Wow Brian that is amazing. Would have loved to have met him, I’m sure he would have had some brilliant stories to tell. Glad you enjoyed the video. We hope we managed to get it as accurate as possible. Great to have you onboard. Thanks for your kind comment 👍
@@gepxplore9710 oh yes lots of good memories, happy ones too, it looks so different now, very sad to see it all gone. I did take a trip up to Mentmore road a few years ago, I nearly cried I can tell you. I do have a couple of pictures of the signal box and the railway crossing keepers' house. that was a great-looking place. thank you for your message, good luck, stay safe. I wonder if you live there???
Brilliant video. My great grandfather was a train driver on this exact route. As a child I remember the old style station at Leighton. As late as 1990 there was still signs directing passengers to the Dunstable platform. It was very short sited to get rid of this branch line!
Hi Greg. Thank you for your kind comment. Wow that’s brilliant that your Great Grandfather was a driver on the route. Would have loved to chat to him I think many of us would love to go back in time and see it for ourselves as He would have seen it. I know Andy has more up his sleeve for future videos in the months to come from Dunstable to Luton so stay tuned for when we can get the next instalment. Click on subscribe if you have not already so as not to miss it. We call the busway the “mis guided busway”. A very sad day when the branch line was mothballed. Very sad. Stay safe.
Loved this first part. You have a great eye Gavin for old buildings. A trip into the past. Good stuff Andy and I really liked your friends photos. My brother in law loves steam trains and will really enjoy these vids. Thanks again. Looking forward to part 2. 😁
What a fantastic video - Thanks . I actually grew up next to that line from 1969 - My mum still lives there . (Finch Crescent Linslade) The line still had the track intact and the signal boxes /crossing at wing road and Mentmore road where still there - The coal yard was also still there - I remember the summer when they actually removed the track ... That whole line and area was our playground throughout my childhood - Especially Black Bridge across the canal -----Brilliant days - many thanks for showing all of this You have to wonder what was in the mind of the IDIOT who actually made these LINES close
Hi Mick. so pleased you enjoyed the video. We love making them, but the icing on the cake are comments like your one. Thank you for sharing your memories with us too. Idiot is a good description of the decision they made back in the day to close these wonderful railways down. SO much has been lost, hopefully we have managed to bring some of it back to life. Stay tuned, Andy is a busy man, but we will get to the next part of the railway eventually :)
Its really good you made the video - The area between Leighton Station and Wing road was the route i walked to school - the massive wall including the little tunnel for the stream going under is something i haven't seen for 50 years - also that small piece of the LB station boundary fence ( made with railway sleepers ) used to go right along the adjoining recreation ground - I used to climb over it every day to get onto the old footbridge those were better days im living up north now - there are many wonderful old lines just like that one up here thanks again - ill show this to my mum too
I live in leighton buzzard and learnt so much new history on the town . Thanks for uploading 👍
