airport is built decades ago, at the time far away from any residential hassle....over time farmers sell land as communities sprawl irrationally, and eventually people start to bitch about the track / airport....unfortunately most of the time these people win
I never thought the historical and incredibly fun to drive Laguna Seca could be shut down. After hearing the property is owned by the County, you will be missed Laguna Seca, what a shame.
they can only complain if they lived there before the circuit opened, if you move in next to an airport or race circuit, you paid less for your house because of it, get over it!
That's a thing around me too. Ancient shooting ranges are shutting down because people that move into the vicinity are well aware of them and then start complaining and suing anyway.
It is infuriating when people do this. Here in Wichita I remember the complaints from people who bought houses near the Airforce base and then complained the planes were to loud back when we had the B1. Or worse, the developers who built new neighborhoods right next to the city dump and then complained about the city dump. Our city dump is the highest point in Wichita, it is literally a mountain of trash. There is no way someone missed it being there. I also read about this track, one of the things that is at issue is that it slowed way down during Covid. Now it is picking back up and that is upsetting these people. Maybe we should go after their golf courses..... I wonder if it could be made a historic landmark?
To be fair, the B1 is ungodly loud. I live a few miles northwest of McConnell and I *know* when the Bone is in town. I saw a map with the audible reach of different aircraft that commonly use McConnell and the two loudest were the Bone and the AWACS, because heaven forbid we ever install the newer high-bypass engines in them, lol. It's rare enough that I really enjoy it, though. Everything on the walls rattles.
It's happening everywhere. People are buying up property in the country building big houses then complaining that their neighbors have farms and animals. In Tulsa People built big houses overlooking the Rock Quarry and complaining about the Rock Quarry. 😡 We need to build a wall around California
With the Freedom Factory they are trying to get verbiage in the actual titles of the property that states that by purchasing the property the say that they acknowledge the presence of the racetrack and the noises that they make
There is probably an alternative reason for this lawsuit, it has “nothing to do with noise from this iconic track, it’s the land they want for future development.
😂 The part of Oregon that wants to splinter off wants to be part of Idaho. No thanks. These people who I bet moved into the area after Laguna Seca was built are the same as the people who move into an area around an airport and then complain about noisy planes flying at times that bother them. I live within earshot of Meridian Speedway in Meridian Idaho and we have people who recently moved here (from California) and complain about the track noise. Karen’s!
We know you two are working in Scottsdale…. THANKS for making these ahead for all us that couldn’t make it there with you. Will love to watch you two on FYI today
I can't see this being successful. Leguna Seca is safe for historical reasons at the least. Public outcry from the racing community, many of them quite influential, will overwhelm the Karens pitiful whimpers. Than again, this is California, "Granolaland" - What's not fruit and nuts, is flakes. Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
This is happening at established racetracks all over the country not just Laguna-Seca. As mentioned, the Freedom-Factory in Bradenton Fla. is fighting urban sprawl after re-zoning to allow a tract housing project adjacent to the tract to be built on what was farmland. Here in Nashville our historic fairgrounds circle track is fighting to allow a restoration by the company that runs Bristol in eastern TN. so that Nascar will return with some limited races throughout the season. My home is about 2-3 miles away and for 30 years I've heard the races on Friday/Saturday nights, and it is actually soothing to me!
This is the same thing that may happen the Bradenton Motorsport Park ans the Freedom Factory (formerly Desoto Speedway) in Florida. The "farmland" that surrounded the tracks that was mostly never actually used as farmland is being developed into a new "community".
They've already succeeded in making bandimere speedway in Colorado sell. My worry is the next thing they're going to go after is one of the greatest music venues in the world which is Red rocks amphitheater. All because a bunch of Karen's build houses right next to a racetrack that they knew was there since it's been there since the 50s. It's a sad sad thing
I was just there during Monterey Car Week 2023. I would be so pissed if we let a bunch of millionaire Karens shut down the most iconic permanent circuits in California. The track should be a national landmark of Motorsports.
