Thank you SO MUCH for doing this video. Like you, I purchased a game, two games, one I could NOT get to download, even with the help page suggestions. I finally gave up last night, and requested an immediate refund for next Monday, hopefully they will give it. Tnen I saw your video this morning, and sent an email telling them I had not seen the "Free trial" box, and thus had not unchecked it, and to immediately cancel my membership, which would be up at the end of this month, so, hopefully they will. I also let them know I will not be buying from them again due to their misleading practices, and will also be discouraging others from buying from them for this reason, and encouraging a boycott of their products.
I've been buying and downloading from Bigfish games for about 16 years. I have never had a issue. You have to download the bigfish games app. If you have never played, the first time you buy a game they give you directions to download the game and etc. You have to register yes, but all you have to buy is the game/s you want. You will have a game queue and history to download the games you get. ALWAYS save the e-mails from bigfish and put them in a seperate folder, that way you can go back and get the key code just incase you have to download again. The last game I bought is about a year ago. This is NOT a scam site. Ofcourse its a bit harder, because they are older games. It's not a Iphone, where you just press one button and play. I have over 20 games from Bigfish, Playfirst, Shockwave and etc.
I've been buying games from them since 2011 and I've been able to skirt the forced membership issue, though I eventually just signed up since my wife plays a ton of HOPA games. I'm not a fan of BFG's business model and I would prefer to buy HOPA games from Steam since a vast majority of my games are on there, but they never seem to go on sale on Steam. Unfortunately, the "free trial" and aggressive marketing to sign up is a common issue with a lot of businesses, especially gaming and music industries.
Okay, but my question is: Where else can I find games like they have on their site without shady tactics and viruses? I have tried to search in so many places for a decent alternative, but I don't know who to trust and I don't want to make these types of mistakes again! Yes, I know some games are available on Steam, but sadly there isn't enough of them to make up for it. I'm not even sure where is the place to get abandonware copies of old Playrix games without putting my computer at risk! Can anyone provide me any recommendations for BFG alternatives?
I have been a member for years and have never had an issue and you get the discounts if you are a member, if you aren't a member then you don't get them and you have to make sure to uncheck the box if you don't want the membership, and the membership is free to sign up then you are charged 6.99 per month Yes the trial is to show you the perks you get, such as discounts, they don't auto give it to you, you have to uncheck it, it's your fault for not paying attention.
Me either. And my first game was purchased from them in 2006. And if anything ever isn't right, write to them and they are always there to fix your issues. They are most definitely NOT a scam and this is very misleading.
You do have to read the print closely. But it does give you the option to uncheck the box. I always read the fine print so I always uncheck it and I do end up paying a little bit more for the game but that's alright with me. I have about 20 games on Big Fish. However, my Grandma is a Casual Game master and she started with Big Fish Games! She has had their Membership for 6 years now (She gets a free credit for a free game every-time the cycle resets, she automatically gets 30% off all games, she gets a nice Punch Card and if you buy 6 SE games or 2 CE games you'll get a free game, and you also get $2.99 Daily Deal Games and $2.99 Weekly Deal Games.) It's not a bad service, but you really have to use it, like my Grandma has as she currently has 500 games, and counting, from Big Fish Games (If you don't believe me I'll gladly screenshot her purchase history and put a link here.) They ARE NOT a scam service!! I hate it when people call it a Spam Service, to be honest. But you do have to be careful and watch what you check before you buy something. But if you are looking for Casual Games, Big Fish Games is the way to go as they release a new game EVERYDAY! Steam can't compete, although Steam sells more Hard-Core type games as well, so they have the advantage there.
I was a long time member of BIG GISH GAMES and bought hundreds of games over the years. I loved this site! Until one day I ended up having a problem with a box popping up saying that I was trying something I couldn't do and it would shut down any game I wanted to play......INCLUDING the ones I bought!!! I had no idea what was going on and apparently they didn't either and just stopped talking with me about it after a while. I lost ALL THE GAMES I BOUGHT (because you still have to check into the website to use them and I couldn't) and also many free games I was due because you get a free game every time you're charged for the month for membership!!! Hundreds of dollars lost!!! This happened a good couple of years ago and I'm still in shock over it....
