22 laps old soft tyres, worn engine ....
That's how you defend like a lion. Absolute mastery.
At first I thought it has ended on the first DRS zone when Hamilton overtook him, but man I was wrong.
He immediately got in the slipstream, returned it on the inside, went wide, slowed Ham down, backed off to get DRS, sent it again on the inside. Then drove right on the edge, slow but safe from being overtaken, recharged battery, positioned himself in great defensive position in T1 and again T5, drained the battery on the last attempt to defend, gave Max DRS, slipstream and finally backed off to let Max by. Absolutely amazing.
Checo is a legend.
"Absolute animal"
I have watched that clip at least 20 times
Was there a way for RB to fight for the constructors if Perez didn't DNF in Saudi?
@@francishallare204 no, there was no way.
@@akshat6020 let's assume RB podium 2-3 in Saudi then 1-3 Abu Dhabi.
Francis Hallare If perez doesn’t DNF in Saudi, then its a likely P5, so 10 more points there. If this was the case they wouldn’t retire Checo at the end of Abu Dhabi and assuming his engine stays intact for the final lap, and Max also makes the move, then that’s 15 more points in the bag for Red Bull. Because Checo doesn’t DNF, Bottas loses a place and falls to P7, losing Merc 2 points. RB lost the constructors by 26 points in the end, so without the Saudi and Abu Dhabi DNF’s RB would win the constructors by 1 point
Perez lifts for a second at 1:15 at the beginning of the straight so Hamilton can pass first and can get the DRS. An animal.
Wow, this whole time I was criticising Hamilton for pushing too hard out the corner. When all along it was Checho outsmarting him!
And the lunge the followed was just impeccable.
@@muniz27 no, its at just after the chicane. You can see at 1:16
@@muniz27 the DRS detection point its at exactly 1:16 you can actually see the line of DRS detection zone jajajajaja also hamilton is ahead at that point, then checo opens the DRS at 1:18 jaja bro honestly you are the one that haves no idea what you're talking about jajajajajajajajaja wtf?
Hamilton on new tires needed 1.5 round to pass Perez on old tires.
Verstappen on new tires needed 0.3 round to pass Hamilton on old tires.
Perez literally burning up his engine to make that happen! Freakin legend!
@mattyrosee ty i was going to say that
@mattyrosee Well you have to choose one mode. But it is very well possible, that RB choose to crank his engine up, knowing that he probably wouldn't last the whole race. But of course thats just speculation.

hamilton just gapped them both with 13 seconds on a hard tyre vs soft tyre
Or battery
Honda interduced new battery since the Belgian Gp 2021 this battery still have the advantage in saving energy this is what happened in the last lap between lewis & max in Abu Dhabi as lewis car starts blinking red light when max overtake him & this is mean lewis run off of energy but max & perez with better battery they overtake & hold lewis back in many occasions since the interduce of this new high efficiency battery & RedbullRacing now taking this technological advantage to dominate the F1
really a shame that perez couldn't finish the race. he showed masterclass and deserved a podium in this race AT LEAST. what a boss
yeah was a bummer but they didnt want to take any chances with red flag as 11 was on the edge of breaking down
I believe it was a fair play to let Mercedes win the constructors! #redbullfan
@@jonathansilvere they weren't even close to winning it sadly..leaving checo out could have resulted in him DNFing and in a potential SC ruining Max's title chances
He could have got 2nd on those new tires.. 🤷🏻♂️

Ha haaa… he was Zorro that day… I hear ya
1:05 - 1:11 is just such a great move, then if you stop at 1:15 and slowly go forward; he cuts throttle before DRS line to let Lewis go, and re-takes again. This is a master piece on so many levels.
It's so perfectly timed when you watch it from Hamiltons camera, like he pulled the rug from under his feet.
it was a beautiful switchback
This still makes me smile every time I see it, absolute legendary defence
For Christmas someone could gift Hamilton the DVD
'The Art of Defending With Worn Tires'
by Checo the Legend
That is a nicer gift then what I was thinking, A giant box of tissue to dry his tears, Mercedes branded pacifier to keep sucking in the off season and a pair of Toto diapers to hold the crap load of complaints he is full of.

