The driver is such a nice chap to share all this, can't appreciate it enough, thank you Sir!
This is probably the best series of vids that The Challenger or The Cheiftain has ever done.
Actually getting a person who actually drives the Tiger is awesome as he is just not spewing forth data but imparting his actual knowledge and experience.
This is wonderful!
Nothing like getting information from someone who knows their onions I always say.
The Germans man! They built this 80 years ago! insane
Yeah
Well it was everyone vs German basically
@@CaptYellow331 lol yeah both WW1 and WW2 insane how many lives wasted and cultural loss...
Germany made the best tanks if not had the best idea's for tanks that were realistic.
Holy shit that tanks is like a bmw compared to T34. The interior is so nice.
T34s were garbage, but only 'few' people know that.
It wasnt anything special, they just had alot of them.
Even the gun they later had on T-34-85, the 85mm one, was much weaker than 75mm Panther, Pz IVc Stug etc had.
Adrik Bogdanov What ?
Pulssqt It actually was quite special, for example, sloped armor pretty revolutionary and something that the germans copied for their Panther. (Strangely enough they didint add slopes for tiger, but I assume that is for logistic reasons mainly.) What you're overlooking aswell is the cost to manufacture, if you can have 5 T34's at the cost of 1 tiger (numbers are made up here, but the direction of the assumption should be about right), you'll swarm the tigers weak sides with those t34's before the tiger has a chance to destroy them all, making the t34 a winner. M6A1 for example, was never mass produced because it was about the cost of two shermans, which the americans thought would be much more effective in battle than the single M6A1.
In short, Quantity will beat quality here. In strictly 1v1 sense the German tanks would be superior, but in real war scenario it comes down to alot more than just that. Also t34's, having the home field advantage, were actually build to fight in snowy/icy battlefields, where-as the german tanks were built for mainly german soil (In hindsight that was quite silly, they should have known where they are sending thise tanks.. One might speculate this was because the german army had the idea of USSR being a poor backwater country that would be crushed before the winter set in. Much like how Napoleon lost his men against The Bear.)
All-in-all considering more than just 1v1 basis, T34 was a great tank for anyone but the crew inside it.
Victor Sund Man, did you know about turret problem T34's had untill they introduced T34-85 with 3 man turret ? Did you know that most of T34's never saw combat because they broke down because they were excremley unreliable, and those who saw combat never came back to base. lol
Yes, quanitiy was the only advantage of T34.
BMW and Mercedes built engines.
Porsche built vehicles (including tanks, competing with some other company) and engines, however their tanks were often too complicated and unreliable. However Ferdinand Porsche did have some components that were completely ahead of his time like the electric transmission.
MAN designed ships I think, including submarinez
I had no idea how complicated these monsters were to operate.I've watched and read about them and the narrators always say they were over engineered and complex etc, but this is an eye opener. Thanks very much for posting !
+ThePostie501 Well, they are complex, but, TBH, most modern humans would have a hard enough time just operating an automobile from the 1940's...
@@l337pwnage It is still just a carbureted engine on tracks, most classic car enthusiasts would be rolling around neighbourhood within an hour, given the chance.
It's German it has to be over engineered.
:D :D :D Except Russians. I actually owned 2 Ladas and Zaz years ago. WW 1 stuff :D
You just have to take all the same measures in this as with am old gasoline car or tractor from the era.
I feared it would be worse!
French tanks have 1 forward gear and 8 reverse
haahaha
Thats one forward gear more than the Italian tanks.
It's a backworth driving tiger
Unfunny and disrespectful.
French tanks have rear-view mirrors so they can see the front lines.
Looking forward to the turret episode! I was a Leopard 2 gunner a few years back, so I'm really interested in seeing how it was on the legendary Tiger :)
I wouldn't get the tank started by the time the war was over
Even if you did start it, it would probably break down in 1km anyway.