There is Nelix front and center. It wouldn't be a show without Nelix. Same thing happens around airports. They build neighborhoods around airports, then they complain about the noise.
The city of Mountain View, Georgia no longer exists because of the reverse. It was in Hartsfield-Jackson flight path, a race track occupied that space before, oddly enough...They complained enough that the EPA said, not safe to live there, gotta go, airport ain't moving.... So they got bought out, moved out, bulldozed, problem solved forever... Mountain View was also a known wild ass place back in the day...hence the real reason it is gone. Regardless, THEY always win...
Tyler, the oregon thing is actually called The Greater Idaho movement. They want to become part of idaho. As an idaho resident I don't blame them idaho is great.
I'm in the UK and unfortunately this goes on here all the time , someone moves into a house near a circuit, complains about the noise , the complaint gets upheld by the council and the circuit gets strict noise limits and limited days it can open imposed on it. Feel sad it's coming to the USA .
I used to live 5 miles from the track and people have been complaining about the noise for years. It’s ridiculous because it’s been there before they were there.
The funny part is the land the track is on, is owned by the U.S. DoD (It's part of Fort Ord). And the Land use to the county specifically states it can ONLY be used as a racetrack. The rest of the former base is now owned by the state (It's CSU Monterey Bay). The reason is it sits next to the former range at Ord... it's probably more lead and dirt now. Pretty sure it's on some toxic cleanup site. But at the time the idea was that it would be a buffer from the range and any homes. If you ever drive the "back entrance" used for the big events, there are signs saying to stay on the paved road as there could still be "unexploded ordinance" in the area. Laguna is my favorite track, and I've been out there at club events, and it's really not loud at all at these events. I'm wondering if some developers think they'll magically get that land if the track is shutdown, but like I said, it would go back to the DoD, and probably just be fenced over as a cleanup site from the Fort Ord Days...
In preparation for Track Day for the 40th Anniversary of the Pontiac Fiero in 2023, I interviewed Tim McGrane of the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, and I asked about how the surrounding neighbors reacted to the road course being built there. He said that because the site had originally been a manufacturing site for the Rapid Trucks (later to become GMC), and because the railroad runs alongside the site and must sound the train horn as the trains cross Woodward Avenue, the residents are used to noise. Additionally, the residents were involved in the planning and some of the residents ended up working at M1. That is an example of a win-win. I realize that this is a slightly different situation than Laguna Seca and the Freedom Factory, but it shows how in some cases these situations can be worked out. This same situation is causing the closing of bone yards throughout the U.S. and the crushing of thousands of old cars that will never be restored, or lend parts to a restoration. Great video. Keep up the good work.
I grew up next to an oval track where they raced stock cars. My brain is the complete opposite. I like that big thunder sound and the fireworks. Reminds me of summer. I can sleep to it.
This has nothing to do with California laws. The homeowners want to increase their property values and developers want to add houses. Same as in Florida with Cleetus McFarland's Freedom Factory.
The world will not allow this, period! We need to deep dive into the monsters behind this lawsuit! DEEP DIVE TIME! This should expose some more sinister reasons why!!!
What took them so long? On Long Island all but one track has been closed for similar reasons last surviving is Riverhead. Bridgehampton , Islip , Freeport race tracks hosted NASCAR GRAND NATIONAL with the likes of Richard Petty . Actually the very first race was held here the Vanderbilt Cup
I really think you should start broadcasting about this on your main channel to get the wave going! To few people know about this, you and Lehtos Law are the only ones talking about this very important topic. We need to save Laguna Seca! I’m a German and I understand the importance of that place!
I used to live by a dirt oval and it was heaven listening to the sprint cars every weekend from my deck. These rich people need to learn that money doesn’t buy you everything you want. Long live the legendary Laguna Seca
Happens all the time. They almost closed one of my favorite local motocross tracks that’s been around since the 60’s. Someone built a couple houses nearby and complained about the noise on Saturday/sundays
I'd bet those initiating the lawsuit or at least involved in it, or hoping in some way to cash in on the sale and development of the property once closed down. It wouldn't be the first time. Not that many developers have the funds for a California property of that size so the competition wouldn't be as much as you might think.. if I was representing the Laguna Seca I would start by doing a deep background on every party to the suit and their friends and business associates. It shouldn't be that hard to find who has the necessary resources and focus from there. Its rarely about the environment or the environmental impact, it's almost always about greed and self-interests.
