As a single dad of 3 daughters, one of which has had a “grey haired” stalker randomly follow her home from school, show up when she’s in the underwear section of Target etc , movies like this and Prisoners etc TERIFY ME!!! one of the reasons I conceal carry and am suchh a protective dad. My daughters are my life and with that also makes things like this my absolute nightmare. As much as I’ve tried to catch this stalker and intervened at the water park when a married father is staring at my 12 year old ,..I’ve come to realize there are disgusting people EVERYWHERE and we ,..not jsut dads but everyone need to keep our eyes out to protect children /teens at every chance. I saw a Romanian Tik tok that was about a universal signal for “I’m in trouble” that kids can give in public if with a captor or something without being caught by the perp, scary to know a country has an actual tik tok for this kidnapping /trafficking scenario but it’s happeneing globally, massively even here in the US so I’m always happy to see films like this come out that hopefully bring awareness to the disgusting horrific reality parents and our children face today. Keep your eyes open everyone.

As a teenage girl I’m always scared to go out alone, I’m always scared to go out in general. Doesn’t matter if I’m with my friends or with my family, it just always irks me that grown & married men try to make a move on you when they know full well ur underage. Doesn’t matter where I’m at, the mall, swimming pool, grocery store, cinema, or even right outside my house. I’ve never felt safe, or protected. I love social media, tiktok, Instagram, etc. I love meeting new people & making friends, being social. But I’m always aware that people are not always who they say they are. They can hide behind their trendy usernames and their fake profile pictures, & that’s what freaks me out. It’s so easy to just pretend to be someone ur not. It’s movies like these which make me even more paranoid, cause I know movies like these are mostly based off of stories that really happened. And that’s what freaks me out. I’ve seen this movie back in 2020 and it freaked me out so bad I taped off all the cameras I had. My phone, iPad, etc. I didn’t wanna go outside, I didn’t wanna make friends online anymore. Cause this movie made it all so real. I like how they filmed it in like a documentary style, and not some sloppy thriller film. Makes it all the more real, and it got so many people their attention back in 2020- at least my tiktok was full of people reacting to this. Edits, awareness videos, stories. I’m just very glad this movie was made. The more awareness, the better!

Nah, it's just foul to stay locked, and well cases like these only happen in less than 1% of the time, and you have very less chances of being trapped if you haven't interracted with sketchy people, and you have other reasons to not go outside and not to make friends as this is clearly an excuse. My sister is 19 and travels alone most of the time, sometimes with her friends too, and this is india, one of the most notorious countries where girls get assaulted so you don't have reasons to feel unsafe in such a safe environment

I was sitting on my bed this afternoon looking through my options of other disturbing films I could watch. For some context yesterday I watched A Serbian Film for the first time. I'll tell you what everyone else has said, don't bother. It's pure crap, and outside of a few moments, which don't have as much impact if you find out about them before hand, it's not that special. I found myself reacting less with disgust by the events, and more like a disappointed parent. After that I watched a film entitled Sweet Movie, honestly I can't get into it here since this comment's already turned into an essay, and it's a whole can of worms itself to be opened. i'll just say, I'ts not dark in the typical " Fucked Up " sense, more just weird and almost like a fever dream you'd have on shrooms. Needless to say it will be burned into my memory for years to come, and at Forty I'll find myself sitting on my couch reading the paper, and all the sudden I'll wonder why I'm having flashes of a nude women bathing, and then drowning herself in chocolate, but I digress.
So I didn't want to pick another big film, since I still needed time to properly build myself up, and time to get Sweet Movies bizarre taste out of my mouth. So I was scrolling through, and suddenly the title Megan Is Missing came up, I'd remembered the poster from previous months, and thought it might be a nice smaller break of pace, (Yeah really kicked my own ass with that one). So I started to watch the film. I immediately found myself in a more seemingly recognizable area with the look and feel. Actors who were older than they were said to be, (they're obviously 18 not 14, not that I don't understand why this is done in film, and it's nice there not twenty-five for once), a small scale budget with fidgety camerawork, and supposedly "true events" which are just a collection of real life equivalent's smashed together with fake victims to fill the gap. So I sat back and prepared for the usual found footage film, with perhaps more gruesome death scenes. I let my guard down, (much to my own downfall), and wasn't put off by the slow start. It all seemed fairly typical for the premise. The acting was good for what they had, and the characters were decently likable and acted realistically. As time went on I felt a sense of respect for the directors ability to make the story so engaging while remaining slow paced. Once Josh was introduced I felt this respect heightening. I liked the subtle things an adult could pick up, that a kid wouldn't. Things like the voice and how obvious it was being faked, and was an older man's, the slight manipulation of the girls feelings so he could sway her to do as he wished, and the casual pauses indicating him trying to come up with answers to questions he would have known easily if he was who he said he was. This combined with the fact that, while the choices of the character were often very stupid, they still made sense, given her shitty life, and history, plus her impressionable age, and the time period the film takes place in. As the film went on I felt a sense of brotherly care for the girls, and wanted them to be okay. Another thing that I enjoyed was the character of Amy, and how much I connected to her struggles with social interaction and loneliness.
By the credits however my jaw was on the floor, and I couldn't speak. I just didn't know what to think. My emotions were in battle with each other, and no side backed down. I didn't understand why I had such a hard time with this film. But now that time has gone by I've managed to get a lid on the situation and I can better see where my emotions came from. Although I still think recovering from this film is going to be quite a challenge. I've come to realize that the film's realism is what made it so hard on me. A part of my brain was always able to recognize that all the other films I'd seen were purely the product of fiction, no matter how real the characters felt. But the style of this one was so raw that it was outright impossible for my brain to feel real danger from the events on screen. While I know the people in this film are actors, and the women in it are alive as of right now, this is something that happens somewhere everyday. Somewhere right now as I write this a real girl or boy is tied down in a dark wet basement, cold, hungry, scared, and likely confused. They're likely being beaten and raped, without clear reason, with no strength to fight back. How many parents right now are reeling at the loss of their child, praying that they're still alive, and someday they can see each other again. The very thought makes me ill. I hear all the time in news about kids disappearing and never being seen again, or their bodies being found ten years later in an outhouse, or buried next to a canyon. Sometimes they'll be found alive over a decade later in the fuck that took them's house, or shed. You think to yourself, how weird must it be to see the sun again? Would they still remember their parents, or would time have convinced them their family was just a strain of self made memories designed to make them feel safe when they needed comfort? With how long they spent in that torment, what would change? What if they were so young they don't even understand it was wrong, or wasn't normal? Most of all, how much abuse and torture did they endure? With so much time spent in hell bending to a disturbed person's will, how would they ever come back from it? The thoughts race through and make you want to grab someone you love, and hold them so close you can hear their breath and never let go.
This film has changed me. I'm normally a very forgiving man. I can see things through the eyes of another person's perspective, (At least somewhat), and while I never condone their actions, I often feel pity for them. But the man in this film is a representation of someone you couldn't forgive. Obviously it's different when the victim is someone you love, especially someone you're responsible for protecting. But in the end, the reason I can't forgive him is because, it's obvious he doesn't even try to stop himself at all. Some pedophiles, or murderers try to stop themselves, or feel guilt for what they do. But not this guy, he just doesn't care, he shows nothing, and feels nothing. If I were in his position, and I'd tried everything to stop myself but just couldn't, I'd put a gun in my mouth, long before resorting to what he does. Burying someone alive is probably the most horrible way to kill them besides burning them to death, or skinning them. Because you leave them feeling hopeless, and just wishing you would have finished them off quickly so they could be free of the dread.Plus being stuffed in a tiny plastic barrel with your dead friends rotting corpse touching you and starring at you with it's horrifying dead face, night be it's own personal hell. My skin crawls at the idea alone. I'd honestly rather be Megan in that situation, because she was already dead and likely didn't even know he planned to kill Amy next. It's apparent to me that if I ever met this character or someone like him in real life, I wouldn't hesitate to beat them to death. I also have to give props to the actor who played "Josh ". To play such an appalling character, and knowing people will see you do it, and will likely connect your voice to a monster like him, must be near impossible. I will say this film is effective in its point. While I think that this idea has been better controlled lately due to new technology, and the internet existing longer, that doesn't mean that it doesn't still have merit. In the end this is an effective representation of a horrid reality of our world, much like "Kids" was in its day. So while I'll never watch this again, I will never forget what it taught me. Like a teacher I hated, but still learned from and respect for their wisdom. So thanks for the reaction, and if you got this far into my uninteresting BS, then you deserve a medal, (Or maybe some ice cream). Treat yourself, after all you'll need it after watching this film.

