    As an Egyptian born and raised in Cairo, I don't know why so many tourists choose to stay longer in Cairo!! there are other cities that are much more adventurous and are not as noisy as Cairo. Almost all cities on the red sea, Aswan and Siwa have different vibes and lots of things to offer.

    • @Gventures

      I find that many people from big cities enjoy quieter places. I am not from a big city in the US and enjoy large metropolis cities, hence I have chosen to live over the years in NYC, Sydney, Ho Chi Min city (Saigon), and now Cairo. I like the chaos and activity, the many choices of things to do and places to go. Siwa was beautiful and I plan to return there for a visit, and I am planning to visit Aswan early next year, but for living? I like big cities, at least at this moment in my life.

    Hello Giselle, awesome!! I liked the way you have informed us about the night life in Cairo. I did not know about the places ( bars) to drink alcohol.... hahaha... now.... next time in Egypt I want to go to those downtown bars ....usually I was drinking alcohol in international hotels. Love Stella and Saqqara beers. Yes, effectively, Cairo night life is amazing. I enjoyed it.

    It's not an underground society at all. Not sure why you wanted to show it that way, as you chose that bar in particular (elhoreya). I drank, openly, in tens of bars and clubs all over Cairo, Alexandria and needless to mention the resort cities: Sharm and Hurghada. Just saying. But good material over all. Also I suggest you drop by Fifth Settlement and 6th of October. Quite modern and shows a different face of Cairo. Cheers!

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Год назад +2

      Uh, I didn't present it as an underground society. I just get asked by foreigners ALL THE TIME if drinking is legal in Egypt, so I wanted to make a video showing that yes, it is legal, and easily available, and there is a nightlife in Cairo. It's not widely popular or approved of though, like I also said in my video. I am comparing it to the west, obviously, where many of my audience/viewers are from. The drinking/bar/party culture in places like USA, Canada, Europe, in fact MANY other countries, is much bigger, more popular, and much more open. People can wander around the streets drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages legally, and that isn't so in Egypt. That is just the way it is, there is nothing wrong with it. I think maybe you are interpreting what I said in my video a bit differently than what I actually said. Also this video was just about Cairo, not the resort cities or coastal cities

    One of the reasons we left Egypt 60 years ago, is because of the problems between Christians and the majority Muslim population. How are the relations between the two religions groups now? What is your impression? I am Coptic, have you been to the Coptic part of Cairo yet? Can you also show the el Dokki neighbourhood where I come from? I live vicariously through these videos of Egypt. Thank You.

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  Год назад +3

      I don't know too much about the relations between Muslims and Christians other than they don't seem to have issues from what I have seen. My friends are both Muslim and Coptic Christians and friends with each other before I even knew them, there are churches right next to mosques, etc. But there may be a lot more I don't know about or things that aren't spoken about, I know some history where it was not always so friendly but it seems a sensitive subject and people just say they get along and are all Egyptians and brothers and sisters, I don't push the subject so I can't elaborate too much more on that subject. It seems fine now.
      I have been to Coptic Cairo, but (at least the area I have been in) seems to just be historical buildings and lots of tourists visiting the area for that. There seems to be a more dominant presence of Christians (in my opinion) in Mansheyit Naser (and in Garbage City in particular within Manysheyit Naser), I saw a lot more signs of Christianity there than I did in Coptic Cairo (women not wearing hijab, crosses on buildings). I actually live in Dokki but don't like to film in my neighborhood as I like to keep my life private and not announce to the neighborhood what I do by walking around filming with a camera, so I don't think I can fulfill this request 😅 But I will say I love my neighborhood and it's a great area close to everything.

Or you can always just go down to Tahrir Square and there will likely be people out there walking around, probably doing the countdown, driving around honking their horns in celebration. Definitely not at the supermarket, only at liquor stores. Even in Cairo, drinking is not approved of, so while it is fairly easy to find, it's definitely kept separate from the food and just the population in general. If you want to drink, you have to go to the designated places to buy it or drink it. Another thing I forgot to mention in the video is, most bars/restaurants serving alcohol are indoors (or rarely you may find a rooftop or two) and don't usually even have windows, it's always very dark and blacked out inside the bars, so people can't see who is inside drinking. • @Gventures
      @Gventures  5 месяцев назад +1

      Not that I can think of, but I guess I don't often seek out live music. Cairo Jazz club is your best option for consistent live music that is not a touristic destination. If you are looking for more live music and performances, there is the Opera House in Zamalek, but of course that is expensive. There is also belly dancing and dervish dancing entertainment that can be found on Nile River dinner cruises, although that is more targeted at tourists. If you're interested in checking that out, you can find a lot of information for these cruises online (on websites such as Viator, as an example). I have made TONS of videos about food in Egypt, I think that's a pretty damn good guide in itself, then you can just watch those and go explore on your own. Most of my videos are at places recommended by locals, as I have been living in Egypt for several years and my friends and bf are Egyptian. So I know some very great spots not known by many visitors.

