He saved my life when I was 5 years old. At a pool party, I slipped and was drowning. He was the first to see it and jumped in after me. He was a friend of my father's George Lloyd Christian, Jr. RIP, Don. LOVE
He is my favorite. Check out the Grand Prix Series Album (if you can get it) The Golden Horn of Billy Franklin. Just found him after years of searching. My Dad listened to him in the 60s.
@funsmell I've heard he could be abrasive. Apparently he pissed off a lot of people. I applaud his talent, can only go by what others say about him as a person. No Dale Carnegie devotee apparently. What happened in your case?
Don Goldie was the very best post-war jazz trumpeter, playing in the Bobby Hackett style - only better than Bobby. He was also a tragic figure who, in spite of his fabulous talent, never achieved much fame and ended up committing suicide....😥

Intellect, Creativity, Success, and Inspiration!
The greatest trumpet player ever
Indeed.
RIP. I met him many times in Coconut Grove, Florida, during the mid to late 1970's
Don Goldie!!!! Fantastic-swingin' player!!!!
How tasteful, smooth and great technique.
My trumpet teacher has worked with him before!! Took over for Bobby Hackett after he retired from the Jackie Gleason Band
Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o ! Thanks for sharing this great version with us ! :-)

Tasty
Great playing. Doesn't he look like William Shatner at 2:33, though? haha
Well, both are Jewish. Actually, Don died many years ago. I met him several times in Coconut Grove, Florida, in the mid-1970s

There is no piano here - just trumpet and guitar.
