Darren Korb: "Hey glad to work with you again Ashey! This song is mainly a duet between a more midrange voice and a falsetto." Ashley Barrett: "Are you going to let me be the falsetto this time?" Darren Korb: "No."
Darren Korb is so incredibly talented. Not only did he compose the entire soundtrack (from the heavy metal shredfest of The Unseen Ones to the somber Lament of Orpheus), he also voices Zagreus, Orpheus and a side character named Skelly who all have completely different voices.
when the house of hades song picked up my jaw actually dropped because i never listened to that track so i didnt know that the combat song in the first few rooms was actually the house of hades theme lol i was like "WOAH HUH"
Also YES Eurydice and Orpheus - its a shame we got the copyright hammer on this vid because of Good Riddance but its just SO GOOD - as I mentioned after the recording there's 3 versions: originally written and sung by Eurydice, then sung by Orpheus because even if the undertone is her saying "good riddance" to him he's so enthralled by her that he'll happily sing any song she has written, and then finally the final version where they both sing it togethor. Its just AAAAH Darren Korb really is immensely talented
OH! and in the blood! The reason they are further back is because this is in effect the end credits to the main game story. So they're singing this beautiful piece but the focus is on you and the end credits sequence
Darren Korb is living proof that life is completely and utterly unfair. How can one man be that talented?! (He voices the main character too! And he does an incredible job!) Hades is just an absolutely magnificent product. Every part of it is incredible. Another couple ones really worth listening to from here are From Olympus, Through Asphodel, and (of course) God of the Dead!
It sounds like a theremin but it is actually a VST plugin. DK played all the instruments on the OST except one electric guitar featuring for the big boss music, but he's not a thereminist.
When I walked into the house of hades after a run, and began to hear the faint sound of Orpheus singing this lament in the echoing halls... thats when i fell in love with the game fully. Until then I had spent so much time trying to convince him to sing, to hear it so suddenly and so hauntingly was pure magic
Without giving too much away, the part where ‘In the Blood’ plays was made extra joyous by the song being so good. It’s a top-tier memorable video game moment for me and the song is a huge factor.
Good Riddance was amazing when you listen to their solos first and then listen to the duet. As it's been commented, you heard the first solo first and then you hear another. Then, in the game, you will have to work/grind for the duet version. It brought tears to my eyes when I finally hear the duet version in the game.
Every time i hear the Hades OST i am reminded how amazing it is! Hades 2 is just around the corner and i am SO excited to see what they do with the OST there!
I think my two favorite songs on the sound track are ones you didn’t listen to, which were God of the Dead and Scourge of the Furies. Both boss themes but I just love how they progress over the length of the song
Genuinely my favourite OST we've ever done on the channel - this was so fun and also so easy to edit because i always knew where the music changes were and where the reactions would be 🤣🤣 My Personal Favourite Game of... Ever so obviously i have some bias. But Supergiant Games always have such amazing musical composition at the heart of their games so I knew it would an amazing listen once we started expanding the kinds of games being reacted too
“Out of Tartarus” is another great piece from this OST to check out! Additionally, the other Supergiant Games OSTs are great, particularly Transistor if you want to hear more of Ashley Barrett.
Almost nothing can get me stop what I’m doing in a roguelike and take it all in. Elden Ring (which is a sort of roguelike) is packed full of visual moments like that. But this game is the only one, I think, that’s ever stopped me in my tracks to listen to a song. The first time I heard Eurydice singing it, it literally caused me to slow down, then stop, then just set the controller down and listen to the whole thing. It’s a special song…video games still don’t have the sort of exposure they should, when it comes to stuff like this. I’ve heard a dozen people or more say or write they’re playing it at their funeral…and I have been to one where it was playing. And this games only been out a couple years.
