I wish my HOA board was more transparent. I’ve brought up issues on behalf of several homeowners only to be told, in writing, to stop bringing up issues to the board, that I don’t know what they know and don’t see what they see so I needed to stop being a menace. All of us on our block felt gut punched by the board and slowly, many of my neighbors have started moving away because of this. We feel we can’t even bring up issues to them without being scolded.

Take them to Court. I did and we won.

Our Board president is argumentative. He states throughout our rare meetings that he is busy with his job and needs to wrap it up to get back to his personal priorities. Our meetings are not in person. They are quarterly which is insufficient given the matters in our community. We have 2 minutes to speak which is 8 minutes per year. Yikes.

Yikes indeed. I encourage you to run for the board (with others!) and begin to create a new and better "normal" at your association!

Iwas the treasurer on the board where I live, and have been recently removed, as the result of disagreeing with the recent hiring of a new landscape company, who were among only three comoanies that were being considered.
    a. There was no presentation by any of the prospective companies.
    b. No review of their contract by our attorney
    c. They were the biggest bidder by over$10,000.00
When I objected vociferously, I was told to sit down!
We just had 2 hurricanes and last year our Insurance on the buildings went from$335,000
to $550,000 I called our Insurance company and the agent told me to expect another 35-50% increase even though, we didn't receive any direct damage, as the Western part of the state suffered. I reminded the board of this, and again I was labeled a trouble maker.
Finally, in an email by the board President, I am not to call or communicate with the property management company or any vendors.
I'm pretty sure that all board members are equal, and as far as I know, the 1st Amendment has been suspended.
Please don't talk to me about board decorum, as I'm sure we will be getting a significant increase in our monthly dues for no reason, than this board likes to spend money without oversight .

So sorry to hear of your experience. We will continue to encourage and train boards in order to minimize these types of situations.
