Yea, I too would say that was a special moment! Real good footage of the dolphins under the surface of the calm water. This video makes me wonder what they would have done if you slapped the water a few times yourselves. I bet they were trying to communicate in some way. Splendid!
I found if you whistle they will come close to the boat, also our dog barking seemed to bring them closer. I always feel very privileged when I get close to them
I recently sailed near Cromarty, Moray Firth, on the Brixham Sailing Trawler "Leader". We saw dolphins very similar to you and when relaxed they did start that happy slap effect.
That is a very tender slap ... I saw dolphins slapping the water real hard ... I believe that if they slap it means "get out of here" it may be a sign of aggression ... but scientists do not really have a strict explanation for this nonverbal gesture ... This tail slap seems very tender ... I wonder what that meant ... :-)
Echo location. Ours in North West Florida do not do that in the bay, but will in deeper water in the Gulf of Mexico. I sometimes wonder if it is a gentle warning to sharks and other predators. Nice to hear from you again.
Choctawhatchee Bay is very shallow, about 30 in the channel. I have observed that slapping in very calm about 20 to 30 miles of Destin, Florida. In rough seas you don't see it .
+KeepTurningLeft ,around here (other side of planet), it means they want you to go faster. I also have them charging my bow when I am drifting which I interpret as "come on lets go play" my boat has an inboard diesel which they love, they follow behind taking turns to put their faces into the prop wash. But they also like to bow ride and I have had as many as 9, 5 on the bow and 4 on the stern as we motor sail :) its a common event here but after a lifetime of sailing the Hauraki Gulf I still get a thrill every time.
Hello from the North of Spain. My name is Victor Alvarez.Excuseme my poor English lenguaje.I lenjoy yours proyect of show us the Great Britain´s coast and rivers.Lovely. I own an old 7,5 mts Coronado boat, something similar to the Centaur.I also had, sometime ago,the Volvo MDI motor, with the danger epic great heel.It is a relax discovery on your videos to find ecological country music instead...fool rokandroll percusion. In general, congratulations.Well done.Victor Alvarez
JoeNietzsche anthropomorphism is a risky affair - especially when conducted by humans - however, I do not think they were stressed by us. We were travelling through an area frequented bythe lobster boats and sea kayakers - but not many yachts come in as close to the shore as I get with Katie L
I have come to the conclusion veggie type people go nuts when bacon and eggs are cooked from the lovely smell, it is now clear dolphins register a similar complain of no bacon and egg for breakfast with tail slapping
+Manning Harvey sorry manning - it is hard to make a point about the cultural links between the jacobite revolutions of 1715 and 1745 with the Beverly sisters without playing the beverly sisters. The film is available in another place though.
They seemed to be gentle splats. If it was me and it was warm I would have dropped anchor and gone for a swim.... I think. "Come swim with us. Come on and meet the misses."
It's nice to know that there are moments of peace like this happening on the planet and that there are folks there enjoying it. Thanks for sharing.

What a great way to enjoy breakfast .
Great music. Seemed right.
Great video, breakfast looks great too!
Magical. Did you see any basking shark? When I was in the Hebrides two summers ago we saw at least ten. I heard it was a busy year for them.

Video3HD thanks V, very good man - and a paypal tap as well - excellent D
Amazing.
***** it would be good to know what the low key tail slapping was about. Were they doing that to each other or to us?

your most recent Video has been blocked here in the USA. Any chance you could edit whatever it is so we can see the video.
