I had a request to make a video about how I restring my 12-strings. I’m not saying my way is the best, but this is how I do it. I share some ideas I’ve learned over 40 years of playing them. I hope you find it helpful. Видеоклипы
Check out my new 12-string album-

I've done it for awhile and you showed me some things I was doing wrong. Thanks
You are way more competent then the first video I watched at tuning a 12-string acoustic guitar.
26:33 Because that High G is a Step below the Tenor Guitar High A, they recommend tuning it slowly. It has to be thinner than the High E (let's say an 8) to keep the tension down. Why not try Thomastik Plectrum Bronze Extra Lights? These ones have silk wound around both ends to protect them.
The lighter gauges means you can tune up to E Standard under a low tension
Replace each string with the new one, loosely, so that you know you are putting the proper string where it belongs and you do not have to count when they are all out. Use a kitchen fork, metal or plastic, to remove the pins,. You can even put a piece of cloth on the bridge when using them to pry.
Thanks for sharing the tips.
9:38 Years ago you used to use Mediums on this Guitar & tune down as low as C#, but this time you're not doing that anymore we'll go down to a lighter gauge of strings so we can tune as high as E Standard.
Hi Oscar! That’s amazing you remember which tuning I used on that guitar. I have been doing less downtuning lately. At most I tune down a half-step lately. Most of my recording work has been in standard tuning.
@@GWGuitarStudio Why not try Thomastik Plectrum Bronze Extra Light 12 String Guitar Strings? They're wound w/ Silk at both ends to protect them & there's layers of silk between the windings to make them feel softer. They give you an epic 12 String Jazz tone.
@@RockStarOscarStern634 I’ll have to try them out. Thanks.
@@GWGuitarStudio These strings are rather interesting cause they have a .008 String that's specifically designed to tune up to a G4. Keep that bridge & nut lubed up w/ pencil graphite to help them slide more smoothly. The Silk windings that are on both ends of the Wound Strings on the Thomastik Extra Light Plectrum Bronze Strings (You can get them w/ either Tin Plated Trebles or Brass plated Trebles) should keep them protected.
The High G is a step below the High A on a Tenor Guitar.
A neat trick to keep the strings from breaking is to keep the bridge & nut lubricated w/ pencil graphite.
Just got me a 12 single Japan made acoustic guitar. Took me a hour just to string and 4 days to get it to keep half tune. Same strings you used, It's my first acoustic in 20 yrs. Having fun with it, kinda enjoy the extra sounds since I've been more a electric man since I first got back into the game. Waiting to order a cheap electric 12 string to play rocksmith 2014 on, see if the game messes up or not.
Stretching ur strings will save ur life man.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Good stuff. What pick do you have in the guitar? Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.
The pickup is an old Schaller. I don’t use it very often. I bought the guitar used and the previous owner had it permanently installed. It sounds good, but I prefer Skysonic pickups. I have a 6-string Alvarez that matches this 12-string and it has a Skysonic in it.
So, I tune in - hooked by the thumbnail of a sweet double f-hole (arch-top?) overstrung acoustic - that could be a 12 string....
But instead we get a jumbo.... [sigh] 🙄
Sorry! I’ll have to do a video about that guitar.
Sorry! You can hear that guitar on this video- ruclips.net/video/zeej9fY4RuU/видео.htmlsi=fhsFdA-qFjpC6KLz
