Most people are so naive about Huck Finn it's sad. Jim is the most noble character in the book very intentionally. Twain was writing an anti-racist book in an extremely racist time, and chose to do it in a way that the point would sneak under the radar of his audience.
Yeah definitely. Somewhere I heard Louis C.K. very eloquently explain why Huck Finn was important as an anti-racist book. Twain himself was a member of the Anti-Imperialist League, very forward thinking and smart to have written a book that could trick racist readers into feeling sympathy for Jim.
Jim is indeed the most noble character. Huck values him as a friend, despite the fact that conventional white society tells Huck that it is wrong to regard Jim a friend (i.e., an equal), that it is wrong to help Jim escape. Nobody is telling Huck that it is white society that is grievously in the wrong, so Huck, a social outcast, comes to the conclusion that he himself is fundamentally flawed. Huck must choose between "virtue", as defined by white society, or Jim...and he chooses Jim. Huck is not a racist. The climax of the book occurs when Huck, recognizing that he has offended Jim, humbles himself by asking Jim's forgiveness. At that point, Huck is acknowledging that Jim is his moral superior. Bravo, Huck.
@@vitamin3076 You are ignoring three important elements: One, Huck helped Jim escape. Two, when Jim talked about his distress that his wife and children had been sold away from him, Huck felt empathy for Jim. Three, Huck, ashamed of himself for offending Jim, offered a sincere, humble apology. All three elements defied conventional racist white culture of the timed place. Huck was a decent human being. Tom, however, was a manipulative narcissist, driven by self-interest.

Mark Twain lived in a house in the city next to where I grew up. He had an elevator in it - the 1st one in a residence ever. He liked new gadgets, so his friendship w Tesla makes sense.
Reading Huck Finn as a kid was the first time I understood fairness. While they're camped one evening they catch a rabbit (or something - I can't remember exactly) and cook it. @Jordan Rogers Agreement under pressure, is not agreement. It's quid pro quo and it's kind of embarrassing! It's simply people agreeing to anything if it means the difference between getting and losing a job. Haven't you ever agreed to an employment condition which came back to cause you issues later? Even something as small as agree to work nights and weekends would amount to the same thing. The thing is, even by his own admission, Louis CK held these women hostage with potential jobs and career advancement. Shit, Stormy Daniels admitted fucking a wrinkled and saggy Trump because she thought it would help get her on the Apprentice! Quid pro quo is not agreeing.
Crucify me if you must, but if you agree to someone's kink under no real pressure and you do it, you don't get to publicly humiliate them globally 10+ yrs later, destroy their career just because you regret doing it with them and shout "Me two" from the rooftops.
I remember when the story first broke and I’d read articles and be like ok that’s weird and not cool but am I missing something? He didn’t even just whip it out, he asked and they consented. Thoreau literally survived on his own With minimal to no contact for years at a time communing with nature and was against people putting themselves in debt till they were put in the ground and left their debt to their poor children. Unlike materialistic, sadsack london. How can you even compare the two?
Also! London was a good bullshitter. Thoreau was a man far ahead of his time and we'd all be better off today had we listened to his genius at the time.
WOW, Disneyland at Anaheim California in the 1980's had Tom Sawyer island I was 10 and it was my favorites thing. Basically parents left 10ylds alone a couple hours at Disney Land. That island was ruthless.
I am doubly impressed by guys like Louis and Jon Stewart who can teach us profound things while being extremely funny! As for the fact that he STILL kept showin' his peniz to girls that didn't want to see it, obviously that was wrong and the massive hit that brought to his career and reputation was well-deserved. But I'll still watch his stuff. I'd be happy to pay to see him. He makes a relevant point in this very sketch - People should be judged and valued based on more than just the biggest mistake that they've ever made. ( side joke: ".. but screw one sheep and your Shamus the sheep-f****r for the rest of your life" )
I admit, I've found neither Louis or Jon Stewart funny at all. They'll get a smile or chuckle out of me once in a while, but usually it comes across as unfunny commentary to me. But I acknowledge that they are both brilliant comedically, are original, and like most comedians, speak about greater truths.