I know this race was about Hamilton and Verstappen's to fight over, but Perez put on more of a show then both of them did. Incredible driving.

Probably my favourite part was when Crofty said “that’s about all Perez could do, or was it?”
But seriously that was some incredible driving. Easily my favourite driver on the grid.👌
You don't make any sense....... that was not David croft but Martin brundle...
my dad and i saw this race together and when perez defended his spot with full might of his car we were like children and i heard my dad say to my mom and me "here watch hamilton will complain about this" few seconds later hamilton did wich i laughed my ass off
@@anghell888But it wasnt dangerous, he just blocked him in very slow corners, nothing that you couldnt react to.
@@anghell888 Well F1 was always a teamsport. Blocking or driving slower isn't illegal. Perez didn't move under braking and didn't braketest Lewis, both would have been illegal and punishable.
Since when are you a F1 Fan? No offense but these tactics were used by many driver before, but seldom to such a level of perfection.
Alonso did it in Hungary this year, Schumacher did it for Irvine in Sepang after he was out of the WDC fight. Coulthard tried it on Schumacher in the US for Mika, again championship fight. Im sure it happend even more often, but back then we hadn't the telemtry like nowdays.

@@anghell888 cough silverstone cough
@@anghell888 mate. Get some perspective. By your logic things like sqeezing and leaving minimal room would be "illegal". If perez sees hamilton wanting to go round the outside he has all the right not to hit the apex but rather to extend the corner as much as possible to leave hamilton as little room possible. Its called good defending. Seems like you havent heard of it 👌
Hamilton complained about dangerous driving on both occasions, when Alonso did it in Hungary and here.
Yet when asked,he says this is how he wants it.
I think he's making a mental note out loud. Nothing much to do about other than race be and he knows it.
@@Themayseffect He doesn't have an open mic though. For us (and the box) to hear him, he consciously has to press the radio button. If he would just make a mental note, he would not divert his attention to pushing the PTT button.
So he most definitely was complaining.
I mean, I've played racing games. Everyone complains in the heat of the moment, then, after the facts you can reflect on things calmly and see that it was all good.
This is less true about the end of that race, of course, but generally speaking it's less hypocrisy and more impulsive venting of frustration
He wants fair racing. Not getting pushed off the track and getting block 80% of the time
@@iemv8900 cope
This was magic from Perez, proper teamwork.
Just wanted to have a look at Perez''s epic defence after Brazil F1 2022.
Who else is here after Max didn’t return this favor back to Checo today at the Brazilian GP?
In my opinion Checo has some of the best race craft in the game. Able to hold of Hamilton is no easy challenge.
He definitely has the knowledge and experience
Watching Hamilton’s onboard I can say checo was very crafty haha. But hamilton can’t complain about it, it was very similar at what he did to nico in 2016, and nico said that he would do the same.
So Perez was blocking then
@@iemv8900 of course he is going to block, what do you expect? lol, Lulu fans are really something else.
Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen did the impossible that day. It took 8 years but together they finally stopped Mercedes. Together they did what Vettel, Raikkonen, and Leclerc never could.

My god this shows how hard the battle was way more clearly than the TV broadcast. NGL, I only liked Checo cos he was a Force India driver but this season I love him as a racer. And as a fan of Max, I dare say Checo has raced with Hamilton way more skillfully than Max has. I hope Redbull bags the Constructor's next year as a final hat tip to Honda's efforts.
There is no Honda this year, Red Bull made their own engines. Honda will only manufacture them.
@@cloud42269 that's wrong. Honda is still providing Redbull and Alpha Tauri with engines. Both cars will have an HRC logo on their engine covers. Redbull doesn't even have the right engineers to produce their own power units yet. That's a future plan.