    Hey cool chick, love your vids. Just wanna say my last time at Giza the locals I met there took me downtown to Cairo to an underground bar. It was a small place, had a girl belly dancing and a dozen old goys smoking shish heavily and putting money at the girl's feet and and off. My buddies ordered platters of fruit, beers and shish as and we all smoked like chimneys until everyone insisted I go up and dance with the girl, so I danced with her for a while and then everyone demanded I lay money to everyone. Like WTF, they all giving me these signals. So I start pulling out bills and dropping them at the girls perfumed feet but the waiters wanted money too. Luckily for my buddies telling them to go away lol. What a great experience tho.

      I don't know what you mean by a social scene for a single foreign woman, can you elaborate? I do think everyone should do their research on any place one might go, but take what you hear on the internet with a big grain of salt. That's my opinion, anyway. Harassment, it turns out, is a very subjective word, and will also vary according to the person. Life experiences play a big part. What do you consider harassment? For me, people trying to talk to me a lot is not harassment. For some people, it is. Men staring is also not harassment, to me. It will depend on your culture, what you're used to, what new experiences you've had and how you've adapted, and more. It's a loaded subject that will have a different response depending on the person.

Turkey restricted it and that's a good thing. Alcohol is evil, and the Quran calls it "devil worshipping". I saw many from the non-muslim part of my family destroying their lifes with it. If you have a problem with alcohol then take it up with Egypt, because it is legal here, I don't make the laws in this country. I know PLENTY of people that drink and it has not destroyed their lives, though I am sorry to hear it has ruined the lives of some of your family members. @@Gventures "How about you let people make their own choices about what religion they follow," we call everybody to follow the message of Islam. However, this is the same thing as with Qatar, you can come to visit, but don't bring your views and your habits into our countries. The majority of Egyptians voted for Mursi and for Islam, but then they put him away as they always did in the past. Egypt is the land of Islam and it's people are Muslim, and those who drink are a minority, maybe not even Muslim at all. You are disrespecting our culture and our religion. And to the rest: The dangers of the consumption of alcohol are scientific facts and you're in denial of that, which speaks volumes. Everybody who is drinking is in danger to climb up the next step of alcoholism, which is a slow but steady process. It's an intoxicant, it's causing cancer, brain and nerve damage, it's toxic to the liver and every sip is just pure poison to the body. Do you really wanna deny that? Not only are you drinking yourself, you defend drinking in general and you like spread your view among Muslims. One question, when you are in egypt, don't you hear the Allahu akbar from the Mu'adhin? Have you never thought about your creator calling you towards the truth? Follow it!

      @@hamoudi_d "Don't bring your views into our countries" ?? Wow, how very narrow minded of you. You are welcome in the US and you are welcome to have your views there, whether you drink or not or follow Islam or not is your choice and I won't berate you for it. My Muslim Egyptian friends are very welcoming and do not push their beliefs onto me, but I guess they just have a level or respect that is foreign to you. I am not disrespecting a culture by drinking at a bar that is legally operated there. I suppose you would say that to an Egyptian that is drinking in Cairo even though it is their country and not yours. You don't need to drink if you don't want, but don't tell me what to do. I also smoke, that is unhealthy. Eating too much sugar is not good, or greasy or fatty foods. Everything in balance, my dude. And yeah, I hear the call to prayer, and no, I have never thought about "my creator" calling me to the "truth". But I can see from the way you speak that you are stuck in your ways and don't respect other people's beliefs or decisions, you think you know what is best and push that onto other people. I disagree with this mentality. I made this video to show foreigners what is available here, I didn't make it for Egyptians because they live here and already know it is available. You don't need to watch my videos if you disrespect my choices in life. But there is clearly no conversation to be had here, because you believe you have all the answers and are very judgmental, which I want nothing to do with. Good luck!

      But be aware if you are of Arab nationality, you probably won't be able to stay in a dorm in Egypt. Most hostels do not allow Egyptians or people of Arab nationalities to stay in dorms in hostels because of the laws here in Egypt. Law in Egypt requires opposite genders staying in the same room to be married and proof of marriage (certificate of marriage) is required. Because of this law, most hostels do not even allow Arab nationals to stay in shared dorms, even if it is an all male dorm or all female dorm. They usually make these rules at hostels to make it easier on themselves and avoid any legal issues or problems with the police. Arab nationals are able to get a private room at a hostel, but most of them will not allow stays in dorms.
