Having absolutely bare minimal life like this guy actually rids you of these meaningless things. He just eats, go to meaning less job and sleeps and repeat. Nothing is better then that when you are simply waiting to die. Some even would call him religious. The job is meaning less it just meaning if he is a doorman somewhere security guard or caretaker that's a meaning less job as in it's a simple job means less as anybody can do it rich or poor with no education. This sums up what a true genius and a wise man is. He was willing to go further to where no one is unable to go just to be able to solve it for mankind for free.
He has shown that not everything can be bought by money. If money and prizes solved everything, then a genius man like him won't be needed at all.
This is the illness of our society, that too much materialism when he showed to the world that he could live less and be abundant in the inside.

Good morning, most scientists in world also not recognize Nobel prize be similar reasons - politically motivated (but if Nobel award commission give awards to people who are agreed to get, because commission can select from a lot of inventions, in this situation they had no options, because it is incredible rare and too famous event 😂).

It reminds me of Robert James Fischer aka Bobby Fischer, who was a chess genius and became a world champion in 1972 by defeating Boris Spassky.
And after becoming a world champion people thought he would play more chess and defend his world champion title, but he started isolating himself and Kinda disappeared from the world.
    And the rest is history…

Although I greatly respect his decision to refuse the accolades, etc....the mathematician in me is saddened that he abandoned all future endeavors in the discipline.
Imagine just what else he could have contributed in new areas for up & coming fellow peers to delve into....we'll never know.
I liken him to another great Soviet mathematician, Alexander Grothendieck who sadly went the route of self-imposed isolation despite his level of brilliance in the field.
Despite it all, they are both giants in the mathematics pantheon of rare geniuses & worthy of admiration! 🤔

We don't want to admit that someone with such gifts and likely a wonderful soul that has given us, the world, so much knowledge, is also mentally ill. Logically, and mathematically speaking, there is almost no other reason for his behavior. We all know this, and we all lament it. Most of all, I'm sure, the people that love him.
