There is so much going on in the shop right now that I am just now getting around to posing a new video for this week. It's hard to keep up hahaha Like I said I'll get something going today or tomorrow with close ups and some long winded discussion about the tools. Thanks for staying with us brotherman. I have been getting a lot of people that say I talk too much... like they are so busy with... what ever it is that they do.
Hey Matt - Glad I watched your video on this. I have always done my binding slots on the pin router and then cut the contours with a purfling cutter set which can be labourious. I have just bought some bearings to go with my stock of 80/20 extrusion cos I love your design - Great stuff, talk about labour saving. Keep up the good work and stay safe. Dave
Yeah, I based my jig off of the Luthier tool company's version. Except, I used some extrusion laying around the shop, which was series 30, black tee slot. Lots of cutting drilling and tapping. Wish youtube allowed photos in the comment section!
Dude, it's easy... and fun! Stewmac charges, like 400 bucks for this kinda thing. You can make one for considerably less and if you like making stuff, well, you got that going for you too.
Hi Matt, what's the trick to install the binding with the fabric top? That acetone technique? Seems that would goof up the sealer near the edge of the top. Thanks for all the great vids!
Really cool tool. Is the weight of the router enough to keep it down to the body, or does it have some hidden springs in there somewhere providing some tension?
Thanks Tom, the router is weight enough. You certainly could incorporate some springy things to help the rig. Give it a try and let me know. I might have to try it too
We just reverse engineered the Stewmac unit. There were no plans we just flew by the seat of our pants. Check out the Open Builds site and see if you come up with any ideas. I'll try and come up with some kind of drawing or, at least. take some more detailed pics if you need them.
Texas Toast Guitars I like StewMac but we need some companies to compete with them to get some lower prices. Rocklers overpriced too, maybe you're too nice cause I would have demanded the manager and let them fucking have it.
Awesome and better version of the stewmac trimmer, Idon't know why they make there's so shallow it's annoying. I actually really dig your other binding jig it looked really stable.
I have a old Jackson Kelly i would like to bind will this work with it’s beveled edges? This is my 1st guitar, it was cheap and now my project guitar for fun.
It really depends on how much round-over your body has and how thick the binding you are going to use is. I have a customer that is sending me a guitar for a new top and binding, I'll do some videos and hopefully that will answer your questions
ok now a question (maybe a dumb question) but when installing the binding do you have to cut it to install it around the arm rest or how does that work.
Looking forward to the new binding video, especially how you built that jig, thanks.

Glad it helped David, keep me posted

Sounds cool man
Yeah, this is the best way to go for this operation... thanks man. Open builds is a cool site too...
Thanks for watching Jon Q, I always come up with ideas when I look at the Open Builds site.
No problem man. I've been able to step my game up on my craftsmanship in quality and time savings by videos like these, so I'm thankful.
Very nice Matt
Have to construct one of your binding tools, any closeups pics or additional info especially the plastic piece under the router.
I have got to some neck binding this afternoon I'll see if I can get some video, sound good?
Matt that freaking Rules... I wanna build one now

The trick to binding a fabric top is, as far as I know, absolutely the acetone technique. The sealer is pretty resilient, give it a try sometime amigo

Great vids BTW. Hey can you send some close up still shots of that donut?
Hi Richard, thanks for watching. If you send me am email I'll get you some pictures... texastoastmatt@gmail.com
Pretty guitar, love fabric tops. Any way to get the plans for the jig? Is that trim router? Thanks Matt.

I have never used the stewmac one... is it just not deep enough?
Can you give some advice on where to find the donut? Thanks.
We had to make ours Stephen
Best binding video on RUclips without anyone wearing latex and leather... 4 out of 5 stars. Lol
Hahaha

Nope no cutting at all, just a little bending. If you can bend around the horns bending around the couture is a snap.
I don't think you can do that to Randy^^.
Ill buy the old jig if you still have it
I have no idea where that old one is brotherman
Hey Matt.... I`ll bet you can get Attachments and other parts for that from ROCKLER....
Ewww not going to set foot in a Rockler if short dicks every cannibal on the Congo!
Did you already get rid of that old binding jig? I'll buy it right now.
I think it is still out in the paint booth?
This one looks like it'll fit my shop better 😂
Totally
hi Matt can you supply a parts list
I'm still sick in bed got a rotten flu bug or something. Let me see what I can do
Yes, could you please?
Great jig! For those in the UK the mechanical parts for this jig can be obtained from a company called OOZNEST.co.uk and it is really cheap.
Good on you William, I always forget that y'all might have some trouble getting these same parts in the UK
Where have you been all my life?
HAHA I don't know how old you are, but we are having fun with the videos stick around and have fun
@@TexasToastGuitars Only 53, that's all! And yes, this channel is a hell of a lot of fun. Hook 'em ... \m/