19:00 In the Blood is one of my favorite tracks from the soundtrack, they recorded at Abbey Road and got Austin Wintory to arrange and conduct the orchestra. There's a BTS video on Supergiant game's YT channel you might like!
Hades and Hollow knight are REAL treats literally had me in shumbles for months on end, I just couldn't believe how GOOD the whole osts from these two games were and how well together they tied on each other on so many emotional levels. I only have some years of music experience back from my younger years, and needless to say I was awe-struck from first second. It hit hard. Yeah they were just THAT good and more. You definitely need to do videos for the whole osts for these two in particular, many of us will watch them from start to end and have no regrets, that's for certain !! You will dig them, 100% guaranteed. Almost feels like indie music never hit this level of perfection before. Masterful music!
You can probably add Blasphemous 2 to that list now. If you haven't checked it out, Sobre Sus Costales, Corona de Siete Azahares, or Clavada are all great places to start and I highly recommend giving the whole OST a listen sometime.
The duet pair is iconic for this video game studio. Another great soundtrack of their's to look into would be Bastion. Great duets by these same two vocalists in that game as well.
I would ask that if this music makes you go 'Oh, I like it' I'd like you to listen to 'God of the Dead' and 'Unseen Ones' as boss music specifically. I can't say why without spoiling, but it's a different beast.
I know this is way after the video came out but absolutely love these reaction videos. This game in particular has such good songs in it. I never paid much attention to Lament of Orpheus before this and was stunned when I saw that it was actually the story of Orpheus and Euridice and the whole tone of it really captures the tragedy of that story. Probably the coolest thing about Good Riddance is that it's about the relief that comes with death. Such good lyrics in both songs
I would love to see you react to some more Hades tracks: Out of Tartarus, The Painful Way, Scourge of the Furies and God of the Dead will get your heart racing... 😄
If you loved this, I highly reccomend you check of Transistors OST, or any of Supergiants other games for that matter. Its Darren Korb and Ashley Barret doing the music for all of em, but Transistor in particular has so many of my personal favorites.
I love Hades a lot! It is such a fun game from the art to the voice acting and especially the music! All these themes hit so hard where they are in the game and create the perfect atmosphere for the game. I hadn't really played any/many Roguelikes before Hades and while the difficulty is tough it always feels so satisfying to play and get different boons. Just a suggestion but since you love Pokemon I think it'd be cool to hear you listen to a Digimon game's soundtrack. I'd recommend Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory as it has a good variety of songs. I've been enjoying your content and comments a lot! Keep doing what you're doing and have a great week!
Thank you so much!! My husband is a HUGE Digimon fan so maybe the time has finally come for me to ask him about Digimon OST’s 😂 Huge thanks again for the support and the kind words! 💜💜 (also you’re my first ever super thanks so this really has made my day 🥹)
I really hope we get another video on Hades. The song choices here were ask great, but I personally feel like God of the Dead and The Unseen Ones are highlights of the soundtrack (not to mention some of the best final boss music I’ve heard).
Loved watching this video. This soundtrack is absolutely one of my favorite things that has ever happened on the soundscape of music, and it was an absolute joy reliving hearing some of these for the first time again
I just discovered your channel a few days ago, and now that Hades 2 just came out (in early access), my feed has been bombarded with anything Hades related. Your reaction is awesome, and there are so much more to discover from this fantastic game ! Your mind is gonna be blown. Also, your husband might know already, but Hades 2 is out ^^ Might be a great time to discover the game with him, this time.
“No one is more excited for this than my husband” - I BEG TO DIFFER. But seriously, happy to dive into the composer described “Mediterranean prog-rock Halloween music”. Could listen to you analyze this entire soundtrack.
