This song means so much to me, I was depressed for a couple of years back and only now I'm starting to feel finally "ok", not happy yet, but I'm not that sad anymore. Not only that, but my dad used to ask me why I wasn't happy with life and I tried to explain so many time that I wasn't unhappy, but I wasn't happy either, I was just "ok", so one day I sent him this song, and I think he understood, because he has never asked me that again.
This song really gives me a good, wholesome message in my dark and sad times, almost as if everything will he okay.

@@ypcsquirrel I used to be, but the song helped me a lot, there's nothing wrong with disliking a genre of music, but I think what's really depressing is putting others down for liking what you don't like, almost like we're completely different people and we won't agree on everything.
I love the line "so I set my bar real low."
It illustrates the picture that you need to start small when getting over things like depression. Eventually, things that seemed monumental in effort seems like "real low."

I know I'm late, but thank you so much for this 🙏 I have a cancer diagnosis and it's been such a horrible year, just between feeling like hell, isolation and VERY few good days, it's been fking hard. I feel like I finally have some people who love me and support me regardless--and this song feels like love. Everyone knows I'm not getting better, but despite it all... I'm way less sad. This song is my "good days", the full band makes me feel alive and the lyrics are just perfect. Simple yet so relatable. I'm not loving life... But I am living every day I can. It may be stupid but it's all I have... These lyrics make me cry and smile at the same time 🙏💕

I have a really amazing friend who introduced me to AJR last few days ago and I already love it, it's so fun, relatable and so interesting, I personally love I won't, Steve's going to London and Drama and honestly they've done an incredible job, I know I'd never see them live but seeing such a close and heartfelt group of friends makes me think that they're still is good in this world, weather it comes in the form of an animal or an Adam, Jack or Ryan it makes a difference in our universe, our world and our community and I would like to say that you've done and amazing job and don't listen to anyone who hates or tries changing your music just tell them that you wouldn't, love you guys ❤️

Clever way to sample 'My Little Town' by Paul Simon. Thats where that instrumental hook line comes from folks, if you didn't know. 'Nothing but the dead and dying back in my little town', written by a New Yorker... its not just a nice melody but fits thematically with this lyric.

I think this song is a way healthier than the songs we typically get about depression. Depression is often portrayed as happening to most people because of something bad that happened in their life, and then they get help once and it is like the mental illness is gone! Maybe that happens for some, but for a lot of people, depression doesn’t go away completely. Very, very rarely, it may never actually go away at all. That is terrifying! Many people seem confused by the concept someone can do everything right and still be depressed. They go to therapy constantly, take their meds on time, actively use appropriate coping skills, and always follow the advice of their doctor and yet it doesn’t help. So, what do we do when that happens? What happens when we have tried countless medications, therapies, and treatments and it still doesn’t get any better? Is that the beginning of the journey, or is that the end? This song validates the experiences of those kinds of people. In my opinion, not being happier but being way less sad is a fantastic achievement!
It's just the beginning. It takes a lot of time to realize that there are more ppl going through what you are and still dealing with the same doubt. Success does not have the same measure when you have chronic depression. Wishing you all the best in your daily achievements! And that's how we should measure, day by day going forward not with the yard stick of the past.

I love this song because instead of focusing on “I’m not happy yet”, the upbeat beat makes it sound more like a celebration of the fact that “I’m way less sad” and since as the song suggests, you don’t go from depressed to happy at the flick of a switch it teaches people to celebrate their little victories and the small things they can do to improve their state.

My husband and I were depressed and were at universal Orlando and he was pushing me down the hall in a luggage cart and we went on a carousel. We ended up moving there and doing theme park life. I haven’t showed him this song but I’m excited to show it to him today 😘😘😘

I’ve only been a fan for a few months, but same. Even when I went back and listened to their older songs. Usually I listen to one of their songs for the first time, my reaction is “It’s alright,” but the next day somehow the song pops into my head. So I listen to it again and I love it

this is one of my favorite AJR songs. Everytime i listen, i feel like someone gets me. no im not happy but im also not sad either, im a meh in life and this song describes that feeling perfectly.
I have some kind of Empathic connection to these music videos where you all just jam out to your own music, I have never been big for dancing or just letting my body loose like that. I usually would be way to uncomfortable with myself too, but the lyrics to these songs and the bops that come along with it. Music on blast over my ears as I sing along and just dance. It was a feeling I have never felt before, dancing like that until exhausted on the ground feeling refreshed and happy, and now I am a very bouncy dancer. AJR is my new favorite probably for life, they really bring these lyrics to life, nothing so far has ever made me feel that refreshed and clear minded. I'm thankful, truly. Now I need people to dance and jam with!
