Just like me. I learned some exploits, like the starcut in Kalimari Desert, the unintentional backtrack cut in Frappe Snowland and the hard, but fun cut in the very start of Wario Stadium. Out of all the shortcuts in my childhood game I’ve seen/learned of, Rainbow Road’s was the only shortcut that I think is not worth taking.
