I have a theory. I don't think this guy is even human. And those aren't masks behind him, those are heads of bassist enemies he has conquered from all across the universe with his thunderous bass skills🙌🙌🙌🙌🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a kid I had no idea that normal every day people could play songs like this on the bass (I led a sheltered farm life in the 70's/80's) and a friends brother was out of prison for a short stint and he could play this song and came to the farm once and I put the song on and he tuned my JC Penny Catalog bass and proceeded to play the entire song. I made him play it 2 more times and studied his fingers and when he left I spent the rest of the night recreating what he had played. BLEW MY MIND that anyone could play this song. Such a life changing few hours.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to share such a cool story. One question, was he "in" prison for a short sting, or "out" of prison for a short stint?
Wonderful. I have a Alvarez 4 string solid body. I used to be a guitarist before I crashed my red barchetta n became a bassist. I had lost feeling in my fingers coz of a fractured neck. I never got surgery but I got good at bass. I sold all my guitars over time ... 21 of them...but I kept the bass. I came to work on my old 2 stroke today listening to moving pictures. I'll be heading home early just to play my bass.
Damn! I'm a drummer and I can't quit watching these videos, you're even more impressed seeing this, so many notes but it doesn't seem like Geddy is ever overplaying and then he's singing and playing peddles...Incredible
@@TJH3113 Geddy is truly amazing. Thank you for using your talent to display one of the world's greatest bass talents (my personal favorite). I remember being a teenager and the highlight of my years (into my 30's) was getting to squeeze my way up to front row to watch him in awe do what he does (and what you do so beautifully). I'd still squeeze my way up there if there was another opportunity. Thankfully you've posted all your AWESOME videos, your tributes to great bass lines, so I can watch them. Geddy introduced me to hearing and appreciating the wonderful world of bass. Thank you for carrying the torch and doing your part in playing some of the most awesome bass lines ever (from Ged, Chris Squire, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney and even John Taylor) and recording them to inspire future bass players. I truly love your channel and have watched it hours on end. Wonderful job and thank you!
Pretty sure this album is when he switched to the Jazz which tend to have a unique sound also, a big part of it though is his right hand technique that gives that resemblance
He also has an actual Wal bass that he was gracious enough to let me play at a guitar show where he was with the guys from the zero mod thumbrest outfit. It's the red one he's using in a few of these clips a really superb instrument and the only one I've seen.
ha ha nice one...these guys talking about the Wal...that's all cool...personally I saw this tour and the grace under pressure tour, and he was using the Steinberger on that tour...I've wanted one of those ever since that night...
YAYYY!!! Happy Birthday to my RUclips bass hero!! Hope you have a great day and hearing you play this makes me just want to play my bass all day long :D This was the first Rush song (and the first song) I ever learned on bass. It's the only song I can remember how to play too...learned it incorrectly of course. You play it perfectly as always! That bass sounds freaking amazing too!
I've gotten a lot of practice time during quarantine. I couldn't imagine playing a song of this difficulty in March, but you're video helped immensely. This is my favorite Rush song, even more so now that I can play it. Ty for the awesome videos!
Well that's a good thing! Great to hear that you made so much progress. Many hours of practice is really the only way to get that to happen and I'm glad you applied yourself. Keep it up!
Had this in my head while making breakfast today but it wasn't Rush I wanted to hear - it was Troy. It's now 07:40 and I'm very happy!! Epic rendition!!
Thanks. For some reason, I got the feeling he just wanted to see an updated version of the song...I hope so anyway. I don't think the Wal really suits this material very well.
Really nice job. A friend suggested this tune as something to do as a virtual band song during the Covid shutdown. Maybe we just get you to do the bass part. Lol. Seriously, but who are the 7 nut jobs that gave thumbs down?
This might be my favorite Rush tune. I love the gaffs... the facial expressions are enough to make the video. Happy birthday and thanks as always for posting! (P.S. Sean's stuff is great. Thanks for leading me there.)
I mean it's John good because the bass sounds awesome on it's own but to give this badass crunchy single pickup tone you can see clearly how much it takes from right hand in every single note. This is great bass shit!
Amazing cover. I discovered your Chanel last year and I can't stop loving it! I dont look at the name of the songs anymore, I know every video you do is awesome bass playing. I'm so jealous of your playing. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Happy Birthday Troy... and many happy returns! Great job on one of my favorite Rush songs (especially on the guitar solo section). Thanks for sharing, as always.
This made my day!!!Fantastic as always! This one holds a special place in my heart since it is the first Rush song I ever learned to play. It's such a fun and playful piece.

It becomes even more incredible to imagine that Gedy played and sang at the same time.
Tell me about it!
At 4:05 I just shook my head....unplugged my bass....and switched off the amp.
Don't do that!
Gotta keep on learning m8
Boy!! Do I understand!!!!😳
When he does the song 'lessons' is so amazing, my favorite.
Cool!
Thank you for making that video
so the real question I have is…. How in the F#*K does Geddy Lee sing while he's playing this line. Amazing.
kayak1965 I've been wondering that for 35 years!
Just watched it again. Damn. So many ghost notes. Such an amazing bass line.
kayak1965 this guy is good, no question. Best Rush bass covers I've seen.
Don't forget playing keyboard with his feet...
He is an alien from other galaxie.
RUSH is just too kick ass. The greatest band in History.
Thanks.

God Lee are a alien.
Amazing Bass Lines in and a scary independence in play Bass , keyboards and vocals .
Incredible.
Truth!

Very cool. I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you're still playing. I hope the engine repair went well.
Will always be forever a RUSH fan...Neil will always be remembered!
Will always be one of my favourite Rush songs.
Wonderful to hear. I hope you liked it.
Happy Birthday to Neal and Troy!
Thank you.
Happy Birthday Troy. You did a fine job. Enjoy your day. You debt is paid in full. Ha! Rush on my friend Rush on!
Thanks a lot Sean.
I just threw my bass in the trash! Thanks a lot! Just kidding..........great job
just on the money as always. Happy birthday .
Thanks.
Oh man, this song makes me wanna drive in my car REAL FAST! Even the slower note part has the same effect.
Sound is spot on buddy. Smiling.
Damn! I'm a drummer and I can't quit watching these videos, you're even more impressed seeing this, so many notes but it doesn't seem like Geddy is ever overplaying and then he's singing and playing peddles...Incredible

You, me, and Neil all share the same birthday! Epic cover man!
Awesome! Thanks!
I love how doing this cover was part of the sale agreement. One of my fav Rush songs
I'm a man of my word.
Dang, it's not even a rickenbacker and it's got a close sound. Great cover by the way, always happy to see you play anything!
Thanks.
Kreaper Geddy recorded this on a jazz I'm quite sure.
@@Peterickenbacker1 whichever bass Ged used, this bass Mr Hughes is playing done a great job on replicating the tone

Looks fun to play, Very busy active bass song.

Thanks a lot Ben. I guess that's how I look when I'm playing more for enjoyment as opposed to playing for a "perfect" take.
I'm watching this video again after all these years and I realise that Geddy plays more notes along with Alex's solo...
Yeah, it was like two guitar solos for the price of one! "Emotion Detector" may be the greatest example of that.
Happy Birthday Neil and to you as well Troy! And awesome job on the strings as well.
Thanks.
Your covers are always spot on and awesome!
Thank you very much!
Happy Birthday Troy!!