The same thing happened to me I got in touch and sent a snippet of the email I received. They said they did not know why it was sent, they were sorry my account was not closed. I'm still with Bigfish and still playing games. The 2.30 games are for member only.
I was just Checking for no reason if i can trust this shop and i found this Video, almost made the same mistake ... that Checkbox is a well crafted trap i usually read everything but its easy to oversse even if its perfectly in your screen... idk my brain treated it like an add and i wasn't paying attention to it. So thank you!
Exact same thing happened me. I bought a game n they automatically took £3.99 per mth out of my bank alc. I didn't realise this for ages. I contacted them several times, but no joy. Eventually l went to my bank n explained what they'd done n got the payt's stopped. This is just a scam n they should be held accountable n made to repay all the money that they stole.
I've been a big fish member and I have HAD no ISSUES with this company what so ever.. 13 years I have been with Big Fish Games I enjoy paying the 6.99 a month for discounts and free games I do miss the game punches though but I had 11198 points that count for buying games
I didn't notice that I was added as a Big fish member until I looked at my paypal account 13 months later. I brought this to their attention through an email and they were willing to refund me as long as I gave them the month / date and order number for each month that they withdrew money out of my account. It was a bit of a hassle but I was glad to get refunded at the end.
Ha, You didn't bother reading the terms on the purchase and by leaving the checkbox checked you got what you asked for... Now I do find it is rather sneaky that the checkbox is checked by default but you did get the discounted price and during the month of that purchase the club was free, then they started charging like they said they would, as well as having a link detailing that fact (blue link text "* See billing Details") - Personally if it was my site I'd make it Opt-In rather than Opt-Out, and change it to say something like "Click here for a 1 month trial of our Games Club that includes and get 30% off game purchases including this one."
Big Fish potentially costs people their relationships. When my partner quit after a year and a half, he wasn't twice the man, he was 10 times the man. I consequently realised just how much I'd been neglected & how much he'd neglected doing with his life. Like talking to his children, fixing or replacing old or damaged things around the house & making & progressing towards plans for the future. It literally makes me sick. Why did he do this to me yet say he loved me? It feels now like he abused, shunned & isolated me. I becane cooped up in our little home. I couldn't make friends or maintain existing friendships as I drew closer and closer to wanting to eat my own faeces. What it's made me feel is enough to make a person neck themselves. We're done. You will be too. Either that, or you'll stay imprisoned, doubting your value & losing touch with people outside the home because your partner doesn't make friends anymore nor interacts with or tolerates yours, or you, or his kids, or their mother. Life just stops. It just stops. Mark my words cigarettes have Nothing on what a Big Fish adict will do to your life, mark my words they're like a cancer & will deplete you of your happiness & eventually will & ability to live. It eats up everything. Everything.
He only wasted a year and half. I guess there is still time to recover your relationship. Maybe you should also start going to church. I joined a group at church that helps feed the homeless and made good friends there. Also there's a lot of single people there and most of the men in the group are divorced because they had bad wives or wives that were lukewarm when it came to Christianity. You meet a lot of nice people there good way to pass time on the weekend instead of being addicted to games.
I have no idea how your husband got addicted to big fish games though. Most people who get addicted to games are that way because of online functionality. They like to communicate with other people online who for the most part if you're playing an FPS or MMO are probably delinquents. I've been addicted to gaming too but not because of online chat or group party's but something even more addictive free to play games. Games like Hearthstone and Shadowverse where you're obligated to play and do quest if you want to earn gold/crystals to buy card packs. And when you buy the packs your decks are still meh and that makes you play more because you have to make and test several decks to be somewhat competitive with the crappy cards you have. Honestly online functionality is the worst things about games. Before I could play a game like Runefactory on my DS and play for 1-2 hours before bed and be good, it was a lot of fun and I felt like I actually made progress in the game unlike these F2P games that make you play and play more and u virtually progressed very little. I already quit Shadowverse now it's time to quit Hearthstone.
