Purchased this unit recently and had it sent to Australia. Works extremely well and does everything as described. I have now removed the gear train from the lathe which also makes it run much quieter. I used a 180w servo motor with a gear ratio of 3 to 1 in place of a stepper and it is perfect for the job. Excellent product thanks for your work.
Installed mine and works as planned. Nice little controller. Now I have fully adjustable Z-axis feed and can make any thread without gear change wiht my NOVA 25L mini lathe (250/700mm) On my setup 600 pulse/rev encoder is with 1:4 reduction because this was easy way to connect to gearbox output shaft. But seems like 1:4 reduction is OK, no problem so far. Maybe I lose some accuracy on Angular mode, but that's not important mode for me. Question and UI improvement idea: I have not tested what will happen if I accidently hit + or - button during threading operation and change the picth setting? Will it lose thread sync? It might be good to add some safety function into UI, something like this: While on thread mode, +/- buttons needs long press before pitch value starts to change. This would prevent accidental pitch change if you press wrong button while threading. Same when on Angular mode, RST button needs long press before angel is reset. Normal feed mode +/- should function imminently when pressed.
This works great. I have a 10 inch logan that does not have a qui k change gearbox. I bought this from you some time ago. I just recently got it installed and im really impressed with the accuracy this provides when threading or matching cutting speed while turning. This was way cheaper than trying to find a gear box. Merci
I recently bought one!!! I can't believe how well it works. I have a 1936 BoxFord Lathe model A, that had some damaged gears in the Norton gearbox This solved the whole problem. I installed it with a nema 24 closed loop stepper motor 1500 rpm with a ratio of 1:3 works super well. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.
I bought one and it was easy to install and glad to get rid of the gears in my Warco mini lathe. Used a DM556 Stepper Driver and Rtelligent Nema 23 stepper Best upgrade for a small lathe. merci beaucoup.
The easiest way to understand metric/imperial pitches is to convert all imperial pitches to metric and then do the sums to get as close as the pitch you want to have.....a pitch that is .02 mm out over 50mm will not cause a problem if you want to have a short thread and most threads are short anyway.......the ELS system for odd pitches with different leadscrews is an approx of the pitch required but quite a small unnoticeable error overall.
Beautiful! Are you planning to add functionality for a second stepper motor (for cross slide drive)? Then it could be really automatic. You would just need to add menu items for depth of cuts, final depth and a spring pass or two. I would like that!
I have been working on the 2 axis unit all this year, it is really not as simple as the 1 axis, at least the way i see it. It should be available in a few months.
Bonjour, Très intéressant comme système, Quel est le pas maximum que l'on puisse faire ? Pour faire une rainure de graissage elliptique sur un palier ? Merci Antoine
I am in the process of installing this on my little lathe. As the control box is fitted with a socket for your use, would it be possible for you to reprogram the controller if required or further developments by you. If so, could this be carried out over the internet or could we return the control box to you. The unit is connected up and working, all setting up completed and everything worked first time with no problems. It’s now up to me to get comfortable with selecting the correct program to do what I need. Looks like a good controller, thanks Roger
My apologies, sadly that's the limit of my French. Is the controller for sale? If so where? You have explained how to set it up very clearly. I am sure there would be a lot of interest.
I have the old version on my lathe. To upgrade to the new one do I have to buy not only the new control box but also the electronic device for the encoder and steppermotor?
No, this control box can replace any other ELS, mine or any from other manufacturers without modification on the driver, stepper motor, encoder or power supply. Just replace the box.
Hi I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with there ELS only working in turning mode, I can not get mine to work in test, or threading mode. If the driver is not compatible would it work in any mode? Any ideas would be appreciated
I have ordered a stepper motor package consisting of a Nema 24 closed-loop-stepper-motor-4-0-nm-566-56oz-in-encoder-1000ppr-4000cpr-24hs40-5004d-e1000 with a CL57T driver and a 48V power supply. Is your controller compatible with these, and will I need a separate 5V power supply? I already have an Omron E6C2-CWZ6C 360P/R which I intended to use.
Yes, it is compatible with CL57T, pay attention to set the dip switch at 5v for the signal, it is set at 24v by default. No, you do not need another power supply, the ELS support from 9v to 48v dc input. Your 360P/R omron encoder is fine, it is the minimum possible in the parameters settings.
@@electronicgearbox My Omron E6C2-CWZ6C encoder also has an orange wire for Z output. Is this wire not used when connecting to the controller? Thank you.
Howdy, I have installed your ELS unit and love it. I have it installed on a PM 1130V and located your controller where the original RPM read out was. One question I do have is when I am turning but have the unit set to thread with a length of 4 inches it will only run for about 2.5 inches, however doing the same with my machine in thread mode it will run 4 inches. Is this something you could address with a software update. Thanks
Hi, not sure I quite understand the problem but I will test to make a semi auto thread of 4 inches to see if can I can reproduce it, I will contact you directly
I think I know the issue. I have two lead screws, one for threading and the other for the power cross slide/power compound. I have your controller in thread mode but I have my machine in turn mode which drives the shaft for the power cross slide. In my machine which is a PM 1130V, I’m thinking the drive ratios are different between the threading lead screw and the shaft that drives the power cross slide.
Is it possible to add the function to do automatic feed like automatic thread? I find it useful to turn a specific length and specify the exact moment to stop. In this way you dont have to disengage the half nut in critical situation when there is a risk to crash. Thanks
Automatic thread is the same as automatic feed except it knows when to start. You can use this function for turning too. Another option for you is to use the hardware stop switches.
Does the semi auto screw cutting work when cutting imperial threads with a metric leadscrew? Great project. Does it have a link to the lathe emergency cutout?
Hi, yes it does cut imperial thread with a metric leadscrew No, there is no link with the emergency cutout but i do not see any interest. If the lathe stops, the encoder will not send any pulses and then the stepper motor will stop at the same time.

Hi, yes it is possible
What is the minimum feed rate? I see in the video it defaults to 0.004''. This is a little fast for finishing.
For imperial, you can go down to 0.0005". For metric 0.01mm
Super invention merci !
