I have been living in Chiang Mai for the past 9 months and I am looking for a location down South because I hated the Burning Season up here. I am trying to decide between Cha Am, Hua Hin, Bang Saen, Jomtien, Rayong, or even a Bangkok condo.
Good and informative vidio, I even lived in Cha Am for 13 months (2018 - 2019), Cha Am really has everything one needs for a pensioner's existence. The only thing they do not have is a large mall, but it`s only takes about 20-25 min to drive south to Hua Hin.
I used to live in Cha Am and it's a great place to retire, smaller than Hua Hin and no malls, very busy at weekends and Thai holidays with the Bangkok crowd, otherwise quiet with a great market and fish quay. Cheaper than Hua Hin for condo/house rentals. Stay away from the bar stool politicians and it's all good. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could.
@@andrewrobinson2565 I had a bereavement, with the emotional and practical consequences, to deal with back in UK. Then lil ol' covid struck and I couldn't get back, then when the gates opened once more I had further issues to deal with in UK, I'll get back one day!!
I agree 100% after I have spend 4 long vacations there! But if you ever come to asia again: check out Cambodia, just 1 hour flight from Bangkok and you will find THREE amazing facts: 1 EVERYBODY there speaks english (in opposite to ChaAm) 2. Food is even MORE cheap than in ChaAm-Restaurants: 1 coke, 1 USD, same for beer, Icecoffee, cappucino and other softdrinks - everything just 1 USD! food prices are about HALF of ChaAm! full dinner includings 2 drinks is available for less than 3 USD!!!! 3. restaurant AND hotelstaff is EXTREMLY friendly and POLITE (what is not really standard in ChaAm) check it out! When you mentioned "bar stool politicians " you were probably NOT talking of Thai people but Germans, English and Netherlands, right?😉
My wife and I have chosen Chumphon for that reason. It's quiet with a beautiful beach (Thung Wua Laen Beach). The locals are extremely nice. Also you are surrounded by nature. We love it here. I'm 66 and don't want to be around a lot of craziness and drama. Thanks for watching 🇹🇭👀🙏
I'll note the Golden Beach hotel. Or at least what lurks behind. I have never been to Cha-am. Coming next week. This is a useful video. Looking for a cheap but decent hotel. Cheers, mate.
June 2023- I will be visiting in November... definitely considering Cha Am as my final destination retirement spot. Close enough to Bangkok without being in The Concrete Jungle.
Also lived there 2019-2020, loved it cause it’s slow paced, big Scandinavian community there as well … big up to them 🙏🙏 monkey island isn’t far for a day gateway, there’s a great boxing gym I use to train at (chokdee gym) good for all levels from beginner to competitors, but for scuba diving or things like that I suggest krabi or koh Tao/koh nang yuan
I just came back from Thailand and was looking around for places to live (in the future). I've been to Thailand many times starting from about 12 years ago. This last trip I went to bangkok, pattaya (jomtien, naklua), chiang mai, cha-am, hua hin. I absolutely loved hua hin and cha-am. Bangkok is a big city, which has everything but its a big congested city (I was there for a week this time and I've lived in big cities so its not for me), pattaya is for the party people which I'm not but I do like koh larn and outside of Central pattaya or even a place like bang saray 30 minutes south. Chiang mai I found a little too boring but I was on my own and didn't really do a big exploration. Hua hin was awesome for me...a lazy beach community with older people, couples or families...im in the stage of my life where the party seen is just a horrible experience now. I drove up to cha am and spent the day there...definitely much less touristy than hua hin but a small worry that you have to speak more thai there, which I have very limited skill.
There were a few farangs in cha am 30 years ago .I'd get on my motorcycle to have a few beers with them ...It got boring in Thay, ang petchaburi at times with no farangs .
Really nice vid. I havent been there for almost 25 years and and I my hotel and prob the restaurant around the corner is still there😃 It was just a small village but now it's very big and too much mass tourism unfortunately.

Hi Ian, That was all part of the same complex called The Energy. If I remember correctly all the units right next to the beach with the pools were all sold.
We have had a place there for many years. Great place, you perhaps shouldn’t focus on the red light options first, show the beautiful culture; people can find what they want wherever they go - it kind of misrepresents Cha Am and Thailand and is a real Western perspective to look at the nasty first.
I've a friend staying in HH right now I'll share this video to him ... seems things are a little bit more open . I know that Soi Bus Station area it used to be very busy ... it was hard to tell if that farang was joking with you or being serious ... that's one thing l unfortunately realise about some that live out there .. they are idiots