The main thing everyone gets wrong is that everything he did was consensual. People can claim they felt “pressured” to do something, but if you aren’t forced then there is no wrong doing. It’s like if someone “pressured” you to steal, you’d still get in trouble for stealing. You still chose to do that without being forced. If they were forced there could be charges and obviously there were no charges to press and he only suffered the “woke cancel” , but made another great special and everyone still loves him , so obviously no one bought into that whole story.
Guys the women he jerked it in front of he asked them if he could do it. They said yes. Asking and getting a yes isn't the same as just flashing people...what was wrong about it was he was using his power in the business which swayed them to say yes.
Now I know the origin story of his problem. Started at 8 years old and compelled to feel guilt and keep doing it in adulthood. I hope things get better for him and his family.
I've been pissed, or something, with Louis since the whole thing came out, I think partly because he should have got in front of it in 2012 when Gawker published that blind piece. He definitely would have taken a little hit, but not as big as now, obviously, with the climate so rapacious. He is still one of the funniest men who ever drew breath, though.
He’s a mediocre standup - at best. It’s hacky AF to play the inept father on stage and that’s his whole fucking act. Inept father who shits himself and is unlucky with the ladies. Wow! So amazing.
The sad thing is that the Louis Ck situation serves as a clear example to all men who have made mistakes in their past that owning up to those mistakes and apologizing is not worth the lifetime of stigma and scrutiny when you can just deny and let it blow over. We should be encouraged people to come forward and admit their wrongdoings with a forgiving attitude if we expect any change. But I guess that’s not our style. We like people to get involuntarily busted...

Patrick = fucking Nostradamus
tahts exactly what bothered me about that "scandal", he didnt ever pretend to be something he wasn't
@@je-pq3de he talked about masturbating all the time. that was some of what I laughed hardest at. I'd let him.
The delivery is amazing here. He describes Huckleberry showing up in a book like an annoying colleague that you have been trying to avoid 😂😂
Wow. He showed it again, and again, and again. Prescient.
10 years ago and he was just blowing up in a major way. Than a few years later it all went to shit. What a kick in the nuts
The king of comedy.
Louie C.K. was 8 years-old starting in fall of 1975. He lived in Framingham, MA at the time, the Kentucky Fried Chicken in question would have to be the one on MA RT-30, 149 Cochituate Rd, Framingham…
I really can't get over how funny 😂😂😂
I will love to see mark twain louis ck Richard Pryor and Dave chappelle in same room talking comedy
I like how the audience keeps changing back and forth
2022 and still loving and supporting LCK.
what a legend. he made a bit where he dropped the n word with the hard R multiple times and not get booed by using mark twain as a shield.
And this aired on television, FX channel. I miss his show Louis, it was getting real dark near the end
2011 was a very different time.
😂
This has been out for over 9 years and I never knew!!! And he's still alive? Me too is fucking powerful man.
He just dropped a special not to long ago n it’s epic
That last joke aged quickly.
Not one bit.
"I'm channeling Bill Cosby right now."
Oh no, Louis.
that's a true story, btw. he's told it many times on Opie & Anthony and elsewhere
...his "Cosby" was soo freakin' good! 🤣
when i was 8, and then again when i was 50.
Louie started early with that showing it to girls
goodness, it's incredible how that incident made me unconsciously neglect this greatness.
Man this guy really TUGS at my heart strings
He does an excellent Bill Cosby impression.
In more ways than one, unfortunately.
I’m gonna miss Louis C.K
I used to write on the wall of my room when I was 8 but stopped doing that when I realized it was wrong
3:20 ooh so much foreshadowing
I wonder how many of us have those "When I was 8" stories?
Just laughing along with the jokes and the memory came flooding back. Have to admit selfishly I'm glad mine doesn't nearly as bad.
Wanna share your story with the class ?🥸
@@golhandincmen who wants to read that boring ass story
@@flatterswhite I want to.
