      Yup. Especially considering that even neighbouring countries may differ greatly in language and culture. And then we are not even talking about nations that are "far" from each other, like say Iceland and Greece...

      Not to mention, the rail company does in fact care enough about this issue that if an escalator or lift is broken somewhere on your route, it will show this fact in your travel planner app. As much as I'd sometime wish repairs could take place with some more urgency, nobody can say they just neglecting accessibility if it is even explicitly embedded in the information infrastructure people use to plan their trip.

    Canadian here. I've actually had an American come up to me on the streets of my town and say, "It's the fourth of July, why aren't you celebrating?". Playing dumb, I asked, "What would we be celebrating?". He said it was Independence Day. Okay, I said, but that's a holiday in the United States, and this happens to be Canada. And then I asked, "Do you folks celebrate July 1st?". No, what is July 1st, he says. Well, it's Canada Day, our independence day. On July 1, 1867, the Dominion of Canada was formed. Basically Canada became a country. He just walked away. I think I stunned him with actual facts.

    About the section from the "spherically challenged" person. That is the train system in the Netherlands, and I can confirm:
    Yes, the seats are fine for average sized persons, and even overweight people.
    There is always a wider entrance gate for wheelchair users, other handicapped people, or even users with a lot of bags.
    There is always a lift at the station to get you to the platform, again for the same category people.
    And yes, the escalators are broken on purpose.... 😂
    If you are so much overweight that you call yourself "spherically challenged" and cannot fit in a normally sized chair, then you are considered to be handicapped in The Netherlands, and can get medical help to deal with your problem ... for free.

    I once argued with this guy who's american in a comments of "martial art vs bodybuilder" video.
    In the argument, this guy stated that martial arts are "useless and innefective for self-defense and a waste of time". I told them not necessarily because it has been proven on multiple occasions that it does work and that there are other benefits that we could get. Then he started saying "just use guns". I countered by saying that it would only benefits americans since most countries in this world doesn't legalize guns for civilians, also, most countries outright banned civilians to carry potentially lethal weapons even if it's for self defense. So my point still stand that martial art is still needed and could be effective.
    Now, i don't know if he didn't read that part or was he just ignorant. Because he just said, "Here in this country we're allowed to" and saying stuff about sam colton and how greatful he was, as if those statements would counter my argument, in a way it does by making me realize that there's no point in continuing this argument further. I stopped arguing with him after.

    In 2022, archaeologists in the country of Georgia discovered a significant 1.8-million-year-old early human tooth (a molar) at the Orozmani site, near the famous Dmanisi digs, providing crucial evidence that the South Caucasus was one of the first areas occupied by humans outside Africa, likely belonging to Homo erectus, challenging old migration theories. This find, along with earlier discoveries in Dmanisi, makes the region a key hub for understanding human dispersal from Africa.

    About "normal American numbers", I recently saw a _(satirical)_ post that said the New York City Mayor _Zohran Mamdani_ planned to mandate all New York elementary school students to learn *"Arabic numerals"* and a lot of people freaked out, saying things like _"No! Not on my watch! We must protect our children from forced cultural change!"_ and _"Islamification of New York begins! What's next? Islamic call to prayer?!"_

      False. There's no single inventor, but ancient Indian mathematicians developed the base-10 place-value system (with zero), which Persian mathematician Al-Khwarizmi popularized in the 9th century, introducing it to the West. Later, Islamic scholars like Al-Uqlidisi (10th century) and Al-Kashi (15th century) refined the system, introducing decimal fractions and the decimal point. Flemish mathematician Simon Stevin further popularized decimals in the 16th century, but didn't invent the system itself.

    I was in line at a museum in Dublin this past fall, an American family, Mom, Dad, Grandparents and 4 kids in front of us, while Mom demanded a senior discount, and baby discount for her family, Dad was trying to read a sign, his little daughter asked him what it said, bless his heart, he tried to sound out the words, them gave up saying it was a foreign language he could not read. The sign said, "please queue here for the Viking museum entry" I felt bad for that little girl. After the Mom was done yelling at the attendant, yes, yelling, the whole family moved on. The attendant said she had to go on break after that encounter. Some people should now travel.

    'Military time' is on of many things Americans say thats so annoying. Its the 24 hour clock as there are 24 hours in the day. The military has nothing to do with why so many of us use that format.

    • @DisplacedQuine
      @DisplacedQuine 2 months ago +5

      It avoids confusion so is used in so many places, such as bus, rail and air timetables. In the UK, children understand it by the time they leave primary school. All my digital clocks are 24 hour, analogue twelve.