@@mumzly1 yeap, so many worries about oil leaks, one wonders if it was actually a war machine
or the engine just burst into flames, or the transmission took a shit. Tigers weren't the amazing machine one would think. They were nothing that special. Big gun, yes, lots of armor, yes, but over complicated.
Mumzly04 yeah, I’m sure history got it 100% wrong and German tanks were complete garbage.
Say anything you Tiger-haters want...it just won't change a bit the fact that it was BY FAR the best WW2 tank...and that's the overwhelming opinion among specialists !
I've never seen a more useful video on the Tiger I. Excellent!
The "Trilux" is in such tiny amounts its just a warning in case the glass breaks. Same as foresight on the SA80 or the depression indicators that you found on Chieftain. So no worry.
Willy
Thank you you just told me how to take one of my favorite tanks for a "joy ride"
Right, so it's A+F4+CNTRL+SPACEBAR+DOWN ARROW to click starter twice? Or is that to prime the fuel pump? Argggg!!
to turn the engine first we have to pul the fire starter of the fire starter of the pin that actually fire the engine....
Yes, I will release some footage taken at "Tiger Day" that we took of a drive.
Obviously hugely dependant on the tactical situation and the threat, but yes in todays MBT's you feel pretty secure.
FINALLY! part 4 and i finally get to see the insides.. it is called "Inside the Tanks", why did i have to wait almost to the end?
Petr Kotlitel I love these parts of the videos
Really appreciate the walk-thru of the Tiger.Killer
This is incredibly interesting. I must get over to England and have a look at this museum
They are still not 100% sure how it works!
There is a driver's handbook available.
@@gaborkiss1425 But the driver sounds like they're still just making things up as they go. And the sign "Do not use this fuel falve!" does not exactly scream "Competent crew!"... Also whenever they drive the tank, the sound is off like the driver has no clue how to drive classic stick...They should give it back to Germany or at least allow German engineers to take a look at it and give them some pointers.
jajesam sigurno r/woosh this guy is just teaching you while ww3 came
@@guestuser1671 what? No German engineer is going to know better than any British engineer. The sign is mostly likely because that valve no longer works, the vehicle is over 75 years old and has been shot at.
I would love to go through the routine on such a sensible mschine.Seems all aspects are considered
Incredible how complicated they are.
So the vision port is actually a direct opening, rather than a periscope from two 45 degree prisms going to the deck above him? Doesn't that mean you the driver is kind of vulnerable, even allowing for a certain degree of protection against small arms etc a main round that might not penetrate the front could surely kill him if it hit the vision block? Great video though, to see how much work it takes to drive ( even if it's considered easy in comparison to other tanks of the day )
That kind of shows the age of the Tigers design. It was not uncommon at that time. T-34 also has direct vision ports, so did the Churchill and the Cromwell. Later Panther models where (I think) the first german tank to have no direct vision ports.
The chances of hitting the vision slit are slim to none, and if you have your tiger in distance of infantry able to accurately shoot at the tank, you have already goofed up.
Yes, the driver is vulnerable. A rotating periscope was used in later Panzer designs. But it wasn't retrofitted to the Tiger 1, not even newly built Tiger 1, and that's probably because the tank designers were overstretched.
If u look through the drivers square sight glass look to the side of it and you can see how thick the armor is.
i would be so bummed to turn up at this museum and have them not blaring the WoT music.
Very interesting,amazing films,really well done.
i didnt realize tiger had controls kind of like a car, did all tanks in war like this? Cause i just imagine levers and pedals rather than steering wheel. Goes show you tanks a lot more complex in wwii than I originally thought
Great vid and thanks to the wargaming folks for sponsoring it meow. I just recently got latest newsletter from the Tank Museum in my mail - and I'm a cat! meow! We're so lucky to have captured and retained and preserved this beautiful piece of machinery. Now if only there was a full functional king tiger-meow!
TheXtraMan99 lol, indeed...meow.
