Indeed! 6.O Danville does break easily though. When I tie with it after using GSP I can barely keep it intact! Tim is an epic tier. A pleasure to know him and have him at our local Trout Unlimited chapter!
Looks a lot like Roger Hill's Stillborn Midge without the shuck. Instead of discarding the guard hairs, you could save them to use with Hill's pattern.
Well, that is an interesting way of tying those. What I do, is I tie the griffiths gnat as usual but I counter rib the fly with 8 x tippet material. makes makes for a very durable fly and its quick. Thou shoe shoe rabbit foot has its merits. In the end if I have a fly come apart on a 20 inch Rainbow or Brown ok not a problem , I will recycle the hook by tying another fly on it. I figure for a 20 inch trout, I got my money worth out of the fly!
interesting to me that replacing 1 material with another and you get a cataloged new fly with your name on it. But do that with any other fly and its just the same fly with a different material. Example, if I replaced the copper wire on a copper john with colored mono, it would still be a copper john, nobody would allow me to get away with calling it anything else. Or if I replaced the mallard feather on a zoo cougar with a turkey feather, it'd still be considered a zoo cougar....
There are so many tying videos these days that are just remakes and reruns but this fly is truly innovative, nicely done!
Bought my first good fly rod, a 5-wt Orvis HLS, from Matt in the 1990s when he owned an Orvis shop in NJ.
Nice Video, great instruction, really good music
Great looking fly m8!!
So simple, so " fishy" looking and a great idea.

Yeah you would think it’s a size 12

Had great success this weekend, first time using the pattern. Is the GN relevant anymore? Hmmm....

+George Semel exactly, just rib a regular griffins gnat with a very fine mono and you've got an indistructible fly

Hi there I’m new to tying I’ve typed the Kant but sometimes spins and tangles the leader could you please tell me why thank you
How large can this be tied? I often fish a size 16. Is that too Large for this fly?
The tool you use to wrap the dupping rope, where do you find those/ I've looked all over.
looked to be plunger style hackle pliers, they are easy to come across online, and usually for less than it costs to have them shipped to you

Andreas, any time you would use a Euro Knat or Super Pupa. Greetings from the USA! I have been to Norway over 100 times, literally.