It's California, the HOA has a high chance of getting their way. Crazy that the politicians want to end street racing but continue to shut down tracks.
It happened here in Kansas City,Kansas City international racetrack opened in 1966 fast forward fifty years, they built some houses by the track people complained that it was too loud and the track was put out of business
What's actually trying to happen, is Eastern Oregon, Eastern Washington, and northern California, want to become something known as greater Idaho. This is a movement that has been going on for over 20 years, the complaint is, that the cities on the coast, are determining what the rural areas to the East cannon cannot do.

This is my town. It happened at the off road motorcycle dirt bike area as well. The place has been there for decades and people decide to move in near it then complain about it.

If you buy a house near a track and don't like it MOVE HOUSE.
I heard about this one. Someone's palms got greased by the developer
Needs to be declared a historical place or a National Park.
Laguna was one of my Home tracks, young motorcycle racer back in the 80's. My grandparents lived in carmel so I got to stay with them + race!!! Love that track, raced the old layout and the new...
Bikes racing through the corkscrew , enuf said 👊🇺🇸🇬🇧
I grew up in Monterey/Seaside area used to camping 🏕️, dirt bike riding( w/ spark arrestor) , even ran the wildflower triathlon, Kawasaki motorcycle race class, rode mountain bikes in the hills.….
Can they designate it as a historical site?
I heard about this situation on "Lehto's Law" website a day or two ago. Race track has put up with increasing restrictions for several years. I hope the track survives. To the opponents: "If you don't like the racetrack, why did you move to a home near it?"
So they could play an awesome round of golf at Pebble Beach, then sit in Carmel drinking awesome shooters and sucking up each others awesomeness.
Just tell em the truth. "It IS your problem."
These people are bullies. Be a bigger bully and make them an offer they can’t refuse.
Local gun club in our town open since 1962 forced by local homeowners to close recently due to gunfire scaring residents
That's a thing around me too. Ancient shooting ranges are shutting down because people that move into the vicinity are well aware of them and then start complaining and suing anyway.
Damn
Texas or Kansas?
Where can I contribute to a legal defense fund to shutdown those pompous a-holes trying to shut down Laguna Seca (aka WeatherTech) Raceway?
It's happening everywhere.
People are buying up property in the country building big houses then complaining that their neighbors have farms and animals.
In Tulsa People built big houses overlooking the
Rock Quarry and complaining about the Rock Quarry.
😡 We need to build a wall around California
Then MOVE. people should move away. Sell the home and go to the middle of nowhere then.
The bulk of emissions are CO2. The only thing plants grow on, pretty much. And there's a food crisis already.
With the Freedom Factory they are trying to get verbiage in the actual titles of the property that states that by purchasing the property the say that they acknowledge the presence of the racetrack and the noises that they make
Nothing surprises me! We now live in a country where you are guilty until you somehow prove your innocent.
Tell me about it! The justice system is a joke.
Bull 💩 on "environmental harm".
Its just an excuse
I bought a home near the ocean. I’m suing for them to close it because my stuff keeps getting wet.
There needs to be a GREATER movement to have those Karens deported.
Blame HOA’s
It WILL happen. Florida is absolutely OWNED by the real estate industry. Florida is a grossly misunderstood state.
Karens needs to recruit African americans when they protest and say that the track is racist then the judge will likely side with them.
It's not just raceways being threatened, it's airports as well.
A male "Karen" is called a "Kevin".
Really it's from Harry Enfield & Chums...."Kevin & Perry".
If you've not seen it....give it a watch.
