So in "Hook Hug Pluck", use little, ring and middle fingers to drag opponent right forearm to deflect his movement. Tight gripping is not necessary as it may result in injury to your wrist if opponent is much stronger than you. "Hug" is to use your left hand and forearm to go around opponent back's head or neck to shorten your distance between yourself and your opponent. This will help to amplify the damaging effect of "pluck" using your right hand to punch . In double gripping hands, downward force is applied to opponent right elbow and upward force is applied to opponent wrist at the same time. The opponent hand is also turned in a pronated position. In this way, the opponent left hand, forearm and arm is locked. With lowring of your stance and centre of gravity, your opponent will also lose balance. This is more or less the English translation of what Sifu said. I apologize if there is any misinterpretation.

I am not ultimately conform with the cideo above but "pluck" is not the punch. Pluck is the rip movement. Gou Lau Cai is not hooking, grabbing punch but hooking, grabbing, rip. In quan pu (ancient technique lists) you will find entries like "gou, lau ,cai, tong chui" --> hooking, grabbing, ripping, straight punch. Logically with the word "cai" a straight punch cannot be meaned.

In Ou-Lou-Tsai the three-finger mantis hand grab can be considered a faster trapping redirect that sends the incoming force away from your centerline, rather than a solid grab. the follow-up four-finger grab, performed simultaneously, provides the control of the limb; note that when this second hand captures the arm above the elbow that this fulcrum point control enhances the control. Once both hands have captured the incoming limb, "Tsai" is the final pull that extends the attacking arm beyond its trajectory; as the opponent is now yanked forward the impact of any follow-up strike is maximized. The performer displays this very well.
In the double-mantis hand movement (I learned this and Ou-Lou Tsai from Sifu Brendan Lai in San Francisco many years ago), it can be seen as either a momentary control of the arm with a focus on pressing the elbow or as an elbow break, which can then be followed by a strike. When the attacker's neck naturally turns as their body snaps forward, a backhand or back fist to this area can be very effective.
An additional point is that in Northern Praying Mantis the response to an attack incorporates the entire body, not just the hands or upper body. The practitioner shows excellent leg work displaying this feature.
My apologies if these points are in fact discussed within this fine demonstration of these two fundamental Northern Mantis techniques, as I, unfortunately, don't speak the language spoken. Excellent video from what I was able to understand. Thank you.

Thank you for your translation, very clear, and almost entirely as what we said.
Pluck(Cai/Tsai) which is a final step of this technique, is not only meant the movement of rip but also is included the way to get what you want, such as strike.
If we want to fully understanding Chinese Martial arts, we had better to understand more about Chinese Culture, especially language, just like the word 採(Cai/Tsai), you can not only use your culture and language to think and explain the idea of it.

Can sifu demo how Chinese kungfu initiate attacks like fakes and real attacks because I mostly seen counter and defence. If MMA has jabs as feeler, attacking, faking, does kungfu have similar tactics?
    Thank you .

Thanks for the video. I guess it would be great to have english subtitles to understand what is asked and answered. We would like to do a video about that topic so it would be probably good to know what was said to give a profound reaction to that video. But we understand that amount of more work too...