    • @oldmomma
      @oldmomma 2 months ago +1

      Military brat here and yes the 24hr clock has a lot to do with military. If youre in a missle bunker or a sub in the ocean how do you know day from night on a 12 hour marked clock? You dont..a 24 hr clock lets you know day from night. My adopted father was in Navy and I was about 8 yrs old when I learned military time. Computers also use 24hr clocks to differentiate between day and night functions in coding. My favorite clock is a day clock its movement shows day of week. My aunt had one and Ive seen online them and would love to have one. Now I dont care time its sun out or dark, I live rural on a far and my animals set my day although some roosters in our area seem to be confused with morning due to idiot folks keeping floodlights on their houses. I remember in the 60s being told we needed to learn metric in US schools until I moved abroad I never needed it unless I was using a tool on a foreign built car. Now its all I use and celsius and grams and kilos I struggled to learn in my 50s but hey google it and I can cook or sew just fine. Half my day im in my family's tomorrow and my granddaughter born this week I went to my clock setting to see had they passed midnight as we dont do time change of fall and spring either. And calling a bill a dinar not a dollar took me few years. But it was the arabic numbers idiots that really showed how clueless we are to outside USA. I now have friends on many continents thanks to internet and past 15 yrs has really opened my eyes to the bubbles we all live in.

    • @noodlechild666
      @noodlechild666 2 months ago +16

      @oldmomma Im not reading all that, but just because the military uses the 24 hour clock doesnt make it 'military time', does it? Which is what Americans claim; probably because counting over 12 is too hard for them.

    I love how people in the USA say "4th of July" (putting the day of the month first, then the month), but write it as 7/4. The month/day of month/year scheme that people in the USA use is INSANE! YYYY/MM/DD is the most practical way, and DD/MM/YYYY is good too. The USA adopted what is easily the WORST way to express a date. I guess it matches their system of weights and measures perfectly.

    • @Z3phyr1992
      @Z3phyr1992 2 months ago +16

      I disagree on YYYY/MM/DD being better than DD/MM/YYYY - In most situations and conversations the year doesn't really matter so it makes sense to put it last. Still a better system than what the Americans use though.

    • @Eyedunno
      @Eyedunno 2 months ago

      "The fourth of July" is interchangeable with "July fourth", and generally when we see a date--and let's use something else where the date itself is not used as the name of a holiday--like 12/21/2025, it will be read as "December twenty-first, 2025". This is the default way of saying it out loud, and spoken language affects the numeric date format. You *can* say "the twenty-first of December, 2025", but it sounds more formal or ceremonial (hence "the fourth of July" being what most people say instead of "Independence Day"). (Also, we absolutely *never* say "twenty-one December".)
      And yeah, it does seem illogical not to follow an order from more specific to less specific or vice-versa (e.g. 2025/12/21 or 21/12/2025), but in practice, we don't actually say the year that often, so it can almost be treated as an afterthought.
      tl;dr 7/5 is not read as "the fifth of July" but as "July fifth".

      And their system of weights and measures are based on the imperial system, which uses the body measures of some long dead king. Every time someone in the US uses feet and pounds they're reminded that they were a british colony.
      Meanwhile the rest of the world uses a system created by revolutionaries who wanted to get away from monarchy and despotism. They not only implemented a different form of government (democracy) but also a different system of measures.

      @CharlyHoppenstedt The formula is pretty basic, but the division by nine somewhere in there makes it a bit awkward. From Celsius to Fahrenheit is a bit easier.

      and they refuse to switch to metric, even though it's based on series of 10, which they could count on their hands if needed. I know....
      They also believe the US is not a 'warlike' nation, despite having been at war for 93 of the last 100 years. They just believe they're the good guys and everyone else is backward

    • @apveening
      @apveening 2 months ago +2

      @Defhrone Once you know how, it is pretty easy to count to 12 on the phalanxes of the fingers of one hand, using the thumb as index. Base 12 does have its usage (though I prefer base 10 and base 16).

      I just the other day watched a YT video about Americans wanting to move away from the US. One lady posted that it would be good if many Americans would move to Europe to teach them how to build an empire and to make Europe more American. And that would e great for Europe. 😳 I replied to her that no European country wants to become American and that no American should try to change European habits, laws, culture and mentalities to US American! I also replied that the American should keep their cults and brainwashing in the US!
