Actually none of these would work on the super nes. That's our nostalgia talking. What you're seeing really is a timeless art style and fun video games that can even be played decades from today. Not like the PlayStation polygon style which is severely outdated by today's realistic 3D systems. These 2D games are combined with such 3D systems if you look at the particle effects and lighting, that's simply not possible to code in purely 2D engines. Also the super nes games aren't playable today as they had severe limitations on animation frames, sound and VFX that today's games are no longer limited by but can be created by very few people in a matter of months to years thanks to the amazing tools we have today that was simply not there a decade ago. Doesn't matter how realistic or cinematic games look. The AAA corporations are stuck making such games for decades, and Indies figured out that we don't have to wait anymore. These types of games are most likely gonna stay forever simply cos they're fun to play.
@@InternetSenation I didn't take anything literal. Was just talking about the SNES influence these types of games share. And who are you anyway? Literally nobody was talking to you lol
@Vican to be honest... the vania part was more that Sotn was a fairly recent game at the time the term was coined. The conventions of the genre were all created by metroid. The genre should be called metroidlike ou metroidlite. The only mechanic castlevania brought to the formula was not even a new mechanic, that being the rpg elements ( basically levelling up and equipment loot) ,which most new games in the genre don't utilize.
Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth was way too short, way too easy. And it's a very fun game, as well, wish it would've put up more of a fight. Very good experience though.
@@Y4manata I know, it sucks, you talking about Luna Nights? Cuz that one was good as well, but also short. There's been a bunch of quality games that are extremely short, and I play through them so quickly that I forget about them. It does nothing but hurt the game and company, I don't get how Symphony of the Night is still one of the biggest 2D platformers of all time, there should be a bunch of Metroidvanias just as big or bigger. And I play most of them, even the larger ones don't feel as huge. And for these short, quality games, even though I've only bought DLC once in my life, I would actually buy DLC for the good games if they made a new map or something. If they were rushed and forced to put out a shorter game(but still made a good game), why not make some more levels and extend the experience?
The Record of Lodoss definitely captured that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night feel to it! Really polished everything it came from, down to every minute detail, really.
I friggin loved Aeterna Noctis! Played it on Series S. Had some performance issues on Xbox One so I’d wait for a switch review before buying it on that platform when it releases.

@@Rockyrodents Currently working on the way this style of metal is supposed to sound, along with the design of his guitar, his second weapon. It's called an "Infinite Frequency Manipulator", or IFM.