@@golhandincmen if it was really worth sharing then surley he'd just make that his comment
@@flatterswhite maybe he was waiting for an eager ear ? And don't call me Shirley.
I was not expecting that turn of events toward the end.
I see everyone saying “wow this didn’t age well”. The last time he did anything to anyone was over 10 years ago. It’s in the past. Let it go
@Let it go - Said the 8 year old to the down syndrome girl.
@@polreamonn He said he showed it to her; he didn't say he let her touch it.
But if you're just coming across it 3 years ago...or today, it's more than a little self-revealing.
I'll let it go as soon as I hear that he's changed.
@@crunchygods changed since when? The last time he asked a woman to watch him was somewhere between 2006 and 2008. He’s also talked about how he regrets his actions. It’s now 2022, not sure what you’re looking for.
How apropos Louis, how comedically apropos.
Incredible impressionist. And he gets away with anything because … context.
Because…skill
@@laxjs the skill of putting things in a carefully worded context
Well there’s a moment of foreshadowing
Lmao was saying the same thing
3:30 …not just once, Louis, not just once…
“Still the kid that did that “
dont care, still the best. come back!
He is back.
"I am still the dude who did that" - Child is father of the man.
It blows my mind to contemplate that I have been only one person through time. It wasn't someone else, it's been you all along.
Man.. how can this dude be ao amazing? You see, he actually kills with impressions! But almost never does that. I think it's because he's so damn clever that stuff like doing voices seem ordinary and boring to him actually. But the bits where he uses them... Come on
One of the greatest comedians
"If I did it yesterday....." Yeah Louie, chances are you did.
yup
I love how unapologeticly honest Louis CK is.
This video has convinced me to start reading my kids Huck Finn.
pure genius. thx,Louie.
I get how the women could be like wtf that’s not cool man but aligning themselves with women who have been raped abused and blackballed is reaching, for sure.
If I heard this bit back in 2002 I would have aced my Huckleberry Finn book report
Why did I read "Fuck Him"...
Guy just to the left of Louis keeps growing and shaving his buzz cut. Pretty impressive super power.
jesus christ , goes to show you how deeply entrenched this shit was , jack london and thoreau were the same !
deano dog ... Can you post some verification of this?
deano dog jack london was an overweight alcoholic who's never ever in his miserable life went out in the wild.
I guess what deano dog meant was that Thoreau and London were both racist.
WOW, Disneyland at Anaheim California in the 1980's had Tom Sawyer island I was 10 and it was my favorites thing. Basically parents left 10ylds alone a couple hours at Disney Land. That island was ruthless.
Disney florida still has it.
Huck Finn was a free spirit. Not sitting in class learning to be an employee.
I love the fact that he tells on himself long before he would be…..exposed 😂
I thought norm told you "Just make huck a black kid"
Louis CK doing a Bill Cosby impression. Sheeeesh
Wow, so meta!
CK is just brilliant
Now I know the origin story of his problem. Started at 8 years old and compelled to feel guilt and keep doing it in adulthood. I hope things get better for him and his family.
Except it wasn't consensual when he was 8
@@lukess.s The power dynamic certainly existed with both.
LMAO - the fucking best!!!! Louis CK #1 comedian!
Because his allegations affect you so much? Every one fucks up. Some worse than others but they can always redeem themselves with time
Nx Doyle ... You might want to use a different word to describe the present climate.
He’s a mediocre standup - at best. It’s hacky AF to play the inept father on stage and that’s his whole fucking act. Inept father who shits himself and is unlucky with the ladies.
Wow! So amazing.
He's back
The sad thing is that the Louis Ck situation serves as a clear example to all men who have made mistakes in their past that owning up to those mistakes and apologizing is not worth the lifetime of stigma and scrutiny when you can just deny and let it blow over. We should be encouraged people to come forward and admit their wrongdoings with a forgiving attitude if we expect any change. But I guess that’s not our style. We like people to get involuntarily busted...
"If I did that yesterday".. ironic.