Anyone here after Brazil GP 2022 ?
Checo doesn’t have it on qualifying but man can he race wheel to wheel. He’s the opposite of Bottas.
The reason why he doesn’t qualify well is because his driving style is so smooth that he can’t hear his tyres enough to get them to grip so it takes a bit longer so I read
@@Yahniboy that's interesting actually
At 0:14 Hamilton is pushing 150kph as he goes under the bridge
At 1:47 he's at least 20kph slower.
That's HUGE in F1
That was incredibly clever of checo, there's now way you can pass in that section, so checo intentionally drove slower, hence LH also needed to slow down, hence Max could catch up, had we had an interlagos finale, LH would've breezed past checo with no to mid difficulty
@@samarthsb882 that was black and white flag for sure btw. Still wouldn't affect the result but hamilton were right, braking into the mid corner (which is tight one) dangerous move, he could hit him
More impressive each time I watch it. Checo executed everything perfectly.
I'll never get tired of saying that Checo is such an underrated driver.
This is like a win. An believable driver he is. Thank you for that show you gave us. We love SB
No one told me. I saw it. History being written right in front of my eyes.

Perez is the perfect teammate. Truly a legend already
This is one of the greatest drives in f1 history.. no doubt. Will always remember this!
I keep coming back to this, it's such insane good driving. It really gave me a whole new level of respect for Perez' skills as a driver. It's some of the best defensive driving i've ever seen.
Perez had nothing to lose he won the championship for max this day
I still feel Perez drove a better race then verstappen did. What he was able to do was amazing.
I could watch this every week. This is so big time… 🔥😍
Driving dangerous? Hamilton is no longer used to defending himself. He thinks everyone will let him pass without a fight. Absolute clown
So true, he is a crybaby but for real, it's kinda sad that this man is the 7th world champion...
Come on... through Hamilton's years there was so many dangerous drivers like Maldonado, and instead of congratulating Perez ,he saying dangerous driving....true champs does not say what Hamilton said
@@westendriot6636 he’s fishing for penalties, any driver would in that situation, Perez was literally braking and changing direction in twisty corners. Good defending but ofc any driver would say “oh he’s switching late” “oh that’s dangerous” “oh this is illegal blocking”

Their short-ish 2022 battle brought me here.
Even as a merc fan.. Have to say, outstanding driving by perez to close that gap.. That takes balls
Who came back here to watch this after what happened today?
"I explained my reasons"
If checo took the inside line for that second attack he would have held up lewis that tiny bit more for max to over take. Absolutely brilliant racing by checo. 👏🏾
Apart from the last lap, this was the best moment of the season
Someone show this to max after what he did in the Brazilian gp
Gives me chills everytime
If perez would've passed again Lewis on the inside, he could've hold him enough for Max to be even closer and possibly pass both.
That was a masterpiece from Checo.
Checo Perez is a legend!
This is part of F1's history
"Oh my god that's just so dangerous man" lol
Future champ, he really deserves it
Crazy how he made him lose 7 seconds in a lap checo is a legend ♥️
This is why he is the best fit for red bull glad he got his 2 year extension today