Tyler, the oregon thing is actually called The Greater Idaho movement. They want to become part of idaho. As an idaho resident I don't blame them idaho is great.
Except Idaho has sales tax and Oregon doesn't.
@@mexicanspec true I'd like no sales tax haha
I lived in Ontario, on the border. I never shopped on the Idaho side.@@matthewladd3427
California is so screwed up and out there I propose another wall.
No! My dog's name is Laguna, and the 9 week old puppy is now named Willow. Previous dog was Nurburgring, Nurby for short. Damn Karens. 1:42
its like suing the airport that has been there for years.
I'm in the UK and unfortunately this goes on here all the time , someone moves into a house near a circuit, complains about the noise , the complaint gets upheld by the council and the circuit gets strict noise limits and limited days it can open imposed on it. Feel sad it's coming to the USA .
I’m close to Donington in England, and I love the sounds
Move next to raceway that had been around for nearly a century, "WHATS WITH ALL THIS NOISE"
I think we should race the 787B, the LFA and the Porsche Carrera GT just out of spite 😂
I like your thinking, but lets add Lia Block driving the Hoonicorn alongside the cars you've listed.
There is No Way April approved that shirt!! 🙃🤣
I know. She’s got pit stains on it
there is a drag strip 1000 feet behind my house for the last 31 years. Never bothered me since its been here since the 60s long before me.
Meanwhile in the historic city center of Amsterdam Karen’s are complaining about the Westertoren church and her bells ringing every 15min since 1632..
You do know Tim also ran Laguna Seca as CEO for a short time too right? They let him go too soon in my opinion. He wasn't as bad as the new guy . 😅
I grew up next to an oval track where they raced stock cars. My brain is the complete opposite. I like that big thunder sound and the fireworks. Reminds me of summer. I can sleep to it.
I love how out of every image of Laguna Seca you could have picked you picked the one with the Wiener mobile. Respect
I would rule that they pay for the waste of resources and that they should move out of the neighborhood.
They will be all right. Nobody complains about living by the airport, and nobody complains about living a buy trains.
Buy a house near a race track and then complain about the race track. How liberal.
These twos conservative values are showing ❤😂
As someone who lives in the area, I am surprised that I am barely hearing about this on youtube and not from anyone in the 831 car scene.
Yep. Like buying a house near an airport...or train tracks.
Despite the logic, the track will loose eventually.
I bought a house next to a loud Airport. I sued and got the airport shut. Next up on list is suing list is Thunder.
But also imagine being rich and living next to a race track. That would be heaven.
I wonder if developers are after that property?
Cancel culture
This is the exact same crap pulled by NIMBYS near airports, factories, quarries, sawmills, golf courses.
Like the people that chose to live near an airport they know it is there when they move and then start complaining about it
I agree with April, if you don’t like it, sell your home to a car enthusiast for a huge profit and go away!
It’s private property! Lol they don’t have to follow state regulations. It’s not state land.
It's California, the HOA has a high chance of getting their way. Crazy that the politicians want to end street racing but continue to shut down tracks.
What can I say, California. Why I am glad I left.
It happened here in Kansas City,Kansas City international racetrack opened in 1966 fast forward fifty years, they built some houses by the track people complained that it was too loud and the track was put out of business
We used to hear a 1/2mile dirt track 4miles away when I was a young kid loved it.
Just be thankful you don’t live in this god forsaken state.
What's actually trying to happen, is Eastern Oregon, Eastern Washington, and northern California, want to become something known as greater Idaho. This is a movement that has been going on for over 20 years, the complaint is, that the cities on the coast, are determining what the rural areas to the East cannon cannot do.
So let me get this straight... people bought a home next to a race track and now their complaining about living next to a race track. I fucking hate people.
This is my town. It happened at the off road motorcycle dirt bike area as well. The place has been there for decades and people decide to move in near it then complain about it.
They tried this in my local area, anyone that was a car guy literally flooded the streets, just causing in general...chaos, multiple blocks became just one big takeover you literally could not drive through the town, took the local government less than 6 hours to reverse their decision.
