Igbo Ghanaian here. I am glad to hear how you feel about Ghana old music. I have lots of igbo friends who enjoy Ghana music alot. I said Igbo Ghanaian here because my grandfather was Igbo.
here is the music i can listen to,so long as it plays.good instrumentation, good lyrics, meaningful and lyrics, and good arrangements.don't want to talk about the vocalist.he is just super these are the real legends of highlife.these dongs will bear testimony for years to come
K. Gyasi had unique flair for assembling talented musicians, hence his band always played at the highest level. I heard about his group in 1962 when my elder brothers discussed Akwaboah and OPK's performance on one Sunday when they had attended the K. Gyasi concert, which the locals termed dance, the previous night at the Krofrom Atomic Bar. That group was affectionately called "Masters" the pride of Kumasi, the "Garden City of West Africa" by the youth of the time.
This music makes me remember my father and mother, in the 70s, when we used to spend the long vacations in my fathers cocoa farms village, May Dr.K.Gyasi' , Antie Mary' (Dr.s wife) and my mother( Eno Benefaah') souls rest in perfect peace.
I lived close to K. Gyasi and the noble Kings at Dichemso in Kumasi. I used to go listen to them practice. Honey was the organist. They were a class act. Very noble in their behavior and the way they performed.
Honey, the organist for K Gyasi, Boakye, the organist for C.K. Mann and Patrick, the organist for Wantu Wazuri all attended St Augustine's in Cape Coast
The people of ABA ENYIMBA CITY demanded that he comes to Aba and he answer the call. He was old as of 1979 during the visit, The foundation of Aba stadium nearly uprooted because of his fans across the city. RIP Dr.
Whenever l hear this evergreen song by the inimitable great Dr Gyasi, l fight back the tears swelling from inside my eye wells. So many good memories. 16 minutes of delicious African jazz highlife never went by so fast. Over sixty now, first heard it as a boy in the sixties, and it smashed my soul. Disciplined ensemble. Fine horn section. The heart shaking expertly timed rolls by the drummer, exquisite lead and rhythm by the guitarist is chimed off in this delicious pot of African sound by Gyasi' timelessly sweet sonorous voice. That's Africa home of the best rhythm ever flung onto the universe.
This is great. I really remember my father Yaw Appiahgyei aka ( Agya 3na) during 70s he use to play this music and at that time he has so many old timers album. may his soul rest in peace. AMEN
Ghana pieces real African icon pure natural and undiluted music that touches the soul direct from the masters, Aba Enyimba city in Biafra loves Ghana highlife okukuseku is my witnesses
Timeless music. Thomas frimpong who did the lead vocals on this song was the drummer as well. The first to ever happen in Ghana. Remember he sang and played drum live. Long live their departed souls Amen
1 of my now very favorite Africa artists. JUST DISCOVERED this brother a couple days ago. Lovely vibe to his music. Sweet smooth & easy. Like a summer breeze. Over here n America loving it man !
Excellent. Goddamned fine, high class african jazz blues. Melodiously virtuosic, incomparably smooth electric guitar work. With great international appeal. A classic for the ages!
