    I love this! My first car was a 1952 Series 1 short wheel base, soft top Landrover. That was back in 1978 and I adored it. It was that classic desert sand colour. You're going to have a ball in this car . . .

    We live in Tassie and have been using Land Rover 2a x2 as work horses for over thirty years.
    They still retained the chromium bores from old, so look after yours and should serve you well.
    Beauty of them is parts still available, one thing to check is the handbrake adjuster, they work their way loose ( loctite) them.

    We had two Kombis, a 63 split screen and a 73, then moved to 4WDs. We had a Series 1 and a Series 3 Landy. In the end we bought a Daihatsu 4WD and a Box trailer with a camper tent on top that got us absolutely everywhere , back in the day. that was in the 70's and we are still vanlifing in our Toyota Hitop camper, Donovan . Just completed a crazy trip from Qld to SA and back, negotiating flood road closures, due to a family emergency, where our van became our little happy , safe space each night. Keep on truckin xx

    Welcome back to SA Guys.
    Land Rover...um... Na, just kidding. I've always had Toyota 4wds but understand the price problems. Years ago in the Off Road Vehicle Club we had heaps of Landy owners and they all loved them. Diffs and axles were always a bit of a problem in work use vehicles. Learn how to change an axle and carry a spare if your going seriously off road a lot. The more weight you add the more chance things break. At least now when you need a mechanic they won't go running to the back of the workshop with their fingers in their ears! ;-)
    Such a big change from a T3 but you're already ahead of the game with great attitudes and a outlook on life. Hope to see ya through the windscreen.
    Now just remember -- Volksfest on the 27th of November!

      Thanks Terry! Thanks for the info! Definitely easier to get parts and mechanics for the landy than the T3 hahaha. See you on the road!

    So exciting! Looking forward to seeing the places you’ll go in a 4x4
    4x4 recovery gear:
    - Maxtraxs (can get you out of most situations and terrains - get the orange ones suitable for 4x4 vehicles)
    - winch (expensive but necessary if no other vehicle around to snatch you out of being stuck)
    - trusty shovel to dig out tyres
    Other 4x4 accessories:
    - tyre deflator (for rocky or beach driving) then an air compressor to pump tyres back up
    - if you want an outdoor shower that can pack up like an awning go to “Kick Ass Products”. This will change your life living on the road.
    - get an after market temperature gauge for a more accurate reading to avoid overheating (depending on your vehicle as some temp gauges don’t move at all!)
    Also recommend checking out “4x4 24/7” RUclips channel if you want to learn more about 4x4ing and recovery.
    Hope some of that helps

    Hi, I am hoping you can lube the front swivel housings with BP Energrease 140.
    its like honey.
    Our LandRover S3 looks like the same as yours,
    and we are doing a camper conversion when we have moved house.
    My oldest Landy is a 1951, which has been in the family since 1957.
    That is a good model, for stability, and conversion.
    I wish you a happy time with the Land-Rover ,
    Cheers from Andrew & Sonya.

    So exciting! My partner and I are travelling in January in our 4x4 and we have gone with the Bush Company rooftop tent. So far we love it and have heard so many good things about it from friends! We did buy a 270 awning but are now going to sell it for a 180 because the 270 is way too big and it also prevents us from accessing the tent from the back of the car (we use both sides of our car for our kitchen etc... so this is annoying having to move the ladder constantly).
    The Bush Company RTT's are pricey but definitely worth it. Setting it up and putting it down takes 30 seconds and I love that we can keep all our bedding/pillows made in the tent.
    Looking forward to watching the build!

    Congrats guys, she's a beauty! I bought my van sight un-seen too. Sometimes you just know! Glad to hear you have plans to have a bed inside too; I got nervous when you said roof top tent as the flapping canvas in the wind can drive you mad! In terms of awnings, you probably are aware of these but I can't recommend enough a batwing 360, 30 second awning. They're awesome, so easy and the coverage you get over your vehicle is amazing! If you get the four walls as well it's like you have a whole little house! Can't wait to watch your journey :)

    • @KendallandGlenn
      @KendallandGlenn  2 года назад +2

      Aww thank you!! Yeah we know the importance of having an option to sleep inside, too many windy nights to do that to ourselves 😂

    I’m thinking of setting up a sweep on when you break your first axle... 🤣😧
    Given most of the outer body panels on a Land Rover are aluminium, but the vehicle is built on an old-fashioned steel ladder frame chassis, there’s not much rust proofing to do. 👍

    Hi Kendall, Hi Glenn - congratulations on your new home/vehicle! I strongly suggest that, instead of a roof top tent that you install a pop top roof with the bed in it (similar to what Jack and Megan have on their Troopy. That would enable you to stand up inside the back of the Landy, it is far more convenient to get in and out of and also it means that Leo can sleep on the Bench as you describe and that you are not separated from him by being outside in a roof top tent. Pop Tops are a greater cost however I think that the convenience and being able to sleep and stand up in the back of the Landy will vastly out weight the additional cost

    • @KendallandGlenn
      @KendallandGlenn  2 года назад

      Hey! Thanks so much for that recommendation. A pop top would be our first pick of course. We know that it’s far greater than a rooftop tent in so many ways, but a lot of the companies that do pop top conversions either don’t do the Land Rover Series models or their wait time is 6-8 month’s minimum. So this set up will have to do for the time being, and will also allow us to save up for the crazy expensive cost of them. But it’s definitely something we want to get down the line 😊

  • @foss5011
    @foss5011 2 года назад

    Love the old troopys. Have you seen the channel of "Overland Travellers"? You might get some helpful ideas from their Troopy build. Good luck with the transformation.

  • @garyp.7501
    @garyp.7501 2 года назад

    Congratulations!
    The channel "SeekAdventure" has a lot of 4x4 recovery tips.
    Hilift jack, DMOS shovel, ARB Snatch strap, a couple of soft shackles, a tree strap. ARB has a nice kit. Winch, snatch block, safety jacks HiLift platform is way better than that cheap plastic one.
    If you can skip the top tent and get a popup roof. You will like it a lot better as then you can stand in the back of your truck. You have no idea how bad it is to hunch all the time.
    Make some boards with rails so that you can sleep down below if you don't get the pop top. Some weather, ie high wind/rain you won't be able to sleep up top.
    Eva Zu Beck has a channel with a Defender she built out. Might want to look at it for ideas.
    Best to you!