You know, the thing about how the sound of the vocals of In The Blood sounding "behind" the band or whatever was said, was something I never noticed until watching this. And, knowing the context of when the song is being used, it made a lot of sense as to why. I get how without the context, it seems odd, but if you ever watch or play yourself, it should make more sense. I'm sure someone spoiled it somewhat, but I'll avoid giving too much info, just in case.
Oh hell yeah, this game is one of my all time favourites. Every part of it is great, and the music is no exception! I've learned all the lyrics to Good Riddance and sign them any time I encounter the song in game
The Hades ost is so good, I love the vibes of it. Kinda reminds me of the Age of Mythology soundtrack, maybe because they're both myth/ancient greece inspired?
I'm sure someone maybe mentioned this fun fact already, but Darren core the composer of Hades is music is also the main character Zacarias is voice actor sorry I use text to speech and it hates names
TBH i look forward to their new games almost more for the new BANGER of an OST that Darren is gonna drop as much as the quality games theyre attached to. They dont miss
If you haven't already I'd recommend giving the Pyre ost a listen, it has similarly amazing performances from Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett! Korb composes for all of the Supergiant games releases so they're all fantastic
(tho u need to do scourge of the furies and god of the dead and king and his bull) (tho those are each 8 minutes long so i get it) (also in the blood is the best track in the ost so u got some gems at least)
I wasn't sure where to post this so I just went to your most recent video. I just started watching/listening to your videos and love to see your thoughts and ideas on these OSTs, especially the emotions. But I didn't find any Final Fantasy Videos. Could you please please please do some Final Fantasy? I don't even know where to tell you to start, game 1 and then on down the line? favorites from the whole series? one on epic battle music? FF14 has some great epic music? emotional songs throughout? you could do an ENTIRE video about Chocobos, don't forget about Crystal Chronicles, mobile games, even the final fantasy movie or advent children, or, or, or. There is sooo much to unpack here. If you have done Final Fantasy someone post me the links.
Loved the video! I think it’d be awesome if you listened to some of the fire emblem three houses tracks! God Shattering Star is incredible and there are so many themes that are absolute bangers so I think you’d really enjoy it 😊
Ok now... I came here randomly and.... Am.. 14k subscribers and only a 341 (mine included) likes... like.. WTF? Darren Korb is so incredibly talented. Not only did he compose the entire soundtrack (from the heavy metal shredfest of The Unseen Ones to the somber Lament of Orpheus), he also voices Zagreus, Orpheus and a side character named Skelly who all have completely different voices.
Its so crazy cause i was so convinced orpheus was just a different VA and Darren Korb just did his singing, like holy shit the guys range is insane
@@nikostyleonyomamacoochie8513 that is the case. Darren Korb is only the singing voice for Orpheus, Michael Ailshie is his speaking voice
And also composed the OST's for other SGG games. Transistor has a banger sound to it.
DUDE HE'S DOING A NICHOLAS CAGE IMPRESSION IN HADES II, THE MAN IS A LEGEND
Errrrrmmmmmm excuse me? Skelly is obviously the greatest MAIN character in all of gaming.
I especially love the lyrics of Good Riddance. It's such a somber but peaceful vision of what death brings, sad to leave but happy to rest.
when the house of hades song picked up my jaw actually dropped because i never listened to that track so i didnt know that the combat song in the first few rooms was actually the house of hades theme lol i was like "WOAH HUH"
Zagreus & Orpheus are both voiced by the composer, Darren Korb. He also sang as Orpheus too.
Actually, Darren does not voice Orpheus. He only does the singing voice. Another voice actor speaks his lines. However, Darren Korb does play Skelly.
@@treeboy7282 Darren is also pretty good at the game. I hear he has some speed run attempts under 9 minutes or something.
@@treeboy7282 And on top of all that he was the composer of that OST. Man is mad tallented.
...and Skelly!
It sounds like a theremin but it is actually a VST plugin. DK played all the instruments on the OST except one electric guitar featuring for the big boss music, but he's not a thereminist.
The jawdrop at Darren and Ashley's voices will never fail to make me grin like a loon lmao