This movie was dark. A bit exploitative and not the best quality, but maybe a wake up call for some...? 🤷🏻‍♀️ We're in a different age of online predators as compared to a decade or two ago. People are much more aware, but young people are still so vulnerable.
I also fully agree with you about the loss of youth happening at younger ages. I enjoyed the hell out of HS, but definitely didn't engage in behavior this reckless, nor did my group of friends (boomer comment, I know). I just hope this level of dysfunction doesn't seem normal to kids. 😵‍💫

The moment they showed Megan's body in the barrel scared the sh*t out of me. I was not expecting that at all.

No one wants to think about these situations, let alone experience them. Sadly we read many stories about abductions, but honestly it never hits home until you visually see it happening, whether its a movie based on a true story or a movie based on many victims story. So many young girls/boys don't think this could happen to them, they may read about them in the news or a conversation about a missing young person between young kids, but they still don't get the just of the severity. People are against movies like this, but honestly I think many young people should have to watch this horrific kind of movie to make them realize this is real and they could be a victim if not careful. Sure parents can monitor online activity but we ALL know that parents don't know everything and everyone they talk with as much as parents would like to think. Yes, parents need to protect their children but these young people need to see reality not just hear or read about it to scare them into not making mistakes with people online even if they seem caring and like your best friend...

i just watched this full movie and, it is not so much scary as it is just gut wrenchingly sad and disturbing. it isn't based on a true story, but is inspired by events that can and do happen irl. so while there may or may not have been an actual Megan and Amy, the many girls who went missing irl are the Megan and Amy's, if that makes sense. i could have easily become a Megan or an Amy back when i was their age. i used to go into chatrooms, and talk with online strangers. when i got older, i of course looked back and went "phew. glad nothing came of that." but this movie really put into perspective on what could have happened, had i not been so lucky. this is why i will not allow my kids unsupervised internet access until they are 18 years old. i will drill into their heads over and over the dangers of talking to strangers at all, whether it be online or irl, because i nearly got abducted in broad daylight when i approached a stranger who was crying in front of Dollar General. i was out for a snack run, saw a guy crying, and asked him if he was okay. he nearly dragged me away from there, but i was able to get away. this world is a scary place

I’ve listened to a few reviewers say that the party scenes and the overall attitude and promiscuity of the teens isn’t realistic and that this movie is shit because of it.
When I was 13, I was a lot like Megan. A lot of what I saw her character go through and the revelations she makes made me so incredibly sad because she didn’t deserve to die the way she did. I know it’s a movie, and that the actresses are alive and well, but not only was I like Megan, so were my friends. So were 2 that went missing when we were 13. Did something like this happen to them? They’re questions I’ll never know the answers to, but watching this movie made me sick because it hit too close to home, it’s too real. Thankfully I made it out of that snake pit. I’m 28 now but Amanda and Mireya will always be 13.