Chester Kitty sadly he didnt get it
Emmett Ochrach-Konradi haha-meow! ;)
Emmett Ochrach-Konradi much like a neutered dog he doesnt get it
Chester Kitty There is a fully functional king Tiger
This the first "inside a tank" video I have watched and I was curious as to the radiation warning sticker on the gauge at 1:35.
Radium on the numbers so they glow in the dark.
For shows and stuff why dont they mount a small wide angle driving cam in front of the drivers position linked to a pc monitor inside the tank? No one outside would notice the difference.
For historic purposes i guess. This tank is like a temple, and the god of history says DO NOT MODIFY MY TEMPLE, EVEN FOR A SHOWTIME
@@Weisior Not really modification to throw an ipad up over the window and a 1080p webcam pointing out of the tiny viewing slot. (or any viewing slot where you can't see a black webcam hiding behind it)
I didn't realize they had a Mine laying option in there (Minenabwurfschaft) easter egg?
I know it's ben a year, but I will answer anyway. It's not for laying mines in the conventional sense. They used S-Minen (bouncing bettys) for defence against infantry swarming the tank.
Essentialy, they stuff a S-Mine into that shaft and fire it. It would jump out, detonate after about 1.5 meters and shower the tank and it's suroundings with shrapnell. The tank itself would not be harmed by that, any infantry man in the vicinity however...
Bird_Dog Ah yeah, that makes sense, I have seen replicas of those mines and they do some nasty damage. Thanks for taking your time to clear this up!
Tigers built up to the middle of 1943 had launcher tubes for S-mines. They were at the corners of the hull; the tubes on the turret have nothing to do with this.
The commander would launch these mines individually using a hand-held controller. The controller box was on a cable attached to the firewall.
There was a clip on the firewall to hold the controller, and that label "Minenabwurfschaft" identifies it.
But we have two problems;
1. Tiger 131 is missing the S-mine system and probably never had it fully installed.
2. The restorers have put that "Minenabwurfschaft" label out of place.
@@daveybyrden3936 alright, this is what I am talking about. Someone who cares to educate and rake the time for great detail, thanks! Much appreciated 🙏
I'm pretty sure panther airsoft in Vancouver Canada has a German tank or two... I forsure see the sdkfz 251 infantry.
Yes if you see inside the german tanks its looks like mercedes or bmw. And the Uk tanks are just rubbish.. It 100 cables and pipes here and there .. How to repair it must be not easy.. .. and the tiger has a steerring wheel that is very ergonomical to have.. and they got also a fan to remove gas.. no other contries had that.. the german was in front of everything almost.
The first decent tank that the brits made was the Comet. After that they got the hang of it with things like the Centurion which was one of the best tanks of its time.
still lost though
If Germany focused on developing Panther tanks, they would’ve won ww2. Unfortunately they made developments on maus and E 100 which were just slow tanks.
@@anthonyromeo1988 Germany would've done well against a lot of countries 1v1, but I wouldn't say they could take _anyone_
@@anthonyromeo1988 you never asked me anything, what are you talking about? Oh p.s. it's would've, not would of.
The radioactive icon at 1:36 is very strange. Why did they put it on the glass?! 😲
because the instruments were painted with radioactive paint (radium) to glow in the dark
Awesome video, Challenger! I've never seen another video that shows the interior of the Tiger in such close detail.
I have a question, though: why is there a "radioactive" sticker on the large, multicolored gauge to the left of the oil pressure gauge?
Absolutely
So in real life the Tiger was a formidable tank that even into the last days of the war terrified and destroyed Allied tanks everywhere. Yet in the game the Tiger is a difficult and hard to play tank that is easily flanked and destroyed by anything over tier 5. Why WarGaming?!
They should have made it Tier 6 with the shorter 88. Would be far better. Like with the VK 30.02 (M) that is like the actual Panther.
Luigi99MX It would be balanced that way. The VK 30.02 (M) is fine so why wouldn't the Tiger be? That way it would at least have mediocre armor instead of totally crappy like now.