In the Blood is an amazing feat of character development, leitmotifs, player devotion and so much more coming together in one place.
If anything, I'm surprised your husband never (lovingly) forced you to listen to music of this game, me and my partner could never
The lead instrument with the high pitched sound was a synth of a theremin, from what I can tell.
“Out of Tartarus” is another great piece from this OST to check out! Additionally, the other Supergiant Games OSTs are great, particularly Transistor if you want to hear more of Ashley Barrett.

A song I like a lot that wasn't featured in this video is Final Expense, it's the shop theme for the sytigian boatman Charon

This was such a pleasure to watch! I loved your reaction to the Lament of Orpheus; Darren Korb really knocked it out of the park with that one.

Finally a reaction to the Lament of Orpheus, one of those songs that make me cry each time I listen to it
Loved this reaction! It's also quite refreshing to see one of your reactions outside of a Nintendo game. A shame it gets demonetized.
I love how you were struck practically speechless by Good Riddance. It’s definitely an amazing OST.

When I first heard the Good Riddance duet between Eurydice and Orpheus, it literally gave me chills. Both singers are incredibly talented!! 👍
This game has such an amaizing soundtrack. Indeed, worthy of the gods. Goodbye, Father. 🔥🔥🔥
Ahhh Hades has a great soundtrack. Love the almost historical ancient evil feel it can have.
I just discovered your channel a few days ago, and now that Hades 2 just came out (in early access), my feed has been bombarded with anything Hades related.

Should give the Ghost Trick soundtrack a listen.
Me: "Omg a 22 min, probably wont finish watching"
Also me: "WTF why is the *watch next* Appearing on the screen ToT"
TBH i look forward to their new games almost more for the new BANGER of an OST that Darren is gonna drop as much as the quality games theyre attached to. They dont miss
God i adore this game's OST
That's Euridyce singing on In the Blood. She had to be in the back 😉
If you haven't already I'd recommend giving the Pyre ost a listen, it has similarly amazing performances from Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett! Korb composes for all of the Supergiant games releases so they're all fantastic
Pyre is an underappreciated gem. I get that the gameplay is a little niche, but the music is classic fantasy.
Darren korb is a genius.
YES YES YEEEEESSSS
(tho u need to do scourge of the furies and god of the dead and king and his bull) (tho those are each 8 minutes long so i get it) (also in the blood is the best track in the ost so u got some gems at least)
You should take a look at the transistor soundtrack since you like the music in hades so much. Same devs, and composer/singer

I think you'd love Sweeny todd, the demon barber songs
So sad that some of the best parts of the whole soundtrack wasn't heard.
So I feel like she needs to have metal gear rising revengance recommended to her to listen to. That game is crazy
Neat little fact is that the male vocalist is Darren Korb, the composer for Supergiant Games, who made the game.
He also voices the maij character, Zagreus, iirc
Your husband has a good taste, I love Hades and I'm waiting the sequel. 😉❤👏
ooh good pick
You need to Pikmin 1 & 2 ost
You should react to the Hades II soundtrack.
Loved the video! I think it’d be awesome if you listened to some of the fire emblem three houses tracks! God Shattering Star is incredible and there are so many themes that are absolute bangers so I think you’d really enjoy it 😊
You really should listen to more of these because this isn't all that Darren has to offer. Ask your husband for more gameplay tracks next time ;)
You love to hear Final Fantasy VII Music as well, make the video for it.
new subscriber here
PLEASE listen to God of the Dead + The Unseen Ones, it'll absolutely blow your mind
you should do bastion next
I guess ytou missed the best song of the game: The unseen ones
plsplspls more masters ost
And no The Painful Way tf
Hm, interesting.
I wonder what she thinks of God of War?
ya need to listen to the Age of Mythology ost
Good riddance have fuckedup so many speedruns for me 😅
Ok now... I came here randomly and.... Am.. 14k subscribers and only a 341 (mine included) likes... like.. WTF?
That's actually a good reaction to actually good music :\ #Underrated
@ilexemily, I don’t know if applications are accepted... but now I would really appreciate you to hear TRANSISTOR OST;
- If not all of it than at least the next 5:
- The Spine, - In Circles, - We All Become, - Signals, and - Paper Boats.
All are beautiful, all are quite heavy in message, yet light on the instruments.
All are with vocals by Ashley Barrett... And she's a Lead singer in it.
- The same authors, the same performers, electronic music, the theme is "Loss of Faith in Humanity", "Loss of a beloved" & "Lack of Cybersecurity".🐱
Unusual mix & Not at all :P
I bet you'd love it. 🐯
Cheers!
