    Hey Maurice, thanks heaps for doing this video. It was extremely helpful. A friend and I did a tag team on my 76 GL1000 yesterday. It was great to be able to follow your video step by step to get a nd end up with a great result. I was also horrified to discover someone had previously failed to reinstall the plates that go in behind the tensioners, so I fabricated some out of a piece of 2mm polycarbonate, Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to make the video.

    Absolutely superb video - and nice Ltd GL1000! Looking at getting one of these myself and this will probably be one of my first jobs!

    Just finished mine today.....thanks so much for this video. I did hit a snag. My offset wrench wouldn't fit in the back of the stator so instead; I pulled the plugs and used the Kickstart to turn the motor over. Worked great.

    Thank you so much. I was just about to do this on a 77 I bought and now I see that it looks like it needs a new set of head gaskets. This is super useful.

    Excellent video, I am rebuilding an LTD at present, been 4 years so far so am looking forward to riding it. This will be my 4th LTD all Australian delivered. I have had 15 or more Goldwings over the years, mostly with sidecars on the non LTD's. Magic old bikes.

    Thanks for the video. I recently purchased a 78 GL-1000 with 16,000 miles, and it's likely on the original belts. Your video gave me (a wankel rotary guy) everything I needed to get the job done on this unfamiliar motorbike. Cheers!

    Please tell me, when rotating the crank to achieve top dead centre, your numbers read 1, F, then T. In another video on the same process, the number 1 appears above the T. Any reason for this and it affect this procedure? Many thanks

    So, on partzilla it shows 4 different belts. Which ones do you use??? I have a 79 that is sptting fuel out of the left side and still getting spark...looks like a belt jumped a tooth or two.

    Why didn't Honda use a chain on these bikes. Did you check the shop price for doing that type of work, I bet it would be more than the value of the bike. If you are going to require a belt at least use a non interference engine.

    • @mauricegardiner6910
      @mauricegardiner6910  4 года назад

      do you mean timing chain ? noise maybe? i don't know.... do you mean pay a mechanic to change the belts ? what on earth for ? you see how easy it is ... a belt as opposed to a chain on an interference engine ? dunno mate. write an angry email to Honda.

    • @ACoustaDC
      @ACoustaDC 4 года назад +1

      @@mauricegardiner6910 Easy is subjective but yeah, if you are gonna have a belt at least have a non interference engine. Great work though. At least honda made the timing marks very clear and I like you idea of spinning it around slow before you button it back up.

    did you remove the plugs or does the engine turn over that easy without removal?

    • @mauricegardiner6910
      @mauricegardiner6910  6 лет назад

      pretty easy to turn with plugs in , of course much easier with them out.
      with plugs out , be certain the engine does not turn off the timing marks. just go carefully and all will be good. M.