It wasn't so terrifying after d-day. The panther and King tiger were the terrifying ones.
www.quora.com/Is-a-Tiger-tank-realistically-as-effective-against-Sherman-tanks-as-shown-in-Fury
Der Tiger wurde meistens per Kurbel gestartet weil ansonsten der Maybach hl 230 (Flugzeug Triebwerk) wegen Öl rückstände kaput ginge aber man konnte ihn (war für Notfall gedacht) von ihnen starten
I imagine the original glow-int-the-dark paint would have used radium or another similar radioactive element that gives off light
didnt know that too start a tank mutch had to be made, not mentioning the checks ups and inspections mutch respect for tank drivers
Only on special events, like "Tiger Day"
no that ended up in British hands after the war (just the hull as no turret was fitted to it) and after a few months testing,it was scraped!
How do I stop the crappy background music?
+harmless carrot
The music is from World of Tanks online game.
you cant
Rotate the meister switch to off and put the right fuel selector lever in the Roman numeral I position.
Awesome. Just awesome
really good and informative, but strewth, the music! great IDs though.
Great video well done guys
Cannot brain this tank so superb
The Germans and this tank was so advanced, they even put a triangle warning sticker on the oil gauge before those stickers were invented.
Itvwould be cool to have and inside Chieftain hatch on the Tiger still. Wonder why he hasnt done one?
Wao, this thing was so complicated
Guessing your talking about the dial with the radiation sign on it, Its probably a Radium dial that the figures are painted on using a radioactive material that illuminates in the dark like a glow stick. As long as the glass is intact and you don't lick the paint on a regular basis you should be fine.
Need one (or two) :). Awesome wideo!
Can you please answer a question? Why a tank would have a steering wheel as the position of the wheels is fixed in one position and Tanks steer use levers
There are 3 surviving vehicles as far as i know, 1 in Bovington, 1 in Fort Benning (USA) and one in Kubinka Tank Museum in Russia.
Finally he wents inside
Lol.... Is that tatty Clansman Radio Selector box cable-tied just to the right of the drivers position at 0:50 original equipment???? :)
+Craig Morgan Lol, nope
When will part V arrive ? :)
Excellent show btw, many thanks :thumbs up!:
Ngl, when I got the first glance at the thumbnail I though I saw KJU chillin in a tank.
I think he asks because to the right of the driver there is a radioactivity sign on one of the instruments/tachos.
My guess: It's the paint. I know that the tachos on some German night fighter planes used low radioactive paint that glows in the dark.
Ironic isn't it....THE most popular exhibit is the German Tiger.Primarily because the Allied tanks were of little importance.
Most likely the LEOPARD II's today are THE best tank of the modern era.
If Germany was allowed to build their own fighters...they too would be the best jets available.(Sweden a small country STILL makes one of the best modern tanks ...
Nothing ironic about it. It's one of the best-looking tanks ever made.
OK we're finally in...cool.
ty for this!
Now we know why America so smart. Much of our stuff based on German engineering from days (wars) gone by, including pretty much everything we have (and sell) today. So, thank you all to Germany, for your unappreciated, and original, engenuity. So take a bow Von Braun, Krupp, VW, Porsche, Mercedes, Bayer, and etal. We love you guys, really. Our stock market thinks so, too.
Some people don't know we took a lot of German scientists in after the war, in Operation Paperclip. IIRC some V1/V2 rocket engineers even worked at NASA to help put man on the moon.
These are great! Thanks!
What an awesome machine, I think every German was born and engineer
Imagine if the Germans could of built more of them , solved the reliability issue's and had the fuel to fulfill their thirsts . Same for their jets and rocket's.
Looks like there's three. The rightmost pedal is a lot larger than the other two.
Good to see the face of the bloke operating the clutch so badly! I have to say, he fully matches my preconceptions about him watching movies of Tiger 131 moving. I hope, one day the Tiger pays him back the bad treatment by some decent head banging.