He Will come back stronger. He already finished p2. Lets see the next year
Checo é uma lenda! Animal!
It's so funny you can literally predict everything lewis says 🤣 I was waiting for that since dangerous driving but shunting max into the wall in Silverstone was fine 🤣
Hamilton says dangerous driving. I guess he forgot about Rosbergs final fight then.
Hamilton is the biggest hypocrite I’ve ever seen, so no surprise
Max is probably a fish, not a lion with his short term memory... I write this after Brazil 2022, what a disgrace towards one of the best teammates ever.
He defended against the absolute best... 7 time world champion. The stress of this could have folded most experienced drivers. #legend
I wouldn't call hamilton the best at racing at the moment tbh. He's still fast but his racing (attacking/defending) instincts are rusty as can be.
Hope he can back in shape and make some kind of comeback.
Imagine if Checo was close enough to Hamilton to launch Max past both cars into P1 like a slingshot. That would've been even more epic than this performance already was 😄
Bro was still hustling P1 in a Red Bull like a P7 in a Force India
Helping team mates does not need to be reciprocated, it seems after Brazil 2022.
1.05 and 1.20 and the 2 Hamilton mistakes that cost the 2021 WDC....
Letting Perez reattach twice is what cost Lewis the time to grab the softs under vsc and prevent the max attack on the final lap....
Mercedes strategy didnt require a extra pit and everything was going well till Masi fucked up, fraudulent championship
@@heltonsoaresf4413 Haha, no.
@@heltonsoaresf4413 So Masi should have resumed racing while there was a crashed Williams on track?
@@LS-Moto He, like most of the Brit press is in denial cause his driver couldn't hold position like Checo did, that while Max didn't even have DRS.
So they have to blame Masi for not finishing the race under a safety car that was no longer necessary rather than accept the shortcoming of their driver who lost a championship despite the terrible luck his opponent had to overcome throughout the season.
@@magnero2749 The rules were not applied rightfully DOZENS of times this season. So I get the call out on the inconsistency. But the drivers (Not Hamilton nor Verstappen) are to blame for any of that. Now the media is talking about a possible Lewis comeback, which is weird, because he has never left F1 in the first place. Besides, the self pitty of Toto and Mercedes is starting to get creepy. I'm starting to lose all respect for them.
Perez could have got him on that last overtake by Hamilton also, if he had went down the inside (leftside) again. Hamilton would've been fcked.
But Lewis would've had DRS on the exit leaving Max further behind with no DRS and eventually Lewis got pass Checo the next corner thanks to the DRS. Just my thoughts.
@@thoreight You're correct on your assessment, I really think this situation was played almost as perfectly as it could've.
Don't forget the old tyres.
@@thoreight Exactly, Checo did what he had to do to perfection.
Lets be frank, he's not the quickest on pure pace alone, so decisions like letting himself get DRS while battling, and not granting it for Lewis is how a driver like Perez can keep up without having that 'natural pace'.
F1 isn't just about steering and pedal work anymore, it's more akin to chess at 300km/h.
If Verstappen could have passed Saint a lap earlier it would have been more epic but Verstappen was struggling to get passed Sainz
Everytime I see this goosebumps!!
Love watching checko in a car capable of fighting with the elite. One of the best duels I've seen with someone having no tyres and just goes to show if u get your elbows out u can hold them off
Love how Hamilton calls it Dangerous driving LOL. No it's called racing.
hes so good
And idiot Ham complaining…. LMAO. Great job.
Hamilton: “dangerous driving”
Does he not remember 2016 finale when he did the same to Nico.
Man, checo was amazing during that race. Great teamwork!
Redbull masterclassing F1 xD, checo perez does not need to win to be already a legend, the guy is pure teamwork, the way he fights for Max victory is insane, he's fully commited to the operation .. his driving skills are OP
As one teammate helping another, this is one of the best... but for me Eddie Irvine at Suzuka 1997 for Ferrari is the greatest team strategy of all time.
Lewis can be mad at Latifi and Masi all he wants, but the fact is - if he could have gotten past Checo on that first run down to 6, he would have saved himself 10 seconds of gap to Max. That would have made his 11 second gap after Latifi's crash a 21 second gap and given him time to pit for fresh tires and not lost track position. Sometimes you have to make your own luck!
Finally someone who truly understands it.. he could’ve won even without the 21s gap (with his speed he easily could overtake Max in last lap). But if he did some real racing against Perez his advantage was enough to win. Sadly Hamilton fans rather cry that his victory was stolen instead of seeing their idol just can’t real race anymore 🤷♂️
Hamilton left the door wide open, at 1:07, en didn't cover the inside line at 1:22. That's 2 errors in a row.
Still doesn't take away how fantastic Checo's drive was, of course.

I don't understand the dangerous driving comment. That looked about as clean as you could ask for. Maybe the guy in the back should have gone around he seemed to have a healthy speed advantage.
Back in the day the drivers had balls and would pass rather than complain that the other driver was dangerous and they didn't have all these safety features like they have now. I hope this guy doesn't represent the whole generation because no one likes a cry baby wimp.
It's dangerous driving when other people do it to hamilton, but not when Hamilton backs up Nico rosberg on the same track in the same place. Or when Alonso defends against Hamilton despite Hamilton sending Max into the barriers. The guy is an entitled little manchild.
