MY Mothers Father, scored 3 of the 6 points that day in Dundalk. Tommy was no. 10 for Down and no. 5 for GLEANN 3 miles north of Newry. Granda told me all, he told me The Gallant John Joe O'Reilly (who I might be wrong in saying was a back that Ulster Final day '42 in Dundalk. "John Joe" he said had legs on him like tree trunks. Toomy McP. met a All-Ireland Winner 1960, or '61 or '68 player in Hill Street, Newry. The man said "Tommy you were born too soon". Tommy had Mullaghbann blood but was born in Canal St. no. 81. His mother (my mothers parental grand mother was Rose Treanor a Great woman. Rose's mother was Hughes and her Granny was "RYAN". Tommy was very well bred. But he was best as a HORSEMAN and I take after him. I help Dermott Lennon (nephew of Joe '68 Captain). I "find Jumping horses". slán
I remember my uncle joking that we might have to go home at half time cause we thought monaghan would hammer us🤣, respect to the monaghan fans though as they shook are hands after the game and wished us luck in the final 👏
Personally, I cannot see Down being able to pull it off. Yes, they have had an incredible year thus far, but I think they will just fall short...but I could be wrong, we'll have to wait and see.