He's one of about 4 people alive that's driven a Tiger. I don't think any armchair expert can do better than him.
Love these!
did the late-war tiger tanks have some kind of shranpnel launchers outside, to kill enemy infantry? Basically some kind of handgrenades which are suspended outside the armor, which would attack enemy infantry close-by the tiger tank?
No
Yes, S-mines
So would they have had soldiers outside warming the tiger up during the bulge so the thing would start?
i wonder if the drivers used more the steering wheel or the tiller sticks. for a tank the wheel seems pretty weird to me...
Does it come with cup holders and heated seats?
Suprised this doesent have as many views as the first vid
There was only a chassis of an E-100 ever made. The engineers determined that the tank was simply too heavy for the engines of the day. The project was canceled in favor of the Maus in early 1945.
If you go to the tank museum can you get inside it
Why was there a radioactive sign on one of the pressure "clocks"? Sorry for the wrong words! 😅
+Alpha Chinoz (Alphachinoz) Apparently it was painted with radium paint so it would glow in the dark.
+Kaeben Ugh, radium paint. Glowing in the dark, before it was cool :D
Woow now i am soo intresting what te e100 got but sadly it never was used and i thought not maked only bleu prints but i think there is place for a swiming pool in that tank ;)
Great video :) And may I ask you a question? Don't you know if there's any real JagdTiger from WorldWar II or are they all destroyed? Thanks :)
i never expected tank to have actual steering wheel,i always though it was like 2 lever thing to move track backward/forward
is there horn button in the tank or any horn at all?
The master power switch looks exactly like the one you could find in Wolkswagen Transporters, these things:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Type_2
Is there coming episode of actual start and some ride around as he was mentioning?
Nice Tiger,very nice
I want more details of jeemman tiger super tanks
THNX!
There are some 1 in the bovington tank museum another one at the USarma ordnace museum but i think this would be too far away from Czech Republic huh ^^ just google it i found this informations on the german and english wikipedia.
The start reminds me of starting my DT 125 1984 🤣
good video
Could the driver steer the tank while his head was out of the hatch, because the hatch is offset.
no, they explained that this wasn't possible in part ii or iii
we want to see/hear it roar!!

it what the paintings are original ?i'm very interested by that for modelthx
It has been repainted inside and out, using colours very similar to the originals.
If Tiger's checklist impresses you, go have a look at a B-29's. :)
I just noticed something. The Bovington museum guy hasn't got a single gray hair. Hacks i say!
1:27 why the radioactive sign ?
A lot military gauges are have the numbers or markings painted with I believe is iridium. This is so that they glow in the dark. It is also very toxic but has only a very low level or radioactivity.
grooveclubhouse I really don't want to be a dick, but, how the hell did you get iridium and radium mixed up? They used radium for gauges!
@@micksquizzy I'm sure lots of people don't even know what iridium or radium are, let alone the difference between them.

the checklist on a tank are almost the same as a checklist on a light aircraft

When can we expect to see the next episode ? :)
you can go inside the turret of a chieftain as a regular visitor.
What's with the Radiation symbol sticker on the the engine Tachometer?
You can’t even compare a tiger 1 cannon to a Sherman m4 cannon 😂😂
Squidy Having a Bigger Gun doesn't mean it's a win. It's about experience on how to win a battle with tactics and how skillful a Tanker can respond to their enemy.
@@Romanov117 I'm saying 1v1 a tiger would absolutely destory a Sherman no joke
@@squidy4082 The strength of the tiger tanks notwithstanding; the number of allied tanks built (50,000 Sherman tanks between 1942 and 45) and over 57000 variants of the T-34 built for the red army) was more than a match for the panzers that managed to make it to the battlefield without breaking down or running out of fuel. That war was one of attrition and Germany was never able to overwhelm the allies in terms of war production.
